I took a trip to Scarborough in North Yorkshire after reading a ridiculous story in a tabloid newspaper which made it out to be much worse than it actually is.

The tabloid press are amongst the very worst traitors to Britain. They claim patriotism, but they actively hate this country and its people. They seem intent on doing Putin favours. No surprise that you always see pro-Russian types spreading Daily Mail articles.

Scarborough is a beautiful town.. yes it may have its problems like any other town and city in this country.. but for me it hold lots of happy memories from my childhood and more recently.. my parent would often drive me and my late sister there for a day out or a weekend break.. Also I love it when my job sends me there as I get to park up at north bay for a break just as the sun is coming up before heading home for the night.. Greetings and thanks from a Darlington man.. ❤

Scarborough was my first ever childhood holiday, I have loved it ever since. The Grand Hotel, my son has stayed in, treated himself to the Penthouse suite for one night. He had a lovely stay, so much architecture, and beautiful rooms. They are working on this beautiful building and improving it when the can. I remember going to Peasholm park as a child with my younger brother, mum and Dad. We were treated to an ice cream which was a cone with a rectangular opening and a rectangular piece of ice cream which was wrapped up in a bit of foil and you had manipulate it out of the foil and into the cone without dropping it. The naval show was brilliant. We had to pay extra I think to watch the show in the late 70”s early 80’s. Nice memories. There was also a guy used to play an organ which was on a platform in the middle of the lake. Thanks very much for today’s vlog mate. Really enjoyed it all.

Scarborough must have one of the most beautiful seaside locations in all of Europe......if it happened to be in Italy you'd never hear the end of how wonderful it is! The problem is our press is all about negativity - whilst others countries are all about promoting their own resorts. Sitting in a deckchair in the Spa Suncourt on a lovely morning whilst listening to the last seaside 'palm court' orchestra in the UK is just perfection! Scarborough has so many wonderful facets and attractions......it's just crying out to be well marketed and receive the good publicity it deserves. Glad you're on the case!

I've lived in Scarborough since 2014 and am still totally in love with the place. It's got a very chilled out relaxed atmosphere and whenever I have heard drunken rowdiness it always seems to be in good spirits, folk just blowing off steam and having a laugh. The south bay water quality badly needs sorting and the business rates are high for shop units making it tricky for independents, so there are a lot of empty shops, but mostly it's a great place to live!

The "great British" foreign owned press have their own agenda to get us angry and bitter about everything and sadly it's working on too many people. I live in Scarborough myself and yes we have our problems like anywhere else but the scenery, architecture cannot be beaten. As for the camper van ban that is also symptomatic of the world the tabloid media are trying to create, jealously, it has absolutely no effect to the detriment of anyone's life, but still people moan. I'm also lucky enough to have had school trips and summer days at Scarborough. The camera shot of the little train was magic. Honestly, as a viewer, we're constantly moving through the scene, and when you steady up the scene, to watch something move through it, we get a nice little contrast. As if that weren't enough, the moving camera scenes are all really steady , and that is helping you get better footage, and it's making all of the video easier to watch. Subscribed

I visit Scarborough 'solo' regularly in the summer (day trips or overnight stays) and there's no way I feel unsafe! Much like your example, I get my trainers and back pack on and sample all that the town and seafront has to offer including pub lunches and a pint or fish and chips outside. I do beach and some of the cliff top walks further out of the centre. And with it being Yorkshire there's always folk who say 'Ow do" and stop and chat for a bit. I can recommend all the North Yorks East Coast resorts for any solo traveller.

When I first visited in 1971, there were outdoor pools for swimming and water chutes at the north and south bays. Also, a marine park on the hillside near the sea life centre. I don't know whether the Mere on the town outskirts is still used for boating, but nice that Peasholm Park continues its naval show. The Stephen Joseph Theatre is renowned for quality shows. It is the base where Sir Alan Ayckbourn produced many of his celebrated 90 plays.

Absolute nonsense from these local councils, if people took more of an interest in their local politics and actually went out and voted, they might actually end up with representatives that align with their values.

I must have read the same article because I remember feeling sad that such a vibrant, interesting place was now basically a no-go-zone. Thank you for showing us the real Scarborough. I'd love to visit!

