I'll just chalk it up to Jenova playing mind games and give my brain a break until new years lol

I'm going for a much less big brain theory than that 😄 I think all this timeline mess is connected to the ending of the original, when Meteor hit and White Materia + Lifestream tried to stop it. My theory is connected to Sephiroth's original plan, to cause such extreme damage to the planet that it would be forced to concentrate a large amount of lifestream to heal, and he would be in the middle of that to absorb it all. Of course he failed and died to Cloud. But when you die in FF7 you return to the Planet as part of the lifestream, the same lifestream that was called upon to stop Meteor, so in a way he was exactly where he wanted to be. Same goes for Aerith, she died, returned to the Planet, but somehow still managed to activate White Materia. I believe the future mentioned by Aerith they need to "change, make it right" is the ending of OG FF7, when Sephiroth was about to succeed. So, what if Aerith is the one responsible for this second chance (aka "Remake") to not allow Sephiroth to win? It would explain why they both seem to know more than they should, and why the Arbiters seem to be working with him against her, because (up to this point) they wanted the same thing, for the story to not change. I believe this time Sephiroth will not kill Aerith, he doesn't want her in his way like "the last time". "Seven seconds till the end, time enough for you perhaps, but what will you do with it", in Aerith's death scene from the original, exactly 7 seconds pass from the moment Sephiroth appears to the moment he stabs Aerith. He is warning him, preparing him to act. (I'm not saying that she won't die eventually, one way or the other I'm afraid she has to because it's a vital turning point for the story). For these reasons I believe this game is a Remake only in the name, it's a sequel.

7 seconds is exactly the amount of time that passes in OG ff7 from when sephiroth appears to when he falls and kills aerith

I've have a similar theory that I've been working on and it's to do with the 4 and 5 stars on Stamps hat or helmet. Gnostics regard the numbers 4 and 5 as the earthly (4) and spiritual (5) realm. The number 4 is associated with earth and is even reflected throughout the FF series in the 4 crystals. FFVII has been using this symbolism too. Most notably the 4 pillars (of the earth) on Omega Weapon. There's the 4 huge materia (crystals). The number 4 also represents the earth in the book of Revelation. Most notably, the new earth remade as one with heaven. (Our world will become a part of it. Someday). The number 4 also has ALOT of ties to Sephiroth and Jenova listed below. Sephiroth has four: -feathers on his belt buckle -whispers shown in the fire in his key art. -robed Sephiroth copies in Remake and Intergrade. Jenova has four: -wards in The Drum -forms in OG (birth, life, death, synthesis. That said Sephiroth bearing the burdens of the dying universe implies that he bears the burden of the material realm. The order that comes from primordia chaos. The nascent universe. The Edge of Creation was an Alpha/Omega reference. This is also reflected in LOVELESS with the 4th and 5th acts. The 5th act that Genesis writes using lifestream (spiritual realm). Getting back to Stamp. Hound Stamp (5 stars) seems to be identified as Angeal (A Hound). Which again makes sense as it's the spiritual realm. That said, I have been trying to identify Terrier Stamp and I have found signs that suggest that it could be Sephiroth or Genesis. The Genesis hints I come across are more subtle and esoteric wheras the hints indicating Sephiroth are more overt. FWIW, Nomura designed Stamp. What this boils down to is the white feathers in the first trailer. Because it's coming with the mako dust from when the whispers turned into lifestream from the explosion. Also, while in the Singularity, you see Whispers being summoned from Sephiroth's black wing to conjure a meteor. So, seeing them turned into lifestream makes me wonder if the white feather used to be black. This is also when we see that weird double-decker Midgar. Which make me think Sephiroth is using the whispers to construct an illusory projection over planet. Because there's something strange that very few have missed about this Midgar shown in the trailer. It says the disaster struck sectors 1 and 2. But the party entered the singularity from sector 5. I wonder if this has anything to do with the helipad door moving from east (ch9) to west (ch17). If you made it this far, I'll say my theory is not complete. I love each time this channel hits this point of intense theorising. I first subscribed when the 15 theory crafting was going on and i love that the remake has allowed us to return to this point of theorising, even over a game we have all already played! :D

I know this is a super quick comment you made in the video but I really love the idea of Lucrecia being the one to stop Sephiroth. The only thing that makes me not so sure that's possible is that it kind of seems like Sephiroth has long been beyond his "mommy issues" but who knows

My intuition was from the first instant that the death of the party will be shown to Cloud continually by Sephiroth to make him lose hope. It's so similar to the VR glitch.

