Duet Justus very informative video, thanks so much for sharing... alsocan you provide your You Tube link as it was not included in the video description...thanks
curious why you think you can't tow.....maybe because the car is an automatic and you don't want to drag a dolly? the 460 has plenty of torque is plenty durable to tow your honda. the auto trans behind the 460 is a weak point but you will want to have that trans redone at some point soon anyhow.
Just wanted to say, Thank You! for showing your Berkey; ... so many nomads seem to think they need to only get/use the larger units so yours is the smallest I've seen someone using successfully on the road.
We met the mother in law at grocery store in Columbia MO, she was very proud of her son and daughter in law. Simply because I was refilling our water bottle. Great video.
I love your rv. I want one like that, I just need to find one and hopefully my husband will be willing to fix it up. We are retired and I think a project like that would be good for us.
In the early 80s I too used an electric carving knife to cut foam rubber for some projects. It worked great. It’s fun that 35+ years later someone else came on the same idea.
My electronic pressure cooker which you call an instant cooker caused a lot of mold after a while. Mold can make you very very ill once it has built up and condensation is in your windows and walls. Keep your windows open so that the steam can escape and clean out your window sills after every use and wipe your walls from any condensation. It will build up for sure. I have now changed to a crock pot. A slow cooker is next on my list. The electronic pressure cooker is gone. And I loved it. I am so sick from toxic mold it isn't even funny. If you start losing energy or get rashes on your head or body you will know you have it.
For extra counter space why don't you cover one of the sinks with like a chopping board?😁😁😁 I wish while he was talking the camera would've been showing what he was talking about ALOT Better. I couldn't see anything except him and with all due respect we want to see the RV LOL 😂
I think that space above the cab is really wasted! They even said it's "just for esthetics" but I thought, who can afford using a big good space in a tiny home for decorative purposes? There are plenty ways to add decorative touches...
I don't understand why, with all that nice large solar capacity, you would ever want to use propane? They made a point of saying how they never even come close to using all stored battery energy or the solar panel capacity. & the only thing that would have to run continuously would be the fridge & any heat or AC. Depending on the season. Small ceramic space heaters don't take many watts & are very safe to use. They did not mention heat or AC but maybe I missed it. They talked about how they do things when they are "off grid" but in my opinion, one is never truly off grid unless I dependent & sustainable in power & water sourcing. Water can be fairly easily obtained in nature, & if you have a water filtering capability, no need to buy those large water jugs. Not sure why they had them since they did have the "Birkie" water filter, waste of money to buy bottled water & then have to filter it? Since they had such a big fresh water tank that should suffice for drinking, bathing & dishes/cooking. So again just my opinion, but I would ditch the propane & get an electric stove & frig. I didn't hear what kind of water heater they used either but the on demand hot water units take up very little space & aren't too expensive. I guess I should watch it again but frankly found there was a lot of extraneous talking & most of it at a very rapid rate, making it a little difficult to follow easily! Thanks for listening & letting me express my views.
Debbie Polachek great idea and they did come out really nice. I thought they were granite. So yes adding the clear coat epoxy would make them last so long!!!
With my luck, the scratches in the 20 year old white Formica countertops in the RV I just purchased, would come out magnified! I'd better just replace them. ;)
I just bought a 1985 Ford Econoline E350 with a 460 engine. Thank you for posting such a thorough 'How To' Video of all you did and learned. I'm taking lots of notes. :-)
Great build. Where do you keep those plants when driving? I would put holes in the tops the size of the pots and set them down in the boxes, maybe 3/4 ways down. I want plants, looking for ways to secure them.
I really love what you've done with this! You have made some smart changes for sure! If you can find a piece large enough, I would definitely find something to cover the sink to make use of that space as prep area for food. I know we aren't supposed to use wood as a cutting block but you could cover with wood and then put a plastic cutting board on top for chopping? Just a thought. You got lucky with the 4 burner stove! I hope it all lasts for many years!
Thanks for all the great details and tips! I loved that you broke down the Berky's price comparison and mentioned an affordable method for buying and cutting the foam mattress! You rock
We live on a boat and the best thing I can recommend for your countertop and table top is watching some epoxy videos. Mind blow and we don't have to worry about chipping and lifting. It's the best for any RV and boat surfaces. Hope that helps.
@@territimmerman140 @diydalia just did a video last week on how she made hers it came out beautiful. I don't know what was going on with her torch though. Lol! But overall she did a great job the design was really pretty. Close to how mine came out. Just remember to heat the air bubbles
One of the best explanations of a remodel, tour, and show and tell I've seen - and I watch a number of channels, some of them quite good. This is a stand out!
