Damn. Imagine being a jerk to the old dude wesring a pilots jacket and he turns out to be the badass instructing you. I know its the common writing troop but dang.
This film expects be to believe that no one in that bar saw "Topgun" on his jacket? He would be the one getting drinks from every other pilot in the bar.
The way it looks in the clip... they didn't let him pay... they explained the rules to him, then everyone drunk, then they declined his payment and carefully brought him outside before he drunk too much for his old body.
"You, you, you and you. You look out of shape. 20 lap around the base. NOT the depot.. the BASE!! ooooh, we met yesterday ? doesnt ring a bell.. But i am sure a bell was rang" Edit: Thank you for the likes, kind strangers. And a special thank you for your comment, JB III. As a lawyer, I always appreciate when laws or regulations are included in the discussion.
honestly the guy went along with it with a smile the whole time… i think he had fun *edit* no, i did not watch the movie. also i know its maverick, tom cruise, and top gun. i just chose not to mention him by name because i dont really care.
this is oldschool. Those who MAKE the rules tend to have to live by them or have no respect in a setting where obedience means life (even if it's not your own) and trust is the most valuable currency that exists. Had Maverick walked out those randoms wouldn't have been swearing at themselves the next morning they would have been jeering.
@@XxLeCaptainxXi find it hard to believe though .. i against war tbh... The US millitary do have covert ops around the world since then ,against Cuba , USSR, Afghan , Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, North Korea , Chi na etc..
@@XxLeCaptainxXYeah, that is blatantly wrong. Just off the top of my head, there’s: Gulf of Sidra ‘81, Gulf of Sidra 89, Desert Storm, Operation Southern Watch, Yugoslavia, and the Ja’Din Incident. In all of these events, American Fighter aircraft encountered, and shot down manned, hostile, armed enemy aircraft.
@@semi.g nah he's only good in this movie, and it's because he's an actual pilot (he flies himself a lot actually, he lands at the small airport about 5 minutes from me and then drives about 20 minutes to his mansion just outside if Clearwater, FL which like half the town is owned by scientology)
She didn't _make_ him pay; he _voluntarily_ went along with the rules (social conventions) of that time and place. He also willingly let them toss him out the door. Go along to get along. As a navy captain (O-6), he could have shouted, "Attention!" and ordered them to stop.
I haven’t seen this movie but is this not just a copy of the same scene in the original? Glen Powell in Tom Cruise’s place, Tom Cruise in Kelly Mcgillis’s place
@Shalyn-ln9tu, it was a good theater experience and for tom cruise fans around the world it was a treat ,both the theater experience and Tom's charisma
@@Shalyn-ln9tu some of you say the dumbest sht with no logical thought. Go to imax with Dolby or 4d expierience and watch both movies and you tell me which one is better. I like the force awakens but you're absolutely braindead if you believe what you said.
I have a similar story like this during the ROK service. During summer, we have joint exercises with the Marines. Korean Marine Recon are a pretty cocky bunch (but rightfully so), usually the marines kinda look down on other branches, so when they heard their new infiltration instructor was from the Army, they made jokes and laughed behind his back. Little did they know the instructor was HID. After 2 weeks of training, If you ever seen marines with fear in their eyes when they saw a person, this was the only time I did.
I wasn't Top gun or even anybody important. I was an AT for squadron VS-41 stationed in San Diego in the late 90's. My cousin joined a year earlier, and his ship was docked at the same place I was, He had a car and knew his way around and fun we had. God I miss the Navy. We had so much fun.
It was mainly used as exposition and introduction of the characters. Those scenes tend to have the weakest writing so they can return quickly to the plot.
The hole fucking movie was cringe for dudes that grew up in the 70’s and 80’s to feel like they could have done it but they had something else going on lol
Top Gun is such a good movie series. If you like military movies. Bro is a pure badass through and through. Patient but demanding. Like all good teachers.
Time, and he literally sticked to the same rank for decades. Not many recognize a captain that easily. If he was an admiral like Iceman everyone knows him. But try to distinguish a captain from the many hundreds that have been to Topgun
Why is Maverick being an officer for so many years and without luxuries and only his motorcycle is broken and he doesn't have enough to buy a round for the entire bar?
Bro the first two rules I understand but the third no phone on my bar it’s a bar not day care and the fact that everyone gets around if somebody breaks the rules and people don’t even know about it it’s just a excuse to get more drunk like bro get some help
@@Henry-jv4bb faking a declined card may or may not be illegal i have no idea, having dumb traditions definitely isn't tho. They didn't force him to do anything, he went along with it because he was a good sport. Phyaically throwing him out witout asking politely first is probably illegal aswell. But no one would actually care since they didn't go overboard. And in the end he saved some money.
This movie is absolutely beautiful and amazing....as a fighter pilot's daughter I think I can say that the movie has been exceptionally made..The original top gun was even better
Damn she gets hotter with age, I remember her 1st movie, I believe it was Rocketman set in wwii Alan Arkin was in it, too. Oh, reason no one recognized him is they may know someones call sign, but they might not know what they look like
Camaraderie is a key component in team building and instructing, especially in an environment where egos and testosterone are matched with intelligence and skill sets.
Yep. They know each other. She was mainly messing with him for fun. She unplugged the machine so she could have him thrown out... and so he had to come back to pay the bill some other time when the bar wasn't packed.
Isnt it weird that none of the pilots recognise the only american ace pilot since ww2 (or was it vietnam?) Like surely top gun school would go over why he was good and how he did his stuff
Loved the movie, kind of stupid scene. If a room full of young Naval Aviators (all officers) see an older Naval Aviator (noted by his flight jacket and aviator wings), they know beyond doubt that he outranks them. They may not like him, they may not even know him, but they would NEVER call him “Pops” or “Old Timer”, and NEVER lay hands on him. Banter with and hazing of seniors only occurs within a unit, not between units, and only after the senior establishes what he(or she) will tolerate and allow. We’ve hazed and gone drinking with our officers, but only after the limits of the relationship were fully understood and respect was established. I had a sister SEAL platoon with a prior-enlisted officer (they’re usually the worst) that was terrible. I told my counterpart, their senior enlisted, “haze him”. He said their “O” would punish every man that participated. I got him on his platoon’s behalf, though. Our 2 platoons engaged in an impromptu snowball fight once and he participated (that’s tacit permission for a snowball to the face, which he got). He then tried to tackle me (again, tacit permission to get his face rubbed in snow, which he got). I still might have hesitated if he were my Officer (that’s how petty he was), but he didn’t sign my evals, and my Officers were also participating. That’s the only reason I felt safe laying hands on an Officer that wasn’t mine. He engaged first, in front of my Officers.
@@divebombexpert2619 not only can you still wear the jacket, you can still wear the uniform. When you serve 20+ yrs you retire to the ready reserve. You can be recalled at any time, for life. I wore my dress blues to my daughter’s boot camp graduation after I retired. And they still wouldn’t be disrespectful to an old retired senior unless he was rude to them first.
She was the problem to start with . It's basically stealing his money to falsely say his card is declined in hopes to force him to buy more drinks for people . That's how you find yourself loosing your business
