Video footage captured from the back of a Tesla shows a pickup truck ramming into it before speeding off in the middle of Lehi. Read more: ksltv.com/6547...
This video is from my husband and me. The charges have been updated to be more severe and the police are investigating more deeply into the situation that happened. The man who hit us has had prior road rage incidents from info we were given. We are hoping to get this man off the streets for everything he has done to us and those that happened before us so it doesn’t happen in the future. (Edit) For those wanting more context: In the video prior to the accident, we were driving in traffic on the way to the freeway and the man was behind us a few cars back but swerving between the lanes to get further ahead. Once we got to the first light that you see at the beginning of this video, he had moved behind us. Once that light turned green and we were heading to the second light before the freeway on-ramp, that is when he hit us and started pushing. There were cars in front of us so there is no reason why he started doing that. If he had waited a few seconds longer, he would’ve been able to pass us because the left lane there splits into two left lanes…
This stretch of road is incredibly notorious for road rage! Like you said, there were cars in front of you guys when this happened, and the buffoon still decides to rage at the car in front of them even though there was nowhere for you to go. It takes so much restraint to not get triggered by road ragers like that guy. Kudos for keeping your cool during the whole thing.
Yikes! How scary! I hope they revoke his license and give him jail time. Glad no one was seriously injured, but it's still traumatizing to go through something like that. Be safe!
The guy should lose his privilege to drive forever. He should also be charged for the collision, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident. Severe fines, reparations to be paid and a lengthy jail sentence. I'm glad you are both safe but contact a person injury lawyer just in case. I say this because where I live if you don't report personal injuries within a specific period of time you won't be able to do later. Neck and back injuries don't always appear right away.

@@littlet7556 so you wait till a bad accident happens, before you call it an attempted murder? But by then, it's too late. Your logic doesn't work here, troll boy.
@@luminoxx5150Honestly, yes you're right, even if it's less satisfying to the victims. Maybe agg. assault w/ a deadly weapon would be better? The way murder is legally defined, there often needs to be some amount of specified violent intent for attempted murder charges. I don't think this truck driver, however out of line, qualifies those criteria for attempted murder.
While I absolutely agree with you. People who act like that, while driving a vehicle, are not likely to care about whether they have their license or not.
Intentional ? "Starting July 1, Utah's new road rage law goes into effect, putting bigger fines and tougher penalties on drivers who engage in road rage. Those with a history of it could be looking at enhanced felony charges."
Road Rage needs to be punished and required to go to anger management classes. Sending a notice to their insurance company would be a good idea too. Aggressive driving is getting worse and worse.
@@Tat2Dragons again one way story, NO proof given by the driver that traffic infront of him was bad even though teslas have front cameras and he could have proven a line of slow traffic. NONE PROVIDED. All of you are running on feelings not fact and its called lying! So ya i want 50 years in jail for lying statements. All of you in jail for 50 years! WHAT DONT YOU GET! Also the driver didnt say what he did to piss off a driver of a 8500lbs truck.
@@brandogeberbin7563 Nothing you’ve said is relevant. You don’t get a free pass to make contact with another vehicle and push them, because you don’t like their driving.
This guy has friends on the force. First of all this is a clear cut case of reckless driving and it is also not a "Traffic accident" because there was nothing accidental about it. There was willful destruction of property and "Leaving the scene of an "Accident" is the absolute minimum charge that the police absolutely had to charge him with. This guy feels like he is above the law for a reason, because apparently, so far, he is.
@@andysheepleton ,don’t just assume he has friends on the force. I worked for two OUTSTANDING departments during my 25 year career in law enforcement. Neither one of those departments would have ever let this slide.
Charged with simply “leaving the scene of an accident”? That’s ridiculous! It was intentional. How do they call it an accident? It’s was vehicular assault and leaving the scene at the very least! To call it an accident is moronic. The guy is a danger to others and the police call it leaving the scene of an accident? Idiotic.
