Poor Hunter. You guys have done so much for him, and he really seems like a sweet natured boyo. Hope if the hard decisions have to be made you feel supported . You do so much for all of them. On a bright note, it was fun to see all those chunky ponies getting adopted, especially the one to the family with the young child. That looked the beginning of a beautiful friendship!
I love that Nate is doing the new intro. Great job Nate! Thank you to all of you for all you do to help equines. It's also great that Nate is such a handy guy. Glad your all managing thru the chilly temps out there on the tundra. Poor Hunter, you all are working so hard for him. I'm hoping that eventually between Pauley and the vet you can get him back to being sound.
Got lucky finding this gem of a vet, to qork qith. The amount of time he went back and forth between the two computers shows he is willing spend the time and not just brush it off as oh well can't see anything, he wanted to be sure !!
Its been cold here for florida ( d.b.) its been 41 or so at night. I feel so bad for you guys having to deal with it being so cold. I found if i wear leg warmers over my knees, lol it seems to keep me warmer. Thanks for your videos..they make me relax after 16 hr work days , or distract my alzheimer, or dementia residents ( rest home ..) and gives me a " break"( they all sit still , and watch, they love animals, ( alot of them have been in farms, i think thats why they like it alot. Lol. Some days, its like trying to herd cats, they are all over the place, but..one cat sees a bird int the window, they all seem to sit and look at it.. kinda the same with your videos. Its also the laughter, and the calm way you talk to the horses..
It's funny that there is a horse named Julie. I'm a Julie so it's funny to hear how Julie did in the round pen. She's a beautiful and sweet horse. I hope Julie does well under your wonderful care. ❤🐎
So glad you have water!! Prayers for poor hunter😢!! Great video!! Thanks all of you for your dedication to helping those animals who dont have a voice!!!❤❤❤
My father told me when temperatures go so low to freeze the water in taps it's always a practice leave it open just a tad higher than a drip. This ensured the water is always running and won't have the opportunity to freeze solid. Thereby ensuring water comes out when you need it. You can always add a hose pipe and fill up water bowls. Hope that helps?
Don’t take this the wrong way but there is insulated tape for water pipes. You just plug it in and it keeps the pipe from freezing. And then you can wrap it with a protective tape so nothing can damage it. Just a suggestion. It’s an expensive I’ve done it in my crawlspace for my house pipes. Speaking from experience once you guys too be blessed❤😊
Thank you for the suggestion. It is usually not an issue though as long as the hose gets detached from the hydrant. Rule #1 around here in the winter. Lol. But, people forget and mistakes happen.
Sure hope Pauly and your vet can find Hunter’s front legs problems. I know you won’t give up on him before trying other solutions. I live in NE Wisconsin, so I understand the winter weather challenges too. You all are doing an awesome job rescuing these animals. God’s blessings!
Another thing lmfao..paulie, hes been a great inspiration, my elderly get their toe nails trimmed.. it helps alot when i told them , see? They are getting their toes trimmed too! ( they used to throw a fit..or ask if would hurt.. i am also able to easier explain thats why you get x rays.. to see why you are hurting..the x ray dont hurt. Lol. ( question for paulie..i go to chiro for lower lumbar stenosis..pain in one isolated area..our poditrist at work was watching me walk, he said , you dont limp, but you drag your toe alot..mesured my legs.. ( yes i already knew one is longer) he made me put paint on my feet walk acrost paper, looked at the bottom of my feet , and work shoes..he made a " lift" insert for my shoe..because i was always grabbing back of my hips..lol felt sorry for me didnt charge me. Omg! What a BIG difference.. ALOT of my pain went away..in my whole body.. so question is..if a horse is painful else where.. does he do just one or two feet? To make all the feet even? Like a lift on one or two? Just curious. In 3 weeks, he fixed pain ive had long term . ( my feet didnt really hurt that much but my hips, and shoulder did. Now, alot more pain free. Hes awesome,
I love your videos, almost one hundred percent of them are "can't stop watching" even though I am up past my beddie time! Pauley bit short tempered this time. It must be hard to work in such cold, on a horse that isn't into what your trying to help with because he got owies but can't tell you how much. Man all I have to say is where you are in the TUNDRA takes some tough people and it just makes me respect all of you that much more.
