if you have time before you go you should visit either bejaia (very naturally beautiful) or one of the sahara cities like ghardia or djannet, its like a whole different vibe from the north and is beautiful, the tuareg are amazing people aswell.

Very safe and lovely people. I went there and was well received even as a son of pied noir. Our pied noir family was well integrated and used to have birthdays and party will all religion and races.

There are lots of comments by Moroccans who can't stand the fact that Algeria could be a top Tourist destinations if Algerians choose to do that! But the fact is Algeria refuses to become a major tourist destination because Algerians want to preserve the culture and *NOT* become beggars, hustlers and scammers like some of our neighbours who rely heavily on tourism. Algeria should keep catering for authentic eco-tourism that is for the few who appreciate an authentic experience without all the eco-destructive infrastructure created by mass tourism
