Since the start of the conflict in Ukraine, hundreds of Nepalese men - many with no military experience - have been enlisted by Russian recruiters. President Vladimir Putin has publicly promised citizenship and a high salary to those who sign up to fight for Russia. This has led to a massive recruitment campaign, deemed illegal by the Nepalese government. So far, at least 33 Nepalese soldiers have lost their lives on the front line, but the true number could be significantly higher. They did sign up. No one force them. Surely, they know they are going to the warfront. They probably didn't realize how brutal it was. Poverty is the main reason. Can't blame them when they have families uo look after.

I'll tell you. He knew where he was going and what he would be paid for. Faced with the horrible reality of having to actually fight and not sit in a hotel in the rear, he chickened out. The same stories with mercenaries are happening on the Ukrainian side. That's it.

While serving with the British military, the Gurkhas were respected and admired. Now that a number have joined the Russians, they are looked down upon.

may be there are more than 15000 nepalese in Russian Army, they are there due to the BROKERS with the anticipation of MORE MONEY. They are taken to Russia via Dubai, or Delhi or even from Kathmandu. Many brokers are taking them to Russia by charging them about 5000 EURO per person. Govt. is not that much strong to stop the process.

Well, they signed up for it and i'm fairly certain they knew what they were getting into: a war. Same goes for those who signed up for the Ukranian Foreign Legion. So lets not paint it like the Russians were trafficking Nepalese or something. That said, the Russians should ensure that the fallen are compensated in line with whatever agreement signed on.