22:32 try to remember to look at his feet and not his eyes. He'll feel more comfortable... I know it's hard and unnatural for us. You are terrific with them all! Thank you so much for all you do and the gentleness
Oh poor Hunter, I really hope you could find a solution for him! The new intro is amazing and it’s nice to hear Nate speaking. Garfield is walking the walk on the wild side 😂 He is so cute 🥰 To see all the adoptions is always so heartwarming. Especially the family with the small boy. I wish all of them a great time together!
Oh my god I have MISS YOU GUYS. I’ve been feening for your videos I’ve miss you all and missed the docs and Pauly. He is a very smart and loving fairer. It doesn’t seem like there’s many like him
Thank you for everything you've done for Hunter, the kindness and love that you've shown him and all the horses you take on. All said and done, your staff wil make the correct decision in the best interest of Hunter❤❤❤❤
I sure hope you can help Hunter..he looks in a LOT of pain there..for a minute l thought Garfield was hurt..l love ginger 🐈 cats.. Julie has come a long way from that awful injury..and yes Stone looked well and truly STONED😂😂🐐.. Good job he won't remember or feel that😮.. great intro Nate..that snow is a bugger isn't it..hate it..Take care if yourselves..great video..can't wait until your next one..love and blessings sent your way..🇬🇧💕🙏✝️👍👏🐈🐾🐐🐎🐎🐴🇺🇸
A little tip for horses that have some issues accepting taking the bit. I prepare some beatshavings in luke warm water befor I ride out. I put the bit in that water so it smells and taste nice. After a while they drop their head opening the mouth just to get it in for the nice taste. In winter its extra nice with it beeing both warm tasty. Keep up the good job!! ❤
I remember when Julie came into ponytails, she was the saddest thing I had ever seen those two holes in the top of her head that met in the middle and went all the way through and I remember Ray dressing those wound day after day after day she was a sad. Julie is a cute little horse.
I love the ingenuity of your staff, coming up with solutions on the fly like they do. My dad raised us girls in this manner. He always said learn anything and everything you can, learn how to fix a problem with what you have on hand as you never know when learning this will come in handy. Daddy was ever so right! It has bailed not only me but a lot of others out of misery many a time. Way to go crew! My dad would be proud!
Awww, Julie is looking really good now. I remember that head wound of hers was pretty rough! Poor Hunter, guy was limping as hard I was Friday before last
Wish I would’ve caught this premier! I don’t know why I didn’t get a notification…. Julie did great!❤. So did Kazoo…❤ Pauly was a little crazy, but that’s normal!😂😂 I hope Hunter can be taken care of, God.bless y’all for all of the work you do!!😊❤❤
Love watching the videos, even when it is 5am in the morning and I can't sleep XD July is another good example that you usually get better results when you are in the left eye of the horse, cause horses get worked on from the left side much more. Like putting the halter on there, leading from there, getting up on this side etc. So working in their left eye makes them feel safer. Usually when something dangerous happens, it happens in the right eye because they are spookier there (hence when everything is fine from the left, you need to work more from the right too, to lessen the chance of a spook) It was nice to see how she warmed up to you after the first huddle
One thing I've heard is when trying to balance eyes, do a lot of nice stuff like grooming in the less favored eye and do the less pleasant stuff like giving medicine in the favorite eye until you balance them out. ALso just a lot of neutral time in the lesser eye, as you said.
I put my navic horse in front boots and change them out daily stuffed with shredded newspaper for a while to relieve bad spells. Really helps him. He can't take the pounding of nails or the pulling of shoes. I keep his toes rolled and short but not too short. I've tried everything. He also hates standing on one or the other front for too long. So painful for them. Cold doesn't help.
I really do anticipate watching your videos, even if I need to make time at 1am to do so! I wish I were able to work around these horses like you do, I don't however, envy the hard decisions you have to make with some of your charges. Good riding and God bless you all.
I wouldn't mind having Jules, but you are up there and I'm down here in Arkansas. The little brown and white gilding would be a good one to send my way also.