I love Scarborough, been coming here since I was a child. Its a beautiful place with so much history. I didn't know about Hitler saying he wanted The Grand Hotel as his base if he ever successfully invaded England. It's my favourite hotel to stay in. Thank you for standing up for Scarborough.

First here....The Scum is just bog roll...and we all know it! Scarborough is BEAUTIFUL 😍 Going to eat my tea now...and watch the rest 😊 UPDATE: I honestly cannot BELIEVE how nice Scarborough IS! It looks AMAZING. Something for everyone. I'm going to stick my neck out here, and say that THAT...is better/nicer than ANY "SOUTHERN" resort!..and I've been to them ALL! I will definitely be visiting Scarborough before I die. 😊

Fabulous tour video James. The Grand Hotel prices must be quite expensive now. Nice pint of Guinness. I reckon Whitby is more famous than its neighbor Scarborough. What has happened to the Summer Weather. It feels like Autumn in the mornings.

I am astounded how good it looks and the investment in the Spa and Grand Hotel keeping the true character of a seaside town. But the biggest thing of note: NO LITTER!! I would stop there no problem when I next visit from Canada

What a shame "Scarborough Fair" is copywritten. That would have been a lovely accompaniment to the scenic shots! Bless you James for caring about the obvious injustices that have plagued this lovely old seaside town . I loved the way you juxtaposed the rotten comments with stunning shots of what looks like a really lovely place, you've gotten so good at this and the creativity is noted. You could show some of those massive channels a thing or two! Thanks for another great vid, love to Helen, gfta 🤗 ✌

Thanks James. I've lived in Scarborough since 1949.(I'll let you do the maths) and never tire of it. The view from the Esplanade down over the Spa. A wander around the harbour. Peasholm ( lovely Japanese garden on the top of the Island in the middle of the lake) where we used to go and watch the Naval warfare when I were a young un. Walk along the cliffs above Scalby Mills. It's a great place for all ages. Recently saw Tom Jones at the Open Air Theatre. Not one of his biggest fans until I saw him live that night. Brilliant voice. Saw Jake Bugg at the Spa. Another great night. There's something for everyone here but like every other town, village, City in the world, Scarborough has it's struggles but with the sea on one side and the North Yorkshire Moors on the other you won't be disappointed.

I have lived in Scarborough for 5 years now. Like most towns, realistically, there are good and parts but a lot work goes on behind the scenes to improve Scarborough, so these negative newspaper reviews do a great injustice to all who are doing their best to improve and maintain things. I did see a tent on the grass during the winter but it was empty and I was told that services are aware of the genuine homeless people and we’re taking care of their needs. Thank you for your honest video which I hope will go some way to get people to visit and make the most of these great heritage towns and all they have to offer.

I lived in Scarborough for 13 years, where I served as a police officer in the town and locally in Filey. I moved back to my own home town to retire. Your video bring back lots of good memories. I loved the place but events in my life caused my to leave.

Excellent review of the real Scarborough James. Like you, I went there often as a youngster and again when me and my mates had motorbikes. I'd actually move there tomorrow but the other half doesn't feel the same (she's from darn sarf). I tweeted a link to your video to the Visit Scarborough account too.

Whilst I was reading that newspaper article, I said out loud... that is definitely the Scarborough that I know! I love visiting Scarborough, and it's great that you've made this video to dispel all those false rumours 👍

We have travelled the world over, lived abroad on mainland Europe and the Middle East and still enjoy going to Scarborough on a regular basis. We took our 5 year old granddaughter there 2 weeks ago for an afternoon on the beach and she loved it and is desperate to go back. The beach and promenade area are immaculate.

That was a beltin' vlog James. Just watched it with my missus. It totally blew the lying toerag newspapers out the water. Scarborough is a fantastic place. It's a proper family holiday resort. Well done. I hope the Council appreciate how much you've done to boost tourism. Keep up the great work. Si thi. Alan & Bren

We often have day trips to Scarborough and it is a bustling seaside town. Like many towns it has run down areas but it also has a lot of green areas, the marine drive promenade, parks etc. The Chinese gardens on the island at Peasholm Park is a favourite.

I took the wife for a couple of days holiday earlier this year, to East Yorkshire. We stayed in Pickering, and visited Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Filey, Scarborough, Bridlington, and Beverly. Scarborough was by far the dirtiest, scruffiest, most run-down of them all. We would never go back, when there are so many much cleaner, much nicer, places in the area.
