Hi, we are Bec, Sam, Isabella & Euan. After selling our house in the UK & travelling Europe in a motorhome for 10 months, we have bought a derelict stone cottage in Ireland. We are keen to try and live an off grid life, free from debt whilst bringing the farm back to its former glory. We are doing this on a very tight budget and plan on doing the work ourselves.

Well, you did both comment many moons ago that you wish that door was wider. Now you can get a decent sized show piece wooden door, given especially as it will your "front door" from March. Better to find out the issues with the walls now before the new roof goes on and the pending hard work on updating the concrete ring beam. Good to see happy families on the donkey front, I know Bec's you were really worried how Toby would react but all your hard work to get him settled and medically sound has obviously paid off, and now you have a happy couple that can enjoy their life to the maximum and they can both forget any hardships from the past.

Thanks Joe. I'm trying to source a bargain stable door for it. That will make the pain rebuilding it worthwhile. I hope to have a couple of donkey heads peeking through next summer when all this will be a distant memory! 🍀🤞

Stunning! I wish you could live stream and we could comment live, you have a natural gift for making things Sam. I understand the standing back and wondering if it’s right but it’s so easy for us to see from a distance. Honestly the life you are breathing into this cottage is so emotional to watch. Congratulations Becca, on completing the interior walls! Sam, I am so impressed by your stone masonry skills. Yes, the unstable stonework is frustrating. More work! However, I think it is a blessing in disguise, as you will now have larger doorways either side of the cottage. So potentially a greater amount of natural light coming through the doors (depending on which style of doors & ratio of glass you choose). Btw, I shuddered when you said you'd been working on Friday 13th! Fantastic to see your channel has more than seventy thousand subscribers. Well done, to a hard working & genuinely lovely couple. It may be a set back but to me it was just as well it happened now and not when you put in the window. But knowing you Sam and Bec you both will take it in your stride and that will will be stronger than ever. So Glad Toby and Tilly are getting on with each other, Toby looks so much happier. You are one of the few home builders I have heard on RU-vid that have understood the concept that bad weather comes in Winter! Snow, Frost, Rain, Storms, Clarts oh happy days to replace a roof ...NOT I made a living working in the Snow, Frost, Rain, Storms, Clarts, trying to repair home builders basic mistakes that the sun shines every day of the year. You dear people are among the few that have learnt that frost concrete and clarts dont mix at all well when the nights draw in. Great Vids Good luck gang.

Thanks. The pressure is definitely on, but we have just resigned ourselves to the fact the roof will be off in bad weather and we will have to make the best of it. If we weren't going for the grant, we would potentially have waited, but that's the way it fell with the time it's taken to get the stonework sorted.

Another great production guys. Love how Sam explains what he wants to do and his thinking behind it. You can see how that doorway has been narrowed before with the stone line both sides. I think the door frame was put in and stones cemented behind it. Rebecca could easily talk in a master builders conference. Her confidence in speaking about problems and solving them is credible to her commitment to the job getting done.

Setbacks are inevitable with older buildings, to make the door wider would be the way to go but looking at the stone further in it’s going to mean a similar job as the front door. We all know ye can do it and yere determination is inspiring. Well done 👍

The stone work and pointing is so good. Love the pair of donkeys, he just needed a friend. Watching the dog is funny, he has his eye's on everyone and everything, when all is in place he lay's down and watches to see what is next. He is beautiful and so smart.
