Nebraska!! I was recently handed down a 68 mustang that was won on a $1 raffle in 1968. These videos fuel my desire to get it restored. It's gotten me into classic cars more than I could have imagined. Nice barn find!
@@thewriter2549 It's a Red 68 Mustang Coupe with a 289 2v & 3 speed manual and a radio delete plate. I've been told they raffled off 2-3 cars and this was the cheaper raffle car. My wife's grandpa got the call that he won, left home to go pick it up. They were so excited to get it home they ended up dropping it off the trailer and bent the rear bumper, the dent is still there.
I have no idea why this story would come to my page, being a women who isn’t in to cars, although my husband is an auto painter, neither of us care for it as a hobby. That was so much fun to watch, the history and knowledge of it all. The man who assessed it really knows his stuff! The men who sold it were so nice and I wish you all the luck with your dream car! I hope I get to see it when it’s all done! I do appreciate a great paint job along with all the other work !
Well thank you so much for the comment. The restoration is going along swiftly and I am taking video of the steps with help from the restorer. I hope you will watch that too. I hope to have up part one in 2-3 weeks.
I was all of 16 years old in 1982 when I saw a Shelby Cobra sitting in a barn in Indiana. We were painting the barn and saw something covered with some blankets to protect it from the pigeon shit. As a curious kid, I went in and pulled back the cover......and I fell in love. The owners had parked a disk, plow and planter around it to keep it there. Always wonder what became of it.
That's alright man. That's alright. Congratulations on your dream purchase. Please keep us in the loop on how it's progressing! I, for one, would love a whole new series of videos documenting the restoration. Congrats again, and big thanks to all your buddies for helping it all fall in place. 👍
@@thewriter2549 65 /66 , shelby called them “under-rides” , great design, knock-offs are available, but yours look like the original . They will work/look amazing, along with that 7200rpm 427 side-oiler, that you will find (or it will find you) .
Great find Jerry, congratulations!! You’re on your way now! Boy I wish I knew you well enough to be able to keep up on how the restoration process is going for you. I think that would be amazing to watch. I’m going to pray that you are able to post pics when it’s done or maybe even during the build if you want to. We’d all love to keep up. Either way good luck with everything!!
My dad bought '67 GT350 Fastback, with the 390- 4 on the floor, brand new back in '67. He said it was really too much car for the road back then. He said Alabama State Troopers wouldn't even try. I have ONE PHOTO of that car.
Congratulations! What a find. My son is struggling to finish restoring a1969 GT 500 Shelby that his dad bought and had the car torn down to frame. He got sick with a rare cancer from Agent Orange and died in 2016. My son has been working on it ever since .
CONGRATULATIONS Jerry! Looking forward to any and all updates….great opportunity to document a full restoration from start to finish. Again, congrats on the find of a lifetime👍
Two custom guys who still revere and respected their roots and aren't bent on chop slam shave jacking everything they can get their hands on.... ...uncommon indeed. Respect commands respect
A ghost car coming back to life is awesome. learned alot watching ,,me fav car , being a disabled vet and having to raise my daughter by myself after her mom was Killed by 4 teens , so its been a dream car for me ,,, thx for sharing.
I remember lusting after these cars a a youngster. They are so ultra cool and beautiful, especially the red ones. I can't wait to see it when you have finished the restoration. I am happy you found the car you have always wanted.
@@thewriter2549 Congrats on your awesome barn find, hopefully you document the build, we'd love to see the entire process including specific parts used and how difficult any of them were to come across!!!
So damned happy for you Jerry. This was meant to be for you. I'm so very proud of the men that took the time to help you with the ordeal of figuring it all out. That's what it's all about, genuine friends helping genuine friends. I can hardly wait to see it all done and the little bro getting to finally drive it!! Ha!! Great content as always Jerry. Keep em coming!!
Thanks Dugger, I was very surprised to see so many people happy that I bought this Shelby. We're going to restore it and show the process and I'm thinking about buying something else and restoring it, same deal.
@@thewriter2549 What mattered to me most is that the sellers were content within themselves in selling it to 'you' as it was a bit bittersweet for them to sell it at all.
This was a nice watch.. all genuine people. Not a couple a vultures trying to make a buck off someone else.. all folks were very genuine .wish I had friends like this. Thank you for sharing
I had a 64&1/2 - 65 289 with 2 4 barrels & 4 speed FastBack (Black/White interior) with the round Enameled Cobra Snake in each Front Fender. I owned it From Sept '68 to 1978-9. Sold it to a 15 year old boy who wanted to restore it, For $100. 2 years ago I stopped where I had Delivered the Mustang, but the People didn't live there anymore. The gentleman that now owned the house in Sussex WI. mentioned he had Bought it 7 years ago and when he first looked at the house he remembered seeing an Old Black Mustang in a Lean To next to the Garage. Didn't pay any attention if it was restored or not.
