Thank you for having the same reaction I did to "spirals in nature". I got it based on the other 3 words in the category, but was annoyed because I wouldn't associate concentric rings in the center of a sunflower with a spiral while the other 3 have obvious spiral patterns to them to make that association. Some "Jigglypuff as seen from above" energy right there from NYT.

Sunflower seeds don't form concentric rings. They literally do form a Fibonacci Spiral - the same spiral that snail shell does. You could use a sunflower to calculate the golden ratio to a pretty good approximation.

@syluar You know what, looking at the pattern itself and not the coloration, I see it now. I guess I've never looked that closely at a sunflower before, but it definitely does have a spiral pattern. My mental image of a sunflower was going by the color where the center is darker, then the outermost seeds/florets/stamen or whatever they are are lighter/orange-ish, then the petals are yellow which is a more concentric ring pattern, but I see from looking at the seeds up close what you mean. Thanks for clearing that up for me.
