Yeah these mics are incredible, I reviewed one too. It’s now my go-to for anything where I can have the mic in shot. I’m hoping they make a shotgun mic in the future as this tone beats my 416!
This microphone sounds amazing. Adam, would it be possible to upload audio files of the microphone with its FET and Tube settings? As RU-vid doesn't do it justice.
The amazing thing to me is the combination of audio quality and versatility. Compared to the CAD/Ethos/MKH416 the LCT 1040 still sounds like it's on another plane of existence, but it's not like those mics sound bad by comparison. When you add in the variable pickup patterns, tube sound, and having wet/dry mix outputs though... it's like why even buy another mic if you're setting up a vocal booth or recording space? You could do basically anything you'd ever need with this mic. Really feels like Lewitt are the mic company to beat across the whole price gamut these days and the LCT 1040 is just the tip of their crown. I hope they don't treat this like a boutique product and keep developing new versions to see if they can get the cost down or maybe offer a range of similar mics with different control panels and options. Maybe a FET-only version with multiple opamps, a tube-only version that lets you swap in vintage tubes, an instrument version design for high SPL, etc. I get the sense they're sitting on a goldmine of possibilities with this system and I can't wait to see what else they do with it.
Omg. This is epic. Tube mics can definitely make it sound really great especially when you push them real good after they warm up. Man, I want to try one of these or so badly lol 😅
Very great review Epos as always. It was interesting to watch your comparisons to other mics. Lewitt mics are typically quite bright to the ear, but the LCT 1040 isn't bad in that regard. The LCT 440 pure I would say is an exception, didn't think it was THAT bright. One interesting thing with this mic is that it's sibling the LCT 940, seems to be half the price, yet sounds nearly as good. You get the ability to swap between Polar patterns, Tube/FET and have a few things including attenuation and an 80hz/100hz roll-off as well in a similar but combined full metal box. But the real killer hear is that this mis is $3600, and that one is $1400. So it would be nice to see a side by side comparison one day if ever you get the chance!
Not gonna lie, I think that the "Saturated" Preset fitted your voice the best. Even tho it is through RU-vid, your voice sounds the cleanest through it with some of that bass that the clear preset is missing imo.
How Review? explore off-axis coloration of hypercardioid, the null of figure-8, distant miking (you only tested it less than a foot from the source), challenging source sounds like high-freuqncy transients, drums, bells, piano, whatever -- this looks like a serious mic with features that would never make any sense for someone using mics in the limited capacity of how you use them. Could we have a video on Loudness Units relative to Full Scale? Not for this microphone, but in general for your audience? Feels like it is something we should all understand and not just dBs.
I mean, products this expensive are designed to last forever, they aren’t fragile lol Could kill a man with this thing and record a chart topping album the next day
Compare it to a Blue Bottle... Should cost 3k for the mic and the standard recording cap and another 3k for the extra caps (or 6k for the mic and full set).
I heard the tube is a step up from previous model but cannot be user serviced but I believe they are rated last a long time so thats good. spoke with someone who ran baritone vocals on a track with it and it was impressive. they let the tube heat up to service light and let it go. smooth as butter. of course its overkill for streaming and best to stick with the usual suspects.. I mean if you have the cash to blow then for sure go for it ha ha!
If that’s true it’s a deal breaker! Tubes can last for decades or just fail like a lightbulb. If the tube becomes noisy and you need to change it your recording session was just put on hold for weeks. Ridiculous!
This is one of those shiny pieces you pull out when you're trying to sell studio time to your basic idiot musician when at the end of the day they'll end up using sm57's for most stuff anyways.
Why have "the best microphone ever" if your audio is subjected to online audio compression software? Why would someone buy this microphone for the internet and not for music?
Because characteristics of a mic aren’t magically removed by compression. Garbage in garbage out. Also the vast majority of music listeners listen over the internet, and with most of them being on Spotify, the compression is pretty bad. So by that logic even music is out!
I believe that testing this microphone to your professional preferences is an excess of form over substance. You are not a singer, and cheaper microphones are enough to stream: D
@@EposVox of course. Which does not change the fact that the Lewitt 1040 is one of the best high-end microphones. And this is what makes me surprised how he found himself with you :) I would like to add that below in the comments you can see the delight of this microphone. And very well. However, I would like to know what% of professional use this microphone will have among commenters. I suspect 90% is stereom. So, super quality, cut later by the streaming audio format. Beautiful: D
I love great audio, but good lord you'd have to already be making a ton of money on your content to be able to justify this. I'm lucky if I can pull a paycheck from Twitch once every two years..