Had a front tire blowout on a similar class C. Unbeknownst to me the previous owner before the guy I bought from had installed all retread tires. I got really lucky as it happened in an area that had a shoulder on a short bridge, road had no shoulder other than that.
I'm a young person thinking of getting into the RV lifestyle and it's pretty encouraging when I watch these two talk about theirs. They seem very happy
Many Of us have went to this lifestyle. I'm afraid your generation may be force into this if we become a socialist nation. Many seniors are living in Tiny homes with Bed , Bath n Kitchenette on main fl as we can park these in 55+ RV parks n when we die there is less to deal with physically n Material wise. Les crap to deal with . Just clean em out n ssell em n move on. Reality
Very cute...you did a wonderful job!!! Such a unique idea for a “tiny home”. It’s so nice to see all the ways young people are coming up with to live their lives the way they want to! You do not want to be a slave to a house.
nancy oden Yes, I will never forget their video on 'Harvey Dent' RV Home. It shows pure independence, strength & conviction of character, the REAL American spirit and true ingenuity! They need to start teaching others how to do likewise! I will be 1st in line with my nieces 3 boys!
You are so right to say "slave to a house". I'm over 50, and even if I won the lottery, I wouldn't but a house. To me what these smart, beautiful, young people are doing is the true GIFT of life...They are young and own there home, living a life that allows them to see this Beautiful and Amazing country....
Brown Bunny well said..I totally agree...I’m glad to see this trend..if a person truly wants the traditional path...but I love to see the ingenuity of so many people...to create and design a more adventurous life and follow it ..I so admire that spirit...the road less travelled..
Y'all, I have been watching people on wheels for over 6 years. I have devoured these videos, I am not exaggerating in the least saying, that this is the nicest rig I have seen! You have made my heart yearn once again for a class c! There are two things stopping me, the skills that I would need to do things that need to be done and of course the money 😂 I had an awesome camper van that I bought from an older couple It was a 1989 Chevy Chinook the only thing I had to repair in two and a half years was my muffler! I don't think selling him was that wise! I am 67 year old single, female. So things are not as easy anymore but I am going to go back to living on wheels in my Honda Odyssey until I can save up for a bigger rig. I know this is a long comment but I do have to say you guys you are the neatest young couple! I was mesmerized by your video and now I have got to get out of my bed and get moving 🤣💜🙏🤗
I wish we hadn't sold our Winnebago. I spent my summers as a teen with my parents traveling around the country in our Winnebago, and we used to live the unit. I slept in the bunk over the drivers area, and my parents had the dual beds in the back. We had our cat pan in the shower. LOL We once had five cats and two dogs with us.
Linda Taylor I've thought the same thing.....my parents had an 18-foot travel trailer and I slept in the bunk over the their bed. We used to travel the U.S. in summers, too, with our little terrier. Great memories. 💞
We are traveling in our small Clasd C Thor Freedom Elite with our 2 cats. The shower floor was perfect for their litter box. We also took the bathroom door off and replaced it with a cloth shower curtain to math our new decor. I'm slowly painting walls and cabinets to update our 2016 model.
Love the idea for using the memory foam mattress and turkey knife!! I need a new cushion for my deck and I have been totally at a loss, because it is an odd size! Thanks!!!
That was really helpful ! You both did a great job showing us around your rig, sharing insights from your experiences, providing lots of good tips & useful info. This is a good one to share / send to anyone contemplating buying an older RV to save money. If you've got help or can manage the renovations & rebuilding one that's got some rot & aged lines & valves - anything that is made of materials that degrade with age - be bold. It can be done. If you've got the money - get one that's in refurbished or recent vintage, but the best advice you gave - get it inspected...maybe 2 inspections are worth it. Will check out your other vids when I have more time, but am now subscribed, so that's a sure thing.
That was the nicest transformation of an older RV that I have seen yet! You guys did a beautiful job! It should be home or a lot of years to come! Thanks for sharing!
As I pay $1000+ a month plus electricity for not much more floor space, I must take my hat off to you and your very efficient way of living. I love it! And if I weren’t approaching 70, I would be doing the same thing. I actually owned a similar RV that we redid for my insurance adjuster husband’s rolling office. He did the aftermath of some bad storms, like hurricanes and tornadoes and needed the functionality of a self-contained RV. But I never thought about living in it. He passed away 10 yrs ago and I don’t have the carpenter skills, or strength, any longer to tackle this by myself. You two did a fantastic job. I wish you many years of enjoying your home while you put money IN the bank instead of a mortgage.
I am also approaching 70 and making many notes on RV/Van living. I've reached my limit with my landlord. Almost to the point of talking myself into living in my car rather than waiting for the "new rules" "new expenses" that are imposed on me from month to month. I tell myself; Do not let the number (age) stop you in places where you will just be unhappy, at less TRY to do it, after all...my dignity is still worth 'something'. But couples like this are so inspiring, thank God I am still teachable (LOL) I am going to try this if you really want to you can do it! Fear Not. God Bless.