What they said was “he hopes once it’s turned over to the DA that he will face more charges” they don’t actually say that’s what is happening. Who’s not listening?
Yeah and then you didn't even catch bubble-headed bleach blonde mistakenly saying "FAILING to leave... the scene of an accident" Go listen to her again at 1:46
Why wasn't the driver arrested!!?? It is clear that it was also felony assault..... looks like the cops know this road rager and giving him special treatment
Some guy did this to us this past Sunday. He was aggressively on our tail, as if we could go any faster with cars in front of us on a two lane road. We approached a traffic circle, where we planned to turn right, but he tried to to cut around us, on the right, INTO a traffic circle. He didn’t manage to cut us off, he entered the circle and almost hit people already in the circle. He went straight. He had no intention to turn right, we had 4 kids in the car, and this was 9:30 on a Sunday. Totally crazy.
The driver of the truck should also be charged with Dangerous Driving and/or Careless driving, and the fact that he pushed your vehicle into the intersection, he could possibly be charged with attempted murder X 2. In any event, I hope that the police take this matter seriously, and I am happy that neither one of you got physically hurt, or killed.
I've have personally seen several instances of the stereotypical big 4x4 pickup intentionally harassing Tesla and Prius drivers; there was no ambiguity to their actions. A lot of people have a very deep, emotional animosity towards electric cars and their owners. Just another example of our culture wars here in the USA. lots of angry people. Some are triggered just by the sight of a Tesla
That light bar on the roof. I’m guessing he’s volunteer fire/ems which makes this even worse. I’m sure the cops already know him by first name which is why it’s being kept quiet
WOW!!! That looked extremely scary, Ida been freaking out. You could definitely tell, it was intentional. I hope they keep a close eye on THAT driver, they did it this time, basically just got a ticket, they'll do it again, I'm sure. 😡😥
The biggest problem is there is a lacking of enforcement of traffic laws. Chances are there are no cops to catch you if you tailgate, run a red light, etc. Even if there is, many police have higher priorities such as going after speeders than deal with people tailgating or running red lights. The new road rage law will do nothing as people already are getting away with road rage and will continue to do so. In this case, they are investigating him and he may never get charged with anything even though it appears he purposely hit this vehicle. He already got off with only being charged with leaving the scene of an accident when he could face charges for tailgating and possibly reckless driving.
Sponsored by Rep. Paul Cutler, R-Centerville, Road Rage Amendments takes effect July 1. “I wish it were already in effect,” said Weiler, who sponsored the bill in the Senate. The law defines road rage as a criminal action “with the intent to endanger or intimidate an individual in another vehicle.”
He took the “If you can’t Dodge it, Ram it!” LITERALLY! Glad you are okay, and this type of behavior is severe. You can’t use your vehicle as a weapon…….
up to 15yrs jailtime for road rage but only 10yrs for murder(good behavior), 7yrs for sexual assault(less for good behavior). The sentencing laws across the Country make zero sense!
The idiot in the truck should be charged with attempted murder !!! He obviously has friends on the police force or in the district attorney’s office . Please don’t let him get away with what he did to you both. He deserves prison time for it.
@1:43 "The truck driver was cited for failing the leave the scene of an accident." Really?! Leaving the scene of an accident is something he most certainly did not fail to do. EDIT: She corrects herself later in the story. Good catch in real time.
I don’t like how much footage is cut out, I’m not defending truck dude but he has his signal on to get into other lane and then video cuts to Tesla suddenly in that lane and being hit, did they suddenly jump out in front of him getting hit? Just because he’s the only one with a camera doesn’t mean he’s automatically in the right, it’s telling that the guy was only charged with fleeing cuz that kinda tells 😂
1:44 The truck driver was cited for “failing to leave the scene”??? Did you mean for leaving the scene? Or possibly, failing to remain at the scene? Don’t you guys have editors and producers and people like that check things for accuracy and continuity and all that other critical stuff?