I think I agree with you on the party being in a "coma" like Jessie's dad. I don't know why I didn't think about it but it makes sense, their bodies are in a coma state but their spirit are somewhere else. Likewise, I guess it's possible that Zack isn't alive but also stuck between the living plane and the afterlife, in which case they might be in the same "timeline" afterall and "return" to their respective bodies at some point. Cloud is the only issue for me because Cloud isn't there with the other bodies. I know you touched on this a bit where Cloud's body would go to the reunion instead. But then it can't be that the party is with the same Cloud in Rebirth. Or it can't be the same plane / timeline. I don't even know if I'm making sense at this point. 😂 But in my head there's a block there: if the party's spirits are on a journey and if Cloud isn't with them, then that journey can't be Rebirth because in rebirth they're all obviously together. Was Yuffie also exposed to that tornado? Idk I haven't really thought too much about it and I don't want to because my head hurts already. 😂

This feels familiar to what was going on in FF8 and 13-2 (More-so with the 13 series). In 8, Ultimecia was using Time Compression, inserting her will in individuals and manipulating time. The 13 series was the result of time paradoxes that resulted in the end of the world, or what the falcie would vision as ragnorak. So i think square is trying again with a similar "time" theme. Also, to throw this theory out in the open, Cloud could still be in hojo's lab for all we know and he is still being experimented on.

I just had a thought. What if when Sephiroth made that portal at the end he was making the Terrier timeline but if Aerith didn’t alter or fix it the party would have went through and died. Like Aerith made it so they could safely enter it. If she didn’t do that then their bodies wouldn’t have been able to come through. Essentially, the main timeline party would have came through the portal and just been dead. But because Aerith did the thing she made it so they could enter safely. Idk if that makes sense but it does in my head. Lol😂

If Zack is still in the lifestream then why would they show him surviving the Shinra ambush at the same time that the party changed destiny? That was the event that sent Zack into the lifestream

Convinced the device used in FF7R are the four spiritual concentric circles of the Kaballah and NOT timelines. Yes it affects time. But fundamentally there is nothing making this Remake conform to any type of 'time' rules. Aerith's death will break another 'shell' and the crew will return to these bodies. I didn't state it enough in this vid, but Barrett affirming they would return before entering destiny's portal was cinematically staged enough to suggest this. The falling sparkles of divine light, the coma spaces and the spirit bodies, even more so. Damn my brain is supercharged with so much more theory juice to flow out, this was just the start lmao. But before that... FF16 demo here I come!! 🥳🎉

Soo, my first introduction of Aerith was Kingdom Hearts. I see now that she's a G, She GOADED in her game. She keeping timelines together, by HERSELF

I’ve enjoyed the theory crafting. But I take the most simple approach. All of this “sequel” “timeline” mojo is just a means to recreate 7. A 1 to 1 remake would sell based on nostalgia…but thats it’s. It’s a mistreatment of the game and fans. ZERO real raw emotions to see THAT death scene in HD with a new OST…cool but more like awe wow what a scene! If they approach the design like a “sequel” “timeline” then they have the freedom to recreate 7 and recreate the real raw emotions based on OG. I mean think about it. We had OG and then the compilation. But did they truly jive? I don’t think so. I think if this is an approach to recreate 7 in a meaningful and soulfully impactful way then it needs to be done in a way where the entire 7 universe actually makes 7…if that makes sense. So idk if it’s timelines, sequels, universes etc. I just think in whatever narrative way SE takes, its making 7 in a way where what’s already been made well, made it. Thus anything goes. Also we all have new fresh and raw emotions. If that makes sense.

When the crew went through the singularity. They entered this timeline. In this time line Barrett, Areith, Tifa and Red are dead (when we entered the singularity it created the tornado that killed them). The Cloud you see saying reunion is the this timeline Cloud (not the Cloud we are playing, there are two Clouds in the same timeline). Since Zack is alive in this timeline. Cloud never gets out of his funk and never takes on Zack persona. The timeline we came from doesn’t exist anymore. We destroyed it when we defeated the harbinger. If you watch the Japanese version of the trailer. Sephiroth is clearly talking about Tifa. I think Sephiroth knows Tifa is the one who puts together the true Cloud (the one that can beat him) and he is playing mind games with him to turn him against Tifa. Also, since Areith is dead in this timeline already. The one that is with the crew can survive now. Since the Areith from this timeline can assist holy from within the lifestream. Just my two cents.