I highly recommend watching Steve Young Horsemanship RU-vid channel. He has some great training exercises when working with shy horses that are connected to horse behavior so no harsh training. Always good to get a few tips from someone who’s been training horses for 25 plus years. He’s from Wales, UK.
Hi to all the gang, just to say do be careful around compressed gas cylinders, ie do not allow electrical cables to be strung over them, shorts can happen and bad things may result! Love the show!
Would you explain TUNDRA for us who don't understand the reference? I thought tundra was far far north past where trees grow. I do enjoy your videos. Helping animals!
Wisconsin (and a lot of the upper Midwest) is often referred to as "The frozen tundra". Obviously an actual frozen tundra the ground never thaws, it just often feels like that up here. It's like as soon as the ground and everything does thaw out in the spring/summer, it's almost winter again and it starts to freeze all over again. Lol.
Pauly! Woohoo! Love to see Pauly. Waiting on that farrier RU-vid channel. There's a bunch for cows but not a ton of good and entertaining for horses. Get in it Pauly!
So nice seeing something different than vets taking their temp and hoof care ! Man I know that’s important and has to be done but I couldn’t watch that anymore. This is a nice change !!! ❤️🐴❤️
Don't know if this information is of any use to you: I have a horse, discovered lame at 2 years when taught to lunge. Limped clockwise, sound anticlockwise. Block showed below pastern. X ray showed small bone chip in hoof. Conclusion; pulled the ligament in the hoof, away from the bone. Conclusive diagnosis only available from MRI. None on my island. 3 months box rest, straight lines only when hand walking. 4 years later, it is still not worth breaking him in. Still limps to the right at the trot. Canters and bucks up and down hills, head bobs when turning right for a few strides, then sound when straight or turning left.
Oh! Cindy for the record, the hoodies pony tales sells are FAR superior and much more comfortable than the horse plus ones 😉🥰 I practically live in the one I bought. Going to get 1 more style in a different color soon.
I really like your new introduction. Poor Hunter. I would pull those shoes, they dont seem to be helping, maybe try rubber boots, softer stability. Maybe the cold temps are making Hunters hoof pain worse. Offer, Red Mineral salt block. Clovite supplement. Feed the butterball, just grass hay with vitamin & mineral supplements. Maybe he is foundered. I am just brain storming. Poor Hunter such a sweet boy! ❤ maybe theres an abscess. His xray didnt look to bad! Very frustrating. Is Dr Kristen not helping you anymore? I really like her. This Vet seems really good too! Love you all! Take Care! ❤ Oh that Garfield Cat! He so darn cute! Fearless! Is he still a Tom Cat?
Julie sure is pretty. I got my days mixed up and missed the Premiere. 😢 the intro sounds good, Nate! I realize it’s only January but I’m totally ready for Spring. Thank you for the video.
our bucket would freeze in our 100 horse barn, we would use a hammer on the buckets. We kept the hose in the ladies room which had the only wall space heater. Thirsty horses, NY State winters, '70s.
Geez i feel for him... poor kid. That sucks. I hope.yous can figure some way to help him so he doesnt have to go down. He seems like a sweet boy aside from whatever is wromg.
Years ago, my brother and his family hit a horse while driving through a wooded countryside on a road trip. The horse came through the windshield . There was horse shit all over everything, but the horse was apparently not hurt....it was a mare, loose, and somehow uninjured, while the car was no longer habitable or driveable. So it happens .... it also reminds me of the expression, "S... happens!"
An acquaintance had a stallion that got loose and into the road. He was hit by a car and either killed outright or had to be put down. Another person hit a horse and buggy and the horse had to be put down. Cars and horses don’t mix. I also heard of a man hitting a deer and the deer came through the windshield. I presume the deer was killed. I don’t remember what happened to the driver.
I'd like to suggest (although maybe you do) that if floats come in with the floor covered in mucky straw that you check they are sound before letting a horse be loaded. I've known of 2 horses that have gone through the floor of a travelling float - I'm sure I don't have to describe the tragic result. Fingers crossed for Hunter.
