Miserable People just want to make everyone else Miserable. Try to avoid them like the Plague!

If she is that concerned about the environment, she should stay home. She should not travel anywhere.

Some people are just happy to be unhappy ALL the time. Can't fix stupid. Life is way too short.

I've never heard so many people complain as I did on my last cruise. The food was awful, the people were rude, the pool wasn't big enough, the rooms weren't nice enough. Ugh! Please stay home people.

Imagine being in a place some people can only dream of, and doing nothing but complain.

The Staff Captain is the #2 top officer on the ship, only the captain is above him - in fact, he's the captain's backup in case something happens to the captain! One of the Staff Captain's main duties is Chief Security Officer - so he was most likely out there assessing the iceberg situation

Thought never crossed her mind that they are checking out the burg for safety. Most of the mass of ice burgs are underwater. When they turn the ship later they need to know how close they can safely come near the ice burg. The burg also can move. What a busybody that woman is!

I said this on Tony's video and I'll repeat it here for truth... it seems there are people who spend thousands of dollars on a cruise with the sole intent to make everyone absolutely miserable, both crew and passengers. Between fares going up and seemingly more people like that on every cruise, my cruising days might be numbered. This lady complaining about using so much fuel and polluting though, I would have snapped after the third time and told her "if Princess is so terrible, why did you just spend money to cruise with them?"

We had a mother & daughter years ago on a Royal Caribbean Cruise to Alaska. They sat next to us in the dining room and complained about EVERYTHING!!! They were exhausting. We finally asked to be moved we were at tables for 2 but they were right next to us. 🤦🏻‍♀️ felt bad for the head waiter and the wait staff.

Unhappy people make people unhappy. Unfortunately many of them are beyond fixing.

My husband and I have been on 32 cruises (all Carnival), and I'm happy to say that most people are really nice and friendly, however, we too have run into these kinds of people. Some people just like for find fault in everything. If this lady was so worried about the environment, she should stay home and ride a bicycle everywhere she goes.

Hi Don, I commented on Tony's vlog about this lady too. But I want to emphasize that the Staff Captain (along with the Captain and everyone else who works on the ship) gets everyone on board to their destination safely. He can sure as sugar do whatever he wants!

People like that should never cruise period ! I’ve bumped into a few also! Luckily most cruisers are very social and like to chat and are fun, but those crappy ones can bring the whole vibe down!

If the captain needs to check things out , we should be grateful. This lady is a crab.

I can't imagine a Staff Captain, who has likely seen plenty of icebergs, would go out there just to look or take a video. He likely went to see how big the underwater portion of the iceberg was so they don't hit it when leaving port.

Don, do you remember when cruising restarted after COVID? Everyone was just happy to be back onboard with no complaining. In some way I wish we could go back to that!

I used to be in the Navy. Whenever a lifeboat is deployed it involves a lot of people & it’s not cheap for them to do. Whenever we did it in the Navy there was a specific reason for it, not a joyride. I’m almost certain that if it was just one person it was for a myriad of reasons other than a joyride.

My first thought would have been that this iceberg needed checking out for safety reasons. Icebergs move, and so do ships, so one needs to go check it out. Anyway, who cares if the ships staff take their tenders out for whatever reason.

Buddhism teaches followers to avoid toxic people. I'm not a Buddhist, but its good advice.

Reminds me of a lady on our last cruise who was quite upset that a man violated the "formal dress code" at dinner. He had obviously paid more for the cruise than she had because he was in the reserve collection, and she was waiting with us with regular passengers. I thought, "Why do you care?"

I too have encountered cruiser like those you described. They indeed make me grit my teeth. It must be especially difficult for you Don to put up with these types when you are trying to do your job. I commend you for your professionalism.

Some people should just not cruise. They just make life miserable for everyone. When you said about the staff captain going out to look at the iceberg I assumed it was for safety reasons. Maybe if it was safe maybe they would take the tenders around on their way to port?

No coffee on the island, the ship had a dozen places you can get coffee.

Imagine being that woman's cabin steward or to stay with her in the same cabin.

It's so sad that people can't have good manners and just be kind when traveling anywhere.

People are crazy!! The more you travel, the more you meet them. I find it comical and becomes a conversation piece! Same people who leave a seat and expect to get it back when they return! We had a slot machine issue on the Golden Princess, someone came over to my husband and told him that that was her machine and he needs to leave, because she played it every night! Never had issues on other brands!

People died on the Titanic because they didn’t fill the tenders. Move over.

Maybe the staff captain was rewarded for exceptional work and was allowed to pick something to do. It really is none of her business!

It’s too bad that people forget there are others around them trying to enjoy their vacation too. We have run into many like that. We have also met some polite and wonderful people too. It’s a good lesson for me to make more effort to be positive and kind.

Cruise crew see those icebergs often, so if a crew member went to inspect an iceberg his visit had a purpose. It wasn't just a joyride.