What is crazier is that in the original, Tifa explains it was 7 years since nibelheim, not 5 years as Cloud stated. Tifa telling Arieth that cloud wasn't in Nebelhiem 5 years ago is very odd.

I don’t get why people get mad about the theories (like why watch a theory video if you don’t like theories?) so I hope you don’t get disheartened by people saying you’re going too far off the deep end with this. I've been trying to get a perspective on how exactly it's not a split timeline. I don't wanna get too wrapped up in what appears to be obvious so far nobody's clarifying anything. It's always "the Lifestream works in weird ways" or something to that effect but I need it broken down in plain English

Interesting theory, Pez. There are many avenues where the Rebirth story can be taken. For now, I'm going to reserve my thoughts until the game comes out.

Maybe it's just me, but I try to use existing lore to explain these "mysteries" and I keep getting the result that this is the same story just executed differently. The number 1 problem every theory has at this point is thinking Sephiroth (and his consciousness) is doing ANYTHING. Remake showed up that Jenova's visions are really based off of a person's memories. Remember when Cloud saw the clone at the secret spot with the kids and it appeared as Sephiroth but Aerith saw nothing but a sick guy? She even told Cloud to get it together. So we can can go 2 ways with this. Either everything we witness is from Cloud's POV or they are allowing visions to be projected on to us the players. The true meta experience. What has happened has always happened and will happen. Hopium vs copium. Another damn Ouroboros. Hope for new, cope cuz its not. Sephiroth was never in control of anything. It's always been Jenova. And when you recontexualize the "sequel" theory with Jenova instead of Sephiroth shit gets bonkers real quick. Perhaps all of Rebirth is just a vision and we're in a coma thus is why we reset every game? Or maybe it's just the same story more cleverly told? I think I already know the answer.

No timelines. It's just Lifestream. Also, when thinking in timelines, you're forced to think objectively but have to explain nature behaving subjectively. Why keep *just* Zack alive and kill *specifically* Aerith, Barrett, Red XIII, Tifa? When thinking in terms of Lifestream and subjectivity from Cloud's perspective and building an unreliable narrator, nature behaving *seemingly* *subjectively* is a far more fitting explanation. If you deny this to be a possible solution you're denying both Cloud's depiction of the Nibelheim incident AND Tifa experiencing Cloud's mind in the Lifestream. Both depictions/sequences exist in the original 97' narrative. The solution is likely far more simple than people are speculating.

You may have missed it, but after entering the portal, the tornado does not destroy Midgar. It is copying it. If you look at the video immediately after Barrett says, “That ain’t right”, you will see that it is not destroying but is instead copying and pulling up everything INCLUDING the party. Cloud looks down and sees a copy of Midgar - not a destroyed version. The party destroys Destiny while it is trying to copy and remake Midgar.

I'm telling you, you need to play or read up on Xenogears. It explains so much about Kabbalah and the psychology they study and use in his game as well as original 7.

Theory: OG Hojo discovered time travel and sent either a sephiroth clone or a hojo clone to screw things with the timeline

I think it was really smart to named it "Remake" because they let us think it was the remake of the OG game, but instead, it's a remake of the story, bc this is a sequel.

So heres a thought on the "bodies" Shinra were watching the whole time avalanche was in the HQ Could easily be a way for shinra to point blame and say its now safe for the citizens

I think after they beat the whisper god thing they opened a new time line where it is no longer pre determined, which is why it's the unknown journey and with this Zack lives creating a new time line and everything that happens before they no longer know the gang so they could be dead in zacks time and in the gangs time no one might recognise them, I hope that makes sense

I'm so glad folks are catching onto the Sector 0/Deepground possibility. Even if that isn't necessarily the method, there's no way Deepground isn't coming back in some significant way. So my question is-- how do you explain the Marlene/Barret scene where she senses Barret's presence? If Marlene can sense Barret on a Cetra level where she can have some form of communication with the planet, does this not evoke the notion that Barret's spirit is in the Lifestream at this point?

No one seems to address that in the news feed, Barretts tattoo is missing. Is this a error or does it have a deeper meaning and hinting?