Jeff is a walking encyclopedia of Shelby's! After all these years, people are still finding these hidden jewels! Back in the early 70's, there was a '65 or '66 Shelby sitting in a backyard in Seymour, IN. I don't know whatever happened to it.
Out in the middle of nowhere is where the barns are located! That's why you end up in the back of beyond to get the barn finds! Yay! Thank you for the story I love it!
Congratulations Jerry on the new to you wheels. I know you know of Dennis Collins & he has many parts for all kinds of Shelbys that he might just help you with. Doesn't hurt to ask, and he would probably be willing to help you save another Mustang cause that is what he does on a regular basis. Same day you posted your video Dennis posted a 69 Shelby save. Look him up for hard to find Shelby parts. Good Luck !!
I'm so happy for you, all these years documenting other peoples dreams coming true and it's finally your turn. I also agree with the other commenters who want to see a series following the restoration of your dream car.
At 70 years old, these videos and I mean all of Jerry's videos, always brightens my day.. First car I bought and paid for was a 69 Camaro SS.. I'd sell my soul to the Devil to have that car back.. Thank you
Congrats Jerry! I think that Shelby has been waiting 41 years for you to come get it! That will be one sharp car back in stock colors! I enjoyed the video Buddy👍
Thanks, kind of feels that way and to think it was still there after all those years. I am still stunned so much that when I see the car in Jason's shop I can hardly believe it is mine. I do need a 428 Police Interceptor engine and a set of those dual fours and the oval air cleaner assembly.
Thank you for providing this video. It's very entertaining but it also inspires a younger and newer generation of Americans to be passionate about classic cars.
This is my intent, to transmit the joy of old cars. I urge people to contact me with such cars and history. I pay finder's fees. Email (jerryheasley@gmail.com) or call 806-236-3681.
Jerry, Congrats on your "New" Shelby! 👍 Another Shelby barn find owner too that found his '66 Paxton Hertz car in '76! When completed, "drive it like you stole it"!😀
I love these kinds of restoration videos, since I have owned many of the 60's classic cars when they were brand new with that new car smell. Unlike today, back then they were all very affordable when brand new.
Congratulations on getting the Unicorn!!! Looking forward to following along the journey of getting it back on the streets! Very cool stuff Jerry. It's great to have friends that share an incredible passion for these cars - and even better when they help do things like this!
Yes, and when a friend gives a friend the opportunity to buy a car like this. That is the fact that if I could make the resolution of this story would fascinate to the maximum. Maybe the story doesn't know until something happens at the end to reveal it.
I am from Nebraska and when I was young there were barn finds all across the state and the 60's muscle cars were ticket some had been wrecked, some had been put in storage from family members and some were it was my son's car he was killed in Vietnam and so on but once the the old became collectibles and drove the price up people flocked to Nebraska to scoop up the treasures. Not many left there anymore.
Congrats on your find! Perfect starting point to build the car the way you want and have something you can get out and drive and not have to worry about everything being factory correct, numbers matching, low mileage, etc.
Considering the low mileage and completeness of the car and parts, it would be a shame not to bring it back to stock. It is a Shelby so drive it like ya stole it and then fix it as needed. They were meant to be driven and enjoyed; seem reasonable to me!
Cobra love at its finest Jerry word of advice has long as you are working on the car try to do whatever one thing every 3 or 4 days so the build won't get stalled out one friend of mine is almost done with the Camaro and I sold another friend to Trans Am about 5 years ago and he hasn't done anything with it it's sitting outside in his yard right now stalled out I told my buddy with the Camaro just every few days to one thing and you could sleep good at night great story I have a 93 Cobra I bought brand new with 93 36,000 MI
I love watching Jeff in action! Congratulations! Looks like a fun project. It will be an awesome day when the brothers can experience driving this Shelby!
I want one before I die. When I was in second grade my sister had a boyfriend had a 67 I can still hear and feel the rumble of that beautiful beast omg
As a young man, I owned a 1976 Chevrolet NOVA SS with a small block 400... It was white with red racing stripes and red interior... I miss that car and I regret selling it... I had 3 jobs to buy it and rebuild the engine, transmission and rear end... Lost a couple of girlfriends because I spent more time and money on the car rather than on the ladies...!!!! I love these old cars... My dad bought a Ford Fairlane for $400 in the late 70's , wrecked it and sold it for $400.. that Ford Fairlane was supposed to be my car when I got my driver's license... Unfortunately I never got it... I remember it looked similar to a Mach 1 and that's why I loved that Ford Fairlane...
Congratulations sir. I'm 48 right now and my dream is to own a 63-7 Corvette. I also want a 70 chevelle. Those dreams have been in my head since I was a little kid. I'm happy yours has come true and I hope you keep us updated.