Poor Hunter! His front feet just look ouchy! I hope you can figure out what’s happening there. Could be something completely different that’s wrong, I don’t know, just a thought. Like Pauly said, if they could talk it would be so much easier! Take care, stay warm! ❤️❤️
What is the sound Ganon makes throughout his examination, with the vet? He's blowing a lot of air through his nose. Almost sounds like he's snoring, but he's very awake. Vet even commented how goofy he was acting.
I remember when you first got her Dr. Kristen evacuated that wound and shaved it off. It was an Amish rescue wasn’t it mean I’m not supposed to say that that horse looked miserable if it’s the one I was thinking of
Awe, Hunter looks like the shoes have done more damage then good :( but how would you know until you tired I wonder if something else is going on, or if it's like Polly said seen horses with way worse doing great and vice cesarean. Big hugs Hunter! You have the best team making decisions for you and who will do their best to stop your suffering:(
@12:00 min +/-, referencing working with Julie: There is a horse trainer and RU-vidr, Ryan Rose, who you might be interested in subscribing to. The man is phenomenal with horses, and he has a kind touch. I love watching him work with the horses and I have learned a lot from him, even though I was riding way before he was ever born. For that matter, I haven't had a horse in the past 10 years. Even so, the love of horses never leaves you, and none of us can ever know too much and knowledge never hurt anybody, don't you know? Not that you are not doing a fine job, but you might pick up some pointers on working with the various horses that cross your path. In the meantime, blessings to you and Pony Tales for saving the animals that fate has dis/misplaced. No doubt there is a special place in heaven for people like you.
My cousin got a rescue you couldn't ride because he was such cleaver bugger. lol He would stand stock still for the tacking and mounting but the second you tried to send him off, he'd buckle his front leg to the point of you nearly going over his head. Panicked, my cousin jumped down yelling for his wife to get the vet out as this horse must be in agony to buckle that bad. While he was busy getting all weight off he horse walked away whining it's head off, like he was laughing. Ne caught him again, thinking a stone, went over his front feet with a fine tooth comb, saddled him and hit happened again. Vet came out, said there was nothing he could see or feel that would cause it. They tried again and again it happened. Beautiful palomino, excellent with kids and pets, you just couldn't ride him as he would buckle his front leg to toss you over his head and laugh like hell at you as he trotted away. lol
There are solutions, have another person with lead rope in hand and every time he buckles, work him hard on lunges and turns. Then let him go easy and slow only if a rider is on him. Make rides fun, maybe ride him to a bowl with carrot intermittently, various things to make him have a good attitude about the ride. Right now in his mind, he is getting advantage from that buckle game which is why he does it, you have to make it so he decides the buckling results in more hassle than the riding would. Take way the beneficial outcome of buckling and make the ride seem more sweet. We got a rescue that hated the halter so I started planting a bowl of hay and a few carrots for someone on the walk and very soon, he became eager to get his halter put on and go find that hay. I do the walk before dinner so he is hungry. Give the horse as reason to want to do that thing you want them to do, put something in for them that they like.
@@OnceUponaTimeline My cousin did everything, there was just no breaking this horse, so he just became a great pasture pet. This story was from when I was a child. My parents would punish me by sending me to the farm since I was a city girl. Little did they know, I loved it there with all the animals. They had everything but pigs. The vet said to keep at it, that eventually he would have to break but he never did. They tried for two hours with different riders and that horse would just not break! He was just unrideable for whatever reason. As there was no real background on him being a rescue except he was unrideable, my cousin could not see him put down just because he didn't want someone on his back. The other rescues worked out just fine. As if they knew he had saved them it was strange watching him retrain them. The man had a way the horse understood. There was only one he could not save out of the many. It had killed it's owner and two others who tried to catch it to get back in a stall. It was not for lack of trying at great risk either my cousin tried to save this one.
A big suggestion when ha d walking for vet or farrier-- hand short under chi ,head at shoulder and walk on left side of horse out of the line of site !!! And NEVER EVER STAND DIRECTLY INFRONT OF A HORSE YOU HERE LIMITED EXPERIENCE WITH!!!!I hate to see anyone get hurt....