@@jeanreed8687 This is so true, as long as she has the strength to drive. Being mobile and having a safe place to park can be an issue. However, there are the parks that sell passes for so cheap then you only have to pay something like $10 and I don't remember if that's nightly or weekly, but it's so much cheaper than rent and electric and gas, water, trash etc. TAXES if you're a property owner. We plan to retire this way. Hopefully sooner than later. I wish you all the wonderful things this world has to offer and I think you will have a blast with this lifestyle. Good for you!!!!
There's one thing that I've found frustrating in all your videos: when they're pointing some feature or detail out and explaining how they built it, we can't see what they're talking about. I find myself leaning forward trying to see what they're talking about, lol. I guess you don't want to fiddle with extra edits, but if you could just move in closer and show the detail or, in this case, the counter it would be much appreciated.
Dreaming... Is that all you can say about this video? I thought it was great in every way. Try a glass of wine and chill out my dear, and then watch it again. It will look different to you. :)
Your home is beautiful. The interior of Harvey is bright and cheerful as well as relaxed and restful. Appreciate your honesty about your experiences as RV newbies. Thanks for sharing.
I love that you were able to use your own bed. I spent a lot of money on my bed and it makes a huge difference in my health. So any low impact responsive living would have to include that investment.👍🙂
Awesome guys, good job on explaining and going through so much, your both good on camera and speak clearly so that helped and I dig the fact you highlighted getting a mechanic (if your not familiar with engines) because so many people fall into the trap of buying at face value, but kudos to you both!
Wow! You guys did a great job. I am considering doing something similar and even saw the same RV for sale on Craigslist for a great price. I like the way it's laid out, but am super concerned about buying such an old vehicle. I don't know yet, maybe a camper would be best for me instead.
You two are Amazing! You did a great job, it is very well thought out and it looks soo nice. Such a cute couple! I would totally love something like this.
Looks great. If you ever have that window up top leak again check the running lights before taking the window out. Also goes for the back window. It took us a while to figure the window problems. Once we did all the front and back running lights we had no more leaks.
Love your RV. You both did an amazing job. I really love it. I'm sure its made so much better than the new ones and probably easier to repair. Thanks again.
Great presentation, love all the details especially all the boon docking ideas. There is good and bad about old RV's. The good is as was noted the older materials are better quality and thus last a really long time, which is why a remodel of older units is ideal. However, you need to find a unit that has been well maintained. Like houses they must be cared for to spot leaks, etc. so when shopping for an old RV find one that has been treated lovingly.....they are out there.
Noah Vella that’s what I was thinking maybe they have by now. What a precious couple!!! ❤️ and I’m sure she would love that extra preparation space. But they also seem to have their stuff together!!! Love it and so pretty inside!!!
Great minds think alike. First thing I thought. I put my big cutting board across my sink and I live in a standard house with virtually no counter space.
Eleivana777 Yes I’ve lived like that and absolutely the best thing is create that extra counter space!!! So many things would work!!! And you go girl!!! 😁👍
I live in a trailer and that's what I do. And it didn't take me more than a week before I thought that up lol there is a lot more optimizations they can do
Did anyone tell you that you both are remarkably smart. The interior is as good as new even after two years and the 6.2 earthquakes everyday. What an amazing lifestyle and an equally amazing attitude of living. Cheers!
For crying out loud! That's his personality (you want to change that too?), young man excited of what he has accomplished with his woman. Irene, you might be an old fort and love to criticize. They make a nice couple after all...
It's the first thing that struck me about the video. I was really interested in her reason for the name but he took over the conversation and never gave her a chance, it became more and more frustrating as it went on, as if her input wasn't valid. If my man did that world war 3 would kick off!!!
You guys have a Lovely home it shows the hard work you both have put in it .... If you both decided to do this as a side job I hope to be one of your customer in the maken's thanks for sharing 🤗
OMG, did you actually call it 'Dent, Arthur Dent'? rotf I just love this. Love, love, love the energy, joy, and ingenuity. Don't panic, and I see you each have your towel.
Actually, jzt999, they went with Harvey Dent, Two-Face in one or two of the Batman movies. I do, however, dig your referencing "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". I hope you got to see the original BBC series before the movie. And I'm quite impressed with what the young couple did to improve their living quarters. Good vid. bd
Great job living your priorities, you two! Suggestion: Looks like you could build in a shelving area at the back of your over-cab area for books, decorative items, etc. Something with different sized cubbies would be super cute. Use clear Museum Gel (yay Amazon Prime!) to anchor decorative items to the shelves when you’re driving.