I pity the husband to have to put up with her inane chatter….

I know that I can’t deal with crowds, long lines for buffets etc so I don’t cruise. Too stressful. I’m afraid I might become “ that lady”!

A person like that woman is going to be miserable no matter where they are. It didn’t matter if she was on a cruise ship or land-based vacation. She’s just miserable and she’s going to tell everybody around her that they should be miserable too. Imagine being her husband! Lol 😝

Some people just complain constantly. Was on a bus tour of Europe 20 years ago and there was this couple that kept themselves separate from the rest of us. We nicknamed them Mr Happy and Poodles. He always complained and never ever smiled but he called his wife Poodles. They would come on the bus when we went from city to city but they wouldn’t come for any of the excursions, even the ones that were included. Can’t imagine paying all that money and not doing what you’ve paid for.

Unfortunately, some people are never happy, and want everybody to know about it!

I was in a small group on a seven-day land trip in September and one woman was an absolute pill. I cannot believe how she treated me. I would have cried had i not been so shocked. I don’t want to be with people any more. I am happy with my birds and squirrels.

The last few cruises we’ve been on have had more rude people than I have seen in our earlier ones. I wondered if it’s the voyage or the type of people who are cruising now. They make everyone unhappy. In the south we say bless their hearts but you have to know the inflection of my voice to know what I mean. Bless that lady’s heart. And the man, too.

This is a private company. It had nothing to do with her what the employees of Princess do with their equipment.

Some people are only about themselves and don't think about anyone else.

Don, thanks for sharing this information. I find sometimes, I'm having a bad day and I get somewhat negative, "why can that person do that, I hope I can get to this thing or that." I'm not sure I'd ever rise to the level of toxicity that this woman displayed, but it does remind me that if you're super negative you can bring others around you down. And, if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it.

What is wrong with their picture? My wife and I had a fantastic cruise on the wonderfull 'Caribbean Princess' recently and it was such a pleasure to meet you and Tony. I will agree with you DON, wow its amazing how some people think they are entitled to do whatever they want. Well I not been a Gentleman like you Don I would told her enough we don't want to hear what she thinks. But as others have said its becoming a everyday thing.

Another thing no one seems to consider is that this crew member may have gone over there to inspect that huge block of ice to see if there was any hidden danger to the ship. Sometimes the bit you see is only "the tip of the iceberg".

I am a happy person most of the time, but when I am on vacation I am a real happy person. Some people will complain about anything, I try to stay away from those kind of people, if possible. To many rude people in this world!

Isn't that the way it always is. You run into someone super annoying while traveling & you continue to encounter them throughout the day. It always happens to me on airplanes. Someone is making a ruckus in the terminal & inevitably they are sitting next to me during the flight.

I saw Tony's video and I wondered, but didn't mention.... I wonder if the "staff captain" had to go check out the water around the iceberg for safety reasons? So then he could instruct the other pilots how close they can get and such...

Some people are just miserable and joyless, and their idea of " happiness" is to make someone else angry or unhappy. One way of dealing with people like that is to be smiley, polite and chatty while respectfully sticking to your own beliefs and opinions. Subconsciously I dont think they want to be happy or contented, so they will find this type of pleasant, friendly behaviour absolutely terrifying and will steer clear of you. If you are lucky, they will avoid you all the cruise. As for the staff member, I doubt he was alone. There are many reasons the tender could have been taken out. Maybe photography as you suggested, or training in piloting the tender, or assessment of the iceburg as 90% of the mass is below water or maybe scientific. I doubt it was solely a joyride . Don - that was very interesting what you just shared, but all I can say is that people like that woman and a gentleman on the tinder. Both of them are unhappy people and that’s why they act the way they do! Just feel sorry for the people that they’re closest to I’m sure their lives are not very happy to say the least.

Incredible woman who exists at her level not only for what she and her family etc. have done... and most any of us do, even being on our non-third world countries... and especially for this cruise she is safe and spoiled for what a whole staff of people do...a 6 star cruise may kick her off (I wonder) for that behavior abd you can bet that would not do either. She truly needs to get a grip and a taste on her own medicine. I love Princess and glad your trip was so great.

An "abuse of power" cannot happen on a commercial vessel when you are the customer. The only time an "abuse of power" can happen on a commercial vessel is in the cases of such things as sexual harassment of a crew member by a senior crew member. Otherwise, we as customers have no actual interest in the outcome of such a situation. So, if a ship's Officer wishes to take out a tender .... it's not our business. On a cruise, I want a clean ship, good food and good service. What the crew wishes to do (that is not affecting me) is none of my business. Some people just love to complain.

Urgggg…totally agree with you!! Self centred & ENTITLED…🙄. I’m a group leader and travel a lot and unfortunately practically on every trip there is this 1 person (usually a woman) that acts like that…self-centered & entitled.

That’s what happens when you have a “Princess “ on board. Maybe there was an issue with the lifeboat/tender and the staff was checking it out.
