Shawn and Mel, per Wikipedia: “Someday We'll Be Together" is a song written by Johnny Bristol, Jackey Beavers, and Harvey Fuqua. It was the last of twelve American number-one pop singles for Diana Ross & the Supremes on the Motown label. Although it was released as the final Supremes song featuring Diana Ross, who left the group for a solo career in January 1970, it was recorded as Ross' first solo single and Supremes members Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong do not sing on the recording. Both appear on the B-side, "He's My Sunny Boy". The male backup vocals are provided by Johnny Bristol.
@@Nonchalant_248 Actually the background singers were Merry Clayton, Julia.and Maxine Waters. I heard Merry Clayton talk about singing the background vocals on this song on a show.
The Supremes were FANTASTIC!!! One of my all time favorite girl groups with their smooth Motown sound of the mid 60s. You MUST play Love is Like an Itching in my Heart, and Back in my Arms Again!! In both Diana belts out the lyrics with beautiful harmony by Nancy and Florence!
Aint No Mountain High Enough, Love Child, Touch Me In The Morning, she had so so many great hits, please react to more Diana. Also the Supreme's "Stoned Love" is my favorite.
Check out this video from the You Tube Channel mosogotam. The Supremes "Stoned Love" My Extended Version...the BIG One! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LC0RzkiV1Os.html Evidently its creator John Perrone, the talented man who put this channel together died from Covid on 5 April 2020. He did tons of other songs' extended versions!
I’m 64 and I remember when those women were young and their music made everybody dance. Barry Gordy made them stars but those girls were born for this! So much pleasure from their music all my life. Now I am a rock and roll kinda girl but my second love is what we called “Soul” music and it still is. ❤️🥰😘💋
One of the HOTTEST MOTOWN acts of the 60's along with THE TEMPTATIONS, MARVIN GAYE, and SMOKEY ROBINSON, who wrote some Motown hits himself. Motown has a long catalog and a very rich legacy.
In 1969 I was 5 years old my older sister played this song Over and over!!! She passed in 2003 ….whenever I hear this song I just cry …thinking of my sister RIP. “someday we’ll be together”. Miss you
They were the best. Ross was the best of the best. This song was number1. At her final performance with the Supreme , the crowd was screaming to hear this song. When the first strings started , the crowd went absolutely nuts. It's available on the final performance cd. She has always been theeee grratest! Period.
The magic of Motown. As a proud Brit,Motown is the greatest thing to ever come out of America in my opinion. We LOVED Motown in the UK way before the rest of the world so we’ve been soul boys and girls from day one, couldn’t get enough of black American music.
Actually she slept with the producer and from then on it was Diana Ross & the Supremes . She wasn't the biggest talent in the group . Sometimes it's not who you know , it's who you blow .. 😅
Yeah, and they have the wrong picture up.. Florence Ballard, the lady on the end had already been betrayed by Diana and fired by Berry Gordy.. Then in a final slap to her face, they played this song at her funeral..
This was the last song played at my mother's funeral, I chose some of her favorite music which also included some gospel by Elvis and the moody blues, I'm sure she was somewhere smiling...♡
Wow, thank you for sharing. I am sorry for your loss. My Mom passed this past Sunday, Nov 28 on her 90th birthday. She always bought the music in our home when I was a kid and was indeed also a musician whose piano playing in a band every Saturday night provided part of our family income. I'm sure your Mom was somewhere smiling for sure...
@@ddiamondr1 I'm so sorry to hear that Diane. I can totally relate. Lost my Mom in 2020 (at 93) and a year and a half later I still find myself talking to her every day. You just don't get over your momma being gone.
Being a 60s baby, I grew up on Motown. Red 66 Impala convertible, no car seat, top down, just standing up on the front seat, hanging on to the seat, cruising with Motown and the 50,000 watt flamethrower, WKBW. The true ambiance of this music came from AM radio. :)
This song was GOLD!!..Back in the 70’s when I’d be driving down the road and this song came on the radio I’d blast it up loud! (Yep, I’m showing my old age)
The male voice you can hear on the track is Johnny Bristol who was just ad libing cos he was in the studio at the time, berry Gordy liked it so kept it on the recording, her goodbye song before going solo, supremes continued with a new member Jean Terrell who I prefer the voice of, they had so many further hits which are all my favourite supremes tracks ❤️
I saw Diana Ross and the Supremes in Sept of 1970 at UMass, Amherst when I was a student there. Believe it or not, tickets were only $3.50 ate the time. Original Member Florence Ballard had left the group and was replaced by Cindy Birdsong. Mary Wilson was there too. Florence Ballard's story is a sad one and you should read about her. She died young. Mary Wilson just died recently.