You two did an amazing job with the renovations.👏 Your home looks great.❤Good advice, really good video. Oh and love the colors you used as well as all the plants. God bless and be safe, 🌻🌻
You guys did an awesome job, it looks great! Extremely informative video! More than happy to subscribe! May God bless y’all & keep you in His loving care 🙏
Got almost 10 out of my newer fuel injected 460 and I believe it'll do better if I lighten up and improve the suspension. It's worth it when everything works nicely.
This is the second time I’ve watched this Video … The of the set up of this old RV , the white paint, homemade curtains & wood accents here and there give this old RV not only a clean sleek look but also looks really homey & pretty spacious🙂 I have to say for their first time they did an AWESOME JOB!!! They kept the Original Stove & Frig & Painted the Counter Tops & even by changing it up a little and use 2 separate spaces for the Bathroom & the Shower it still looks Spacious 👍🏼 keeping the old stove & refrigerator the bench style table & a few of the other keep Original Things keep “Harvey Dent” Looking true to himself & yet w/ the wood accents thrown in here and there & some new updates, Not only have they managed to merge together a Combination of Styles that really fits their personalities BUT also, make it look really homey & comfortable👍🏼👍🏼 In all the renovation of Olde Rvs to tiny homes this is one of my Favorites 👍🏼🥰 Thank You For Sharing This Awesome Video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If you hadn't used the counter paint, what you you recommend now? I think it looks great... how hard would it be to paint it again when it begins to show wear? Love all your ideas... and yes, with three dogs you automatically become "crazy dog people." We just lost our status as"crazy cat people" when our third kitty passed away. Now we're just the crazy people who take our two cats in the RV, the sailboat and the Jeep. Thank you for the tour and the inspiration.
You guys are awesome. I'm 66 years old been married for 45 years. I love the fact you guys are so Frugal in your spending. You guys seem so happy even the dogs are smiling. I think RVing is a wonderful lifestyle. Stay staff. I sure one day you will have the class A diesel pusher with 45 feet 4 sidleouts. If I was a wealthy man I buy it for you guys. Enjoy every adventure. Enjoy each other. My God keep you both safe as you travel 🙏. ❤
Awesome I have a 1990 like it , dual rearends, 460 gas engine, my wife and I live in it full time and love it, we have been for about 26 years. Never gets old
Be careful using solar! It's nice but have an outlet for all unused electricity. Meaning have something that will use it up. If you don't have enough batteries that is. If you don't have enough batteries that they can't all fully charge so that electricity will always have a place to be stored or you don't have a way to use up all extra electricity you could overload your wires and cause a fire. My uncle learned that first hand when his house caught fire. We think he had too much electricity in his system and not a good enough outlet. Within a week after he doubled his output his house which had stood for years suddenly burned down. The fire was found to have started at his woodpile which was within arms reach of his batteries. He had been using them for years. But they were in good shape. The only reason they would have suddenly caught fire without someone burning his house down is that his system overloaded. Just my two cents and a bit of a PSA
A new sub here. Some people have critiqued your video but I really enjoyed it. It's late, I'm tired, but I still kept up with you. You gave good details, lots of information. I agree with getting some butcher block inserts over the sinks for more prep space and also putting a coating over the "granite" paint. Looks great, love the dogs, I'm happy for you two. I travelled from TX to CA in a caravan with an RV, a truck with a car behind it and a golf cart in the bed, and a moving truck. We used walkie talkies, too. We would help each other pass on the highway by blocking the pass lane for the others. Jenny could help you like that if she doesn't. Thanks for the video.
youve done a very nice job identifying and addressing your needs in this conversion.....just an idea if you were looking for a solution in making your toilet closed off from living space you could fashion a sliding door or concertina door out of corflute. It would be a budget and weight friendly option that would fit into your clean and minimal aesthetic. It could be used for shower wet area too and if you can get semi transparent corflute that would also let in light in the internal area as well. Just a suggestion if not for you but for people who might be put off by having no door on the toilet area. But excellent effort I can see why you guys are so happy with the end result!
Love the reno. This pre-loved RV is the best. Well Done you 2!!! Now, I'd consider one of these along with a skoolie for my new home. For the price this is comparable to a skoolie build out.
Can anyone explain where in the US it would be legal to live in an RV? I’ve been researching and have been finding out that in most places it’s illegal to live in an RV full time. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!
Wow talk about over legalization. That's so wrong, if folks want to live in RV and deal with their waste disposal it should be allowed. I didn't know this....Hope they make a video.
Did you find out whether it is legal to sleep in your car, van or RV? I had been wondering too, because I heard the van owners talking about "stealth sleeping" for when they boondocked on a street or somewhere out of the way.