06:41 the middle of nowhere is where those gems are found these days there’s much Ford Motor Co Mustang Shelby GT knowledge up in that loft & the lady that keeps all these boys in-line & well-fed
I was in university in Baltimore in 1967 and rented a Shelby from Hertz and took it out on the Beltway up to 105 mph, got scared and slowed down... but what a thrill. Good memory watching this
Congratulations Jerry if any one deserves this car it's you so happy to see this fine car go to you keep every one updated on the restore it will be the best .thanks Jerry on all your adventures
Thanks 👍 I have to admit this is so fun and I am more motivated to do restoration follow up's seeing a car go together that I own? Owning this car has still not fully sunk in.
Im not a Ford guy but I understand your passion for cars. I love seeing a rare classic in good loving hands I know you are going to do it right . Congratulations and keep us posted on the progress. Thanks for sharing your dream with us.
Wish I could find my 1979 Z-28. It was factory ordered. 350 V-8, 4 speed, Aluminum wheels, Positraction rear end...Cheers to the ones that find those great old cars...
All it took was one person that gave me a chance. I am looking for another car now because once we get this car restored I'm ready to move on to maybe a Chevy
Awesome video footage. Retired mechanic, loved the parts being found upstairs. For me it was similar to heading to the junkyard and finding the year and color car I needed parts from. Like hitting the jackpot. Thanks for the adventure!
I looked for a 67 GT500 for years, it's my favorite Shelby Mustang. I almost grabbed one in El Paso TX from Casa Ford in 1992 after the owner died. It was a 67 W coded conversion FE and it was part of an Un-restored collection that included a 68 GT-350, two Cougar Eliminators and a 55 Belaire and 56 Nomad. In the barn were all the freshly boxed up parts from the Ford PDC in Carrollton TX (where I worked). She wanted 30k for everything, just to get rid of it. Before we (4 Ford employees) could get the funds, someone from Mexico bought the lot. I missed the boat, still have the pics.
I've wanted to do a story on "the ones that got away." Your story sounds like a good one for this. Is this a possibility? You do have photos, so that is good. Can you please call me (806-236-3681) or email (jerryheasley@gmail.com)? I always let people review the stories for their approval. I am listed online as an editor for Motor Trend (over 1,000 articles you can read online, many were originally print articles), I write for Hot Rod and there is also this RU-vid channel.
WOW. Plaza Fiber Glass. That is a shocker, supplying parts to Ford. In the 1970's I worked for Mack Truck Canada. During that time we brought on Plaza Fiberglass as a supplier, to make hoods. My dad had a Chev Vega with rusted out front fenders. I talked to the owners about making a left and right fenders. No Problem. Within a short period of time I was the proud owner of two Plaza Fiberglass fenders, in primer. Brought a can of paint and on the afternoon shift, the fenders were painted. A week later the fenders were on the car. My dad was thrilled.🦊
You sir are a very very wonderful human being. People with values, integrity, and considerate are in short supply these days. For you to even consider, yet you flat out offered to let them drive something that their father drive and something that they've wanted to drive almost their entire life is something that money can't buy and no man can take away.
I segwayed from magazine articles to video. I did the Rare Finds column for 27-28 years in 4 different car monthly car magazines. This seemed to be my niche. I just need more people to call me and give me a chance to do stories on these great finds.
I worked at a Ford dealership outside of Philly in 68 and 69. We had a bunch of 67/68 Shelby's we couldn't sell. They sat on the lot until the summer of 69 and they were wholesaled out to a buyer in Arizona. I remember them loading 13 of them on the transport.
Why is it always the rare and desirable cars that people take all the way apart? More often than not they never get put back together, but the owner won't sell.
Wow wow wow.. Great find team ..Car of my dreams and being from Australia i cant imagine ever actually owning one, let alone seeing one restored to its its full potential can't wait to see the final outcome..I cant wait for future updates..
Yes but as a consolation you have some very rapid Ford V8 touring car replicas and utes to play with. You also have the best football on the planet down there, been a fan for nearly 50 years. Can’t even watch the NFL (No Fun League) anymore. Best wishes from the US.
I’m not a Ford guy but I like my Mopars and there is a guy with a utube channel called uncle Tony’s garage and he seemingly knows what and where everything about 60’s through mid 70 Mopars should and should NOT have and he knows all the secrets places to find all the vin numbers and what body style had for any options and where they should be and so on . This Ford guy is the same way and you’re not going to sneak ANYTHING by him if someone is trying to sell anything from a barm find to a so called rotisserie rebuild. It’s too bad that there are not more honest people out there like these guys that someone could hire to go over and through any muscle cars from that era to tell you if the car is legit or if’s a poorly pieced together Frankenstein car with a nice paint job. This guy really knows his stuff and is a joy to watch him work.
Saw your AWESOME purchase and reminded me of a '67 Shelby I bought and sold in the late eighties. It was a drag car and was sold to a Mexico customer. I kept the original steering wheel, gas cap and Shelby VIN plate which I still have in the attic. ( I also personally owned a '69 GT 500 which I traded in for a '72 cutlass supreme). Good luck with your project !
