They Told Me It Would Heat My Whole House!!

Last fall I did my research and made a big investment in a Central Boiler Classic Edge 760 Outdoor Wood Boiler. I was promised that it would heat my home and all of our hot water needs as well as burn up to 60% less wood versus my old outdoor wood boiler. Has it met my expectations this winter?

Your microphone is impressive! Standing in sideways blown snow and it sounds like you're recording in a booth!

LP for cooking and as a backup heat source. We have a wood furnace and love it. Will be starting to block and split next year's wood soon. Glad your furnace is working out good. God bless and protect.

Glad it’s working out for you. We created a lean to on the side of a shed and put a clear roof on it to help dry the wood- it works great.

Glad to see wood boiler tech improving. My issue is I have 5 acres but not enough woods to supply one. Most boilers seem to use 6-10 cords of wood how much would you say you've gone through

I think this unit is fine for someone young, meaning under 65-70+. As seniors, no way could we go through all you do to keep your home warm not to mention the endless amount of wood you have. Good for you though. Very happy it's working well for you & your family. 🔥🏡

Bought 16x20 carport when they were reasonable (2014) put the boiler underneath it and vented it thru the roof. Store wood on one side of it and log splitter on the opposite side. Works great! I can get 3-4 cords stored under the roof.

We just built a new home here in Southern Ontario, Canada. Installed a bosch cold climate 3ton heat pump. The heat pump adds about $120 a month to the hydro bill. We have propane as well for the furnace, but other than the few -30*C nights here, it hardly ran on propane, and we have not had a single propane fill since the tanks were installed last October. The heat pump was approximately $10,000cad but well worth it when propane is $1 a liter here..

Nice follow up vid 👍 Still haven't pulled the trigger on a wood boiler yet. Totally get the propane truck angst you described!

For a quick cover: I stack cut+split wood onto pallets and use 6x8 and 6x20 16mil tarps from Xpose held down by Cartman flat bungees. Tarps last 3-4 years or so, bungees less (but you can likely find better stuff). I have tried roofing rubber, and it works great and will last indefinitely, but it is a bit heavy to work with. I lean a pallet on the cover at the end of the stack (not cribbed) to help hold it in the wind. I've had luck with all this, wood stays fairly dry and snow free. 'til ya get something permanent, that is (which I'm not - this works for me). Guessing I burn 3-5 cord per season, give or take, in a wood stove heating about 2300 sq ft to 64F. Great content, btw. Thanks!

Oh my goodness! (Thank you for your patience with my comment.) You know the very most critical variable in your (system) is the water content of the "fuel." One aspect of the "physics" around "gasification" is that water will not burn no mater how hot. It just changes to steam. Moisture (water) retention in red oak is another conversation (white oak not so much). Anyway I have both a shed roof over one wood pile and an elaborate tarp arrangement/ support over and around another pile. Two year drying time is amazing. MMMm also (I gotta ask) do you have some of that "weldable" metal framing that comes from China with the snowmobiles and ATV's that are shipped over? Maybe behind you while you're talking. Looks just like some rails that I built for my trailer. MMM??? Just wondering. Thank you for all that you do and I appreciate anyone who shares on You Tube. Very much! ✨✨☘☘☘☘✨✨ ~ from here at the Epsom Traffic Circle ~ (nahampsha)

You can make a great woodshed with cattle panels and plastic tarp. I use one. You can make it as long as you need, 8ft wide, 6’tall with 2by 10 ground boards to give the 6’ height.

Wow, you're at 300k....that is SOO awesome!!! Congrats!! My father in law has a boiler and says it's the best!!! We decided to get a new wood fireplace insert this past fall. VERY happy we did that. We have used propane but about half of what we used last year. I was surprised when your video popped up for me to see. It made my day. I'm going to have to see if my notifications are off. I remember you using the boiler at the old farm. Now that you have been at this place for awhile...which place are you happier living at? Have a great evening. Greetings from Wisconsin. Karen 🙂

Thanks Karen. There are certainly things we kiss about the farm, like the hay fields. But here we have been much happier with the house and the amount of hardwoods available to heat with!

I think you should keep the propane tank. It’s not bad to have a backup.

Yeah we have propane as main source and wood stove as Supplement. With wood stove it adds 40 degrees to whatever it is outside. It works well many days by itself but with -20 temps…sometimes it needs propane help.

Having such a large amount of woodland and with clearing land for other uses do you ever plant any trees back to grow either for aesthetic or to maintain the woodland for the future?

Good evening, Brother. What do you do if the power goes out? I can't remember if you talked about that in a previous video. I'm originally from Waterford Township, but now live on the tropical island of Guam USA. Here, cold A/C is the only thing we worry about (coldest recorded temp was 69 deg!) Glad to see your investment of the new boiler is working out for you! I pray for God's continued blessings. 🙏

Good to hear you are satisfied with your CB 760. All I hear is they are terribly expensive and hard to keep running clean. Without telling us exactly what you paid for your unit maybe you could show some data and estimate your pay back period (cost vs savings). I am burning wood in an older CB 6048 now going on 17 seasons and wonder if I will buy another unit or just face the reality that I'm not getting any younger.
@SSLFamilyDad
@SSLFamilyDad Год назад
This one with the unit, delivery, and all the valves, fittings, electric, etc. was almost $20,000. The smaller unit is about $15000. So if I were to pay $5000 per year in propane it pays for itself in 4 years

I bought my 760hdx in 2021 boiler 16k and pipe and parts 5k. Then received 26 percent back from federal tax credit. I used 5000 dollars of propane per winter before boiler. So 3 year payback for me, well worth it.

I've got the older 750HD. I've ran a variety of wood in batches to test my theorys. IMO 98% + of all the issues you here about on gassers are due to green or wet wood. As you burn dryer wood they run better, burn less wood and run much cleaner. I dont burn any thing with an average (cut the wood in half, measure the inside and average with the outside) above 16%. My in season cleaning is negligible if I stay below that. I lit mine Oct 24 this year. Hasn't stopped since.

Glad you have had good luck with your 17 year old 6048 mine is a 5648 it’s 18 years old, I use the right chemicals and ash trol, never had any problem out of it other than one actuator motor for the door, and just yesterday the taco 0010 pump after 18 years of service gave up. Had an extra one a taco 009 and back up and running, I would prefer steel instead of the titanium enhance stainless steel, but central boiler no longer uses mild steel