The Supremes had so many good hits in the 60s and 70s. My two favorites are "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Stoned Love". I really loved hearing these ladies sing. Love your reaction!
My favorite!! This was their last #1 hit. I love to do this one in Karaoke. Diana can combine her signature breathiness into a power note. This is my daily mantra while my husband works away from home on a river barge on the Ohio River. He is gone 20 days at a time then home for 20. We have been together for 20 years.
The magic of Motown is undeniable. They found a formula and cranked out hits by the dozen. The studio writers and musicians are so underappreciated for their parts. We'll never see that groove factory that was the "Motown Sound" again.
Her vocals in this are a perfect example of somethng that can't be taught. Nobody wrote down all those extra sultry 'honey...baby..sweet thing...uh uh I know...hey hey hey... It makes you fall in love with the woman!
The male vocal on the track is provided by the writer of this song Johnny Bristol. There is another song in which Diana Ross as a solo artist covers These Things Will Keep Me Loving you(and it has the same vibe)
On The Motown 25 Yesterday Forever television show, at the end of the show, Diana started singing this song then brought Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong out then every act came out and sang.
One of my favorite Supremes songs! They do a great song with The Temptations called “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me”. If you haven’t yet, please react to that one. It’s a classic!! 👍
This was the Supremes farewell song as a group, I sat watching them on the Ed Sullivan Show for last time as the Supremes. They got a standing ovation when they finished. Ed liked them a lot and had them on his show more than any other group.
The Supremes were supreme in our house. We had several of their albums and the album of The Temptations/Supremes tv special. I remember seeing them perform this live on The Ed Sullivan Show, it was announced as their last performance together. It brought tears to my eyes, they were saying goodbye. Amazing talents, the songwriting, the arrangements, and those voices...
One of my favorites by them. They were awesome girls group! We played their vinyl records over and over until we knew every word to their songs. Very pretty ladies and so sexy!!!
This was the farewell hit for Diana Ross and the Supremes, as Diana left the group to embark on a solo career. The Supremes would continue, but were never quite the same without Diana Ross. Some of the Supremes early hits with Diana Ross are well worth the journey. You might start with "Stop! In the Name of Love," and "You Can't Hurry Love." I also like "Love Child" and "Reflections" from the later '60s. Have you watched the movie "Standing In the Shadows of Motown" yet? You need to. I'm surprised that reaction channels like yours haven't delved deeper into Motown. They were a HUGE influence in the '60s, and probably the most important influence in R&B music history beyond the world of jazz.
Congratulations for discovering the Motown gem. The man you hear singing is the great Johnny Bristol. Story goes during rehearsal Johnny was singing along directing how he wants the song to go. The Supremes said we will not record that song unless, you Johnny Bristol sings with us in the recording studio just the way you are right now. The rest is history...
I love the Supremes and this my favorite song but they have some many others..thanks guys..loving all your reactions..you guys are awesome I said it before but I'm going say it again, I'm so glad I found yall.!!!❤✌
Lots of fun with this era of music... So many to explore Couple other 50s/60s girl groups to check out.. The Chantels "Maybe," The Shirelles "Tonight's the Night", The Crystals "And Then He Kissed Me," The Bobbettes "Mr. Lee".... Have Fun!
The go down in history as The Best Girl ever to do it. Diana Ross and the Supremes sang alot with the Temptations also Diana Ross did duets with Marvin Gaye.
This is Motown at its finest. First the wonderful vocals from the Supremes, backed by the Funk Brothers, and with background vocals from other Motown artists.
Oh man, I was a young girl growing up in a small town in northern Idaho in the 60’s. The hours I spent sprawled across my bed listening to the Supremes double blue album on my record player. sigh… It was them alternated with The Beatles. I knew every song on both. 😊 This really took me back. Thanks. 🙏🏼
I believe they ironically sang this on The Ed Sullivan Show just before their breakup. Florence Ballard had a little- known but great post Supremes song called Love Ain't Love.
It was the 70's and I was home sick from school. My older brother had this album and I was told never to touch his records, but I couldn't resist. I was jamming out way too long and didn't keep my eye on the time! Lol I looked out the window with him coming down the street that I tried to hurry up to get the record off that I scratched the whole record.. needless to say I survived..hehehe