Only in the United States where you have clear evidence of this man and you're still calling it possible road rage. NO this was ATTEMPTED MURDER. Point blank period. Attempted murder charges should be filed. And yes endangering the lives of others with your stupid vehicle should always be considered as attempted murder.
Of course it was a truck. And of course it was a Dodge. Drivers of pickup trucks these days are the absolute worst drivers on the road. Lots of dangerous, aggressive driving. Remember that truck that passed illegally and killed that nice couple in the vintage Porsche?
There are aggressive, unlawful drivers in any and all vehicle types...including whatever type of vehicle You drive. Need proof? Watch ANY dash cam video compilation.
Most people that drive Teslas are complete dicks and have no idea how to drive. Remember the guy that committed multiple road rage incidents last year? Do you see how stupid your comment is? The type of vehicle, or make, isn’t relevant when it comes to road rage. People that drive compact cars also drive recklessly and aggressive. The difference is that it is hard to intimidate someone when you are driving a Prius. You just don’t like trucks, and apparently Ram trucks (hasn’t been Dodge for over two decades now).
You can bet your bottom dollar he's one of those who hates people for driving EV's, like the ones who purposefully blow their black smoked exhausts when in front of a smaller car.
I've noticed in recent years that these Ram drivers are driving more aggressively and tailgating. I've been in 2 incidents in the last year, where I've been tailgated unprovoked. Must be some sort of small 🍆 syndrome.
Wonder what the Tesla driver and his driving "style" did to precipitate the event. Not excusing the pick-up drivers behavior, but it's a pretty sure bet the Tesla was driving like an entitled ahole. Tesla drivers are a more expensive version of a Prius driver.
@@RemainNameless614 Yes, it is a light bar. My bad. From one side angle it looked like an opened moon roof, but in another frame you could see it was a light bar.
Everyone needs to chill about the guy only getting a ticket for leaving the scene of the crime. The police can only go on what they know at the time. Watching a video of someone hitting the back of a car only tells you that a collision has occurred. You cannot tell if the guy in the Tesla brake checked him causing the contact. People do that sometimes, and without more information you really can’t tell. The Tesla guy could be lying about what he did in response to a person tailgating him. The evidence presented to the cops only shows that an accident happened and one of the vehicles involved left the scene. It is up to the DA to investigate further and bring additional charges if they feel they are warranted.
Everyone is ragging on the truck driver without all the facts. I'd like to see the 5 minutes prior to this on his video, not just where the truck is fed up with him.
"The driver was cited for failing to leave the scene of an accident..." Well, actually, he successfully left the scene of the accident. Where are your editors? And yes, I realize she corrected herself later but still... why air the error?
@@WhoReallyCares917 that’s good news, you are a good guy. You are right about tesla drivers. There are two types in my opinion. One that show off gunning it from every light and driving aggressively. The other type will drive you crazy. This 2nd type, I’m included at times. Is having the car in “Full Self Driving Supervised” (FSD). The car drives on its own like a teenager at a DMV driving test. Obeying every law and speed limit on Freeways and city streets. When I’m using FSD to make a right turn for example, it slowly approaches the intersection, stops behind the limit line, than creeps up to the corner, looks for traffic than slowly makes the turn. This drives people crazy behind me. So in other words the car drives like a grandma. Till the software is perfect, it will be like this for a while. I apologize for my cars driving. I think I’ll put “student driver” stickers on it. 🤔
A possible case of road rage? Did this news channel watch the footage? How was that incident not a felony hit and run? Why didn’t the cops call the DA while they were on scene investigating the incident after catching the truck driver? They had the video at that point. That’s how they got the information. None of this makes sense on the police part.
Police departments need a dedicated traffic enforcement unit 100% undercover. I think a third of everyone driving should not be on the road. Times have changed. Vehicles are being designed lighter, faster and the drivers are getting dumber. Suspend licenses more often.
