They Made A Super Distortion Filtertron Pickup 

The super distortion would be really good for the baritone Gretsch that a lot of people play metal with too

The regular super distortion is, IMO, one of the greatest humbuckers ever made. So cool to see the legacy of it continuing in new unique ways.

Those Super Distor'trons were the best sounding coil split pickups I've ever heard on a video. The PAF'trons were good. Any one of those pickups costs more than the Donner guitar I just bought.

I have been using Super Distortions for 35 years. To me, it's my go to. Love. Nice sound on the video.

Good on Dimarzio for thinking outside the box. I think it sounds incredible. Definitely the SD in the bridge and PAF neck.

Wow, I love the clarity between the string tones! Even with distortion you hear every string separately on full chords! I LOVE IT!

A filtertron super distortion is the best idea :), a wolf in sheeps clothing, I always do some relicing to all my nickel covered pickups to make them vintage looking while they are actually high output :).

Other than a P90, a Super Distortion and a Filtertron are my favorite pickups. So many choices....

This video was both a joy to watch and listen to. I think it’s one of your best, and I have seen a lot of them. To me what makes it great is 1) what you are playing is beautiful, and 2) it’s clear that you really enjoy playing with these pickups. The combination makes the video shine. Bravo!

I don't know about the rest of the Scooby-Gang here, but I could literally watch a 3 hour live stream of you testing pickup combos as we call them out. The folks at Somnium are genius-nerds. If I had the dough I would PAY you to do the 3 hr. livestream..

Great video Philip, some great sounding pickups and lovely real world playing. The Paf'trons sound wonderfully articulate and just a bit more focused than a full humbucker. The Distor'tron was a a revelation though - awesome cleans and split sounds. The original humbucker was all over classic 70s rock so I just love that sound.

Great playing…love it. You’re killing me, though. Just got my first Gretsch with ‘trons and now you got me thinking about upgrades!!

My first electric guitar was a 1980, left handed Hondo Les Paul “lawsuit” copy. Made at the Sammick factory in Korea, built with laminated plywood and very inexpensive hardware. I never liked the pickups. I found out later, they are single coils, made to look like humbuckers by using a humbucker cover, and filling the void with foam. So i got a super D, and loved it instantly. Those early 80’s supers were the sound of the decade. 45 years later, i bought a 1983 Hondo 737, very close to my old original. Great shape, well cared for, same single coil sound. Now, i love that sound! Actually wrote an instrumental titled “hondo”, on all platforms where music is played and sold. I don’t think I’ll change the pickup out this time!

So funny I just started making a guitar around the Dimarzio PAF Trons! And I am with Phil, Dimarzio has so many pickup options and are great pickups!

In all fairness, TV Jones, who makes Gretsch's high end filtertrons, also has the same mounting options in every box, and gain junkies would love the Power'Trons.

The configuration that really intrigues me is the one Phil didn't try, the bridge Paf'tron in the neck with the SD'tron bridge.

It’s funny, the marketing of “Super Distortion” always threw me off the trail. That pickup sounds great! I really enjoyed the clean tone. When you hear it with overdrive, you fully understand why they marketed it that way.

Also, you can buy humbucker pickup rings that are cut to fit Filtertrons.

I was listening while browsing Filter'Tron pickup options on the DiMarzio website and then at the 9:50 mark in the video I had to switch browser tabs to look at the video because I wanted to see the playing- sounds awesome with the percussive technique!

Got a semi-hollow Gretsch G5620T which can already go pretty heavy, there's even metal demos of it online. But these pickups may even be heavier!

super distortions are the first humbuckers i ever used as an upgrade in a guitar. great pickup often overlooked. these sound so different from original sd though

I've never been a huge fan of the Super Distortion (I mean, it's good but not my personal favorite), but I like the idea of a Filtertron-sized PAF!

Dig the sound, just perfect at the 5:45 minute mark when clean. I’m not a fan of distortion though. I’d like to hear the Newtons as well. Fan of low to mid sounds. But I don’t know that much about what will fit what. I’m waiting for a leftie Sire H7V to get built which comes with P-90’s and the pups you have gear are what I want my H7V to sound like. Will these fit where P90’s used to fit? I’m also having a Sire T7FM built that they say are Sire’s humbucker version. Maybe the Paftron would fit there. I’ll keep rewinding this video. When the midrange kicks in, it’s sounds awesome. So you started without the Distort tron at bridge position and the Paftron on back at 5:45 and then installed the second Paftron later on? That was a good sounds as well but I’m like you, I couldn’t believe the sound at 5:45. Dis and paf sound great together if I have it correct.

In my little opinion, the coil splits are the best pickups ever on your channel. Your playing is also the best ever, too.

I did the opposite with my super distortion,i put a filtertron magnet in it. Big alnico 5 over the ceramic magnet. Its much sweeter sounding.

I’m looking for humbucker pickups to replace some P90. Meaning I have P90 and do not want P90 anymore, but the P90 are larger than. Humbuckers
