Research in social psychology on prejudice and discrimination shows that people tend to treat other groups as "all the same." This is the "outgroup homogeneity bias." In this video, we explore studies testing the outgroup homogeneity effect and the "cross-race effect," including new evidence from neuroscience.

They’re all the same! But us, oh we’re richly nuanced and diverse. 🙄 To some degree the out group homogeneity effect is a result of a lack of relationships with people who are different than you, which blunts your perception of the subtler differences between ‘them’. It’s important to cultivate relationships with a variety of people. Thanks for the great video!

Hi, Mangaka. It's certainly not my expertise, but I do have an online course that may be at least similar to your interest. You can find it here: www.udemy.com/course/become-more-likable-through-the-science-of-attraction/?couponCode=7FDFD3828E02A48CC826

I don't know about cross-race effect. I'm Asian/mixed, raised in 99% 'Caucasian' area, and I did have a harder time, when I was younger, identifying differences in Asian/African than I did the caucasian. I didn't identify as caucasian at all. I think it must be by the area in which one is raised in youth that effects this bias. I wonder if there have been test differentials of a 'Caucasian' that were raised in a predominantly Asian population or other, if they would have a harder time recognizing differences in other caucasians...and so on (though it does tend to be easier because of the hair and eye color variability).
