I like your interpretation, I believe he’s talking to God without saying it, that way you can take what you need from the song because not all of the clique is religious. Yup this is the way I have always seen it, their religious allusions are often vague enough that you can easily interpret them to best fit your own personal struggle
I love this! Like he says “we’re Twenty One Pilots and so are you” I love seeing people genuinely fall in love with them, I mean how could you not! Gives me all the feels.
This song is from the album called 'twenty one pilots' (you'll hear it referred to as 'self-titled' by the clique). It's from 2009 before they were signed to a record label and before Josh joined the band. At this time the band was really just a group of friends - Tyler, Chris and Nick - making music together and playing gigs locally. Tyler self recorded and produced it in the basement of his parents house and they self released it. Tyler was really learning his craft at this time. It has a lot of themes around faith as well as the usual mental health themes.
I see this song as Tyler is talking to God, "Father." He's struggling and asking God for help. "I haven't been the best of sons," so "wash me with your water."
I'm all for two reactions a day. Addict with a pen is basically a prayer. "We haven't talked in quite some time. I know I haven't been the best of sons." or "But you specialize in dying, you hear me screaming "father" and I'm lying here just crying, so wash me with your water" suggests that the narrator is turning to God. Tbh my fave songs are from their old “unreleased” album Regional at best, I’d love for you to dig more into their earlier works, because young Tyler wrote beauuuuutiful poetry. Kitchen Sink would be my suggestion for sure. However, full album reaction is honestly a great idea, you can split it into several parts. Anyway looking forward for more as always! Have a great day!
Agreed that Josh is amazing but the drummer for their first record was actually Chris Salih, one of the band's founding members! Josh didn't appear on a recorded album until "Vessel", he joined the band for the release of "Regional at Best" but all the drums on that record were programmed digitally

One of my top tier TOP songs of all time. You def HAVE to do the UG Studio version of this song. Even though we just watched you on this one, we'll watch with you again. That one's so raw and gutteral and it just gives me chills every time. And tears. The imagery in this one is so powerful. I remember you saying on previous videos that you like when they let the music talk. I love that too. So this Self Titled album has a lot of that. Implicit demand for proof is mostly instrumental, isle of flightless birds as well, my favorite is taxi cab and March to the sea, but all the songs are great. I think reacting album by album is a great idea, so when you go and react to Scaled and Icy you won't miss the clues that connects it to previous songs.
I love the idea of starting at the beginning and seeing the growth. Every album is great and I feel like the first 3 may be the best 3 (self-titled, regional at best, vessel) ...but then I feel bad because the last 3 are also and equally as amazing haha.
I will say that the songs that are on regional at best AND vessel (they rerecorded a few when they got signed to FBR) are best to skip and then listen to the re-recorded versions on vessel ...but the non duplicated tracks on RAB are excellent.

This song got me through a really rough time. Tyler has a way of capturing so much in his lyrics. Many of the songs on this self-titled album are dealing with his struggles with mental health and his faith. I would love if you did full album reactions. You can just do one a day. I have seen a lot of TØP reactions you are by far one of my favorites. I like how you get right into the video and I like how you interpret the songs and meanings. We also love when people discover them because they are definitely a little underrated. We just want them to get the same love and respect that other artist get (although we think they are on a whole other level) please continue to do more! A lot of their music, especially their earlier stuff, is heavily influenced by Tyler's religious upbringing. It is usually left fairly vague so anyone can interpret it in their own way. A lot of it deals with doubt ("Doubt" is another great song to check out) and obviously his struggles with depression. To me, this song, and many others, are almost a prayer. Tyler is talking to God and asking for help. He is desperately trying to hold on to his faith/ life (water) as hard as he can, but walking through a sinful world (sand) and struggling with mental illness, makes it seemingly impossible. So I like never make requests but I need to shoot for it. There is this awesome reggae band from Georgia and Ted the lead singer is an amazing songwriter. No one has reacted to them and I really wanna get there music out there more cause they truley deserve it. The band is called Passafire and they just came out with 5 songs this year, they don’t have any music videos but they have sung on sugar shack. I’d say listen to the new stuff like Offer, 16 beat, or Stash and then we can move on to the albums. PLEASE I really want someone to react to their music it’s so good

This is one of my favs from this album. They're self titled album is full of gems. I highly suggest Trapdoor and Fall Away. If you do Fall Away I suggest doing a 2 in 1 video. Listen to the studio version but also watch the live version featuring Dr. Blum from the band Misterwives who plays the trumpet. I was fortunate enough to see them live and see that performed. Such an experience.