No matter how I spin it, it always boils down to a time paradox. Past, present and future have mixed together. What would a future Sephiroth gain from changing the past? If he's alive in the future, that would mean he's had success in the past. The group should therefore no longer exist. How does Aerith know of her fate in the future? From the stream of life from the past? That would mean that all three timelines, past, present and future are superimposed. The question arises as to who or what is causing this time compression. Sephiroth would be too weak at this point, let alone capable of it. Time has the property of moving through dimensions and is omnipresent. The Final Fantasy universe is separated across dimensions. But connected as a whole. The only character that has the power to move all timelines together is Ultimecia. Let's not forget that Ultimecia initiates the time compression towards the end. In the FF7 dimension, as time moves through the dimensions, all three timelines distort into each other. A devastating time paradox emerges. It's a wild theory. But it connects the Final Fantasy universe.

Let's face the facts: Sephiroth is a good guy and Aerith is an impostor. 👽 The only thing I personally don't want to see is them trying to connect FF7 with FFX for fan service reasons. Even though it would be cool in a way it would also be pretty cheesy and cringe. I'm open to any other ideas but that one is too much. 😂

I'm convinced the OG game didn't happen at all. It was a possible route fate could have gone in and Aerith being an ancient saw this route in a vision. That's why she knows what "happens" and stays quiet about it because she doesn't want it to happen. The whispers touching her making her lose part of herself is making that first route happen

If Loz, Yuzu, and Kadaj are manifestations of Sephiroth, is it not possible that Remake Cloud could be one of them as well? The first time we see them in AC is by Zack's memorial, and they do call Cloud brother movie, as well. Remake Cloud is also not abiding by the OG's timeline and seems to be a different person than who Tifa expected him to be. He arrives an entire month earlier and instead of being in a mako coma, he's instead seeing premonitions. Sephiroth's intentions haven't changed: he still wants that black materia to gain all the knowledge and travel the cosmos. Like in OG, he wants to summon Meteor via the black materia but hasn't been able to do so, probably he doesn't have a keystone to enter the Temple. This could play out into a scene where Aerith gets a bad feeling about what the party is doing and is helpless to stop Cloud from giving Sephiroth what he wants. It could be something as simple as forcing Cloud to continue doing the locks in the Temple until he's no more.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually - from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff.

My biggest fear is when Zack and the main group meet, because i can't imagine the writing ability to make that anything but cringe worthy

I noticed in the Trailer there seems to be a Cloud that looks like the Mako experiment people. One who doesn't have the Memory reconstruction of JENOVA to become SOLIDER (Zack) Cloud. Practically mindless. Further, if Sephiroth is Time Transcended, he could go back and actually kill Tifa, and replace her with a JENOVA. JENOVA's copy perfected. This would actually give Cloud Despair, because then Tifa's death is Truth. And that will manipulate Cloud into being a vessel of Sephiroth. Cannot defeat Sephorith when you are him.

Love ya Pez, and I typically enjoy your theories, but this one is just WAAAAAY too complicated and only an extremely small fraction of people familiar with this particular spiritual belief would understand it. They already struggle to retain people's attention with Kingdom Hearts and that series isn't even all that confusing if you've played all the games and paid attention. Ain't no way in hell people would be happy with such a convoluted spiritual mumbo jumbo plot like this. People are already butthurt at the thought of time shenanigans alone as it is. So, while it's a cool, yet confusing, theory, I just don't see them alienating 99.9% of the playerbase. Especially when they *NEED* to knock it out of the park with at least one crowd. If they go and piss everyone off with this remake, they can say goodbye to anyone ever trusting them with 6, 8, 9, 10 etc.

*READ THIS NEW FAN THEORY* Spoiler (maybe) “Zack is Sephiroth” More specifically, Sephiroth at the end of Remake (and the Beginning) is Zack! That’s it. I’ll leave the deep dive to someone more capable than me. Here’s our clues. Zack lives. Zack and Cloud have a Journey to find Sephiroth and defeat Jenova. They find out they can’t. As long as Jenova Cells exist Sephiroth can re-incarnate. (Kadaj in Advent Children) Maybe even pre-evil Sephiroth seduces them to help. With the help of some time travel. The events of OGFFVII start over. Besides the times when a hooded number turns into Sephiroth, it is Zack that become Sephiroth (beginning of chp2 and end of chp18). He has the cells. And he is leading the OG team to destroy Jenova. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still Sephiroth, but Zack is trying to be the final boss so Cloud and team will win, and maybe Aeris lives. If you read this far…. Think FFX. Jecht and Aaron learned they couldn’t defeat Sin, so Jecht let his life energy become Sin. He was able to lead Tidus to the final Showdown, to defeat Sin for real. Someone with much better research and writing skills should look into this. I’ll check in periodically to defend the theory the best I can.

Pez, that's some awesome theory, and you definitely inspired me to broaden my view on this. But as much as I love a good guy Seph theory as you seem to have advocated for before, I just can't see SE letting go of Sephiroth as the main antagonist and switch him out for Jenova, although admittedly she is the main driver for his descend into madness.

Smokescreen. That's what I think the latest FFVII Rebirth trailer is, a bunch of Smokescreens made using cut up parts of the game scenes. People tend to overthinking where they don't need to, while underthinking where they need more thinking. This one is the case of overthinking, which to be fair I believe it to be what the game devs banking on. So, why I called Rebirth trailer as smokescreen? What do I think of those cutscenes used on the trailer? The way I see it, , the trailer is showing cuts of scenes where Sephiroth is trying to confused Cloud into believing that everything is an illusion or a dream. The same way Sephiroth shows Barret and Tifa dead under coming meteor in Remake, none of them are actually dead. Even the part where Sephiroth says "I killed her, so who is she?", That's simply another attempt by Sephiroth trying to confused Cloud. The game devs basically using the classic "picture without context" meme to fool us. And it's pretty effective with how almost everyone thinks the team is dead 😂

I'm pretty sure this is just fake footage, made by Shinra, in order for them to claim the destruction of the bridge was the fault of Avalanche, but they died in the process, so no need to worry about them anymore.

lets see timelines we know off 1) this one where there getting loaded into the helicopter i imagine is the same universe where zack is carrying cloud 2) the universe were playing in 3) the universe where sephiroth kills tifa 4) the original timeline

*sigh* ... what you're saying makes sense - BUT it's way easier to look at time in the forms of timelines - like rivers flowing, you can't go up stream, only downstream (as a regular person). so when we're talking about beagle timeline, that's one river and the terrier is another, and OG is another. Events that transpire in one river does not affect any other rivers/timelines. My argument/point of contention is - having three rivers is dumb from a story telling perspective. we can't invest equally between them and if there is no intersection then showing anything from any "non-canon" timeline (any timeline other than where our characters and story actually exists) only purpose would be to confuse the audience. Whilst that is what og FF7 does - it deals in unreliable narrator, not in dimensions. let's say we would take the same approach but with the movie the sixth sense - then there would be 2 realities, one where the main character is a ghost and another where they're not. if it turns out that the movie is tricking us by showing scenes from two dimensions then ANY reveal would have almost no impact. what makes the twist impactful is 1. the stakes and consequences are real within the framework and 2. the twist recontextualises every scene before it - which can't be done if parallel dimensions are being shown as if they are the same amount of canon, unless both world collide and events from both would become important/impactful.

Is the Cloud in remake a Cloud that is further along in his journey, he seems as you mention more put together. Tifa says he was gone for five years but did something different happen perhaps than og 7?

Simple solution...... At the end of the freeway when they entered the portal they never left at all. Instead the entire incident was in a joint mind f$%k. There bodies stayed unconscious on the freeway. The power used to accomplish this caused the tornado disaster. So the aftermath the unconscious party members are being carried off.

Seph has managed to manipulate the fabrics of the lifestream and blurr the line between reality and the afterlife. Zack and the church peoples, I always thought of that as lost souls, in a kind of like a Purgatory within thw lifestream.

Tifa is and has always been a jenova tentacle. She is jenova L.O.V.E obviously. This is how they survive falling into the lifestream or rarher why cloud does. And in the end the most iconic scene of all, the restoration of clouds "true" memories is going to turn out to be fake ;)

Until you can properly explain why two buster swords would be at the exact same place, to me, Zack is never going to be part of the party, no matter how much the story changes. I’m sure SE wants to keep Cloud and Zack separate and with their own separate stories. You can see kalm flashback, neibelheim incident, clearly if this is happening, it’s safe to say Zack is still dead where the party is currently at. I’m sure the developers want to maintain consistency in the how they portray their characters. If zack was alive where current party members are at, no kalm flashback necessary, no lifestream sequence with Tifa, Zack could do the job and validate Clouds existence at neibelheim 5 years ago, no Cloud thinking he’s a SOLDIER. Inserting Zack into the current party “timeline”, wouldn’t mean anything to the new ff7 remake fan base. They will have no backstory of him, and his purpose in the game. At most I see them is expanding Zacks story beyond his last stance, he is currently missing, since Cloud currently holds the buster sword.
