Mom says if you commit a crime you have to pay reparations, and that’s true. But if my grandfather committed a crime, I have no responsibility to pay reparations. That’s where the analogy falls apart. Tom is saying in the song that there is no generational guilt that has to be atoned for.

I disagree with Mom. I'm not responsible for society's decisions. I didn't choose to be born in this society, and there is no way to live outside of society. You want reparations? I'm of Irish descent, my people were slaves. I don't want reparations. I want you to stop looking down on me because my people were slaves. I want you to see me for me. I want you to see the diversity of our culture and appreciate what we've brought to the table. If you want an enemy, it's the Government. Not the citizens.

Exactly this. Based on this idea of reparations, does this mean that Germans have to "take accountability" for N@zis, when they weren't one, and it's pretty much agreed upon that what they did was absolutely wrong? No, of course not. German citizens aren't N@zis, so why would they have to take accountability for it? I've seen this idea of white people having to pay reparations ironically create more divide and more racism coming from both sides. A lot of black people being supported by left feel like they're obligated to reparations from white people, and they get upset when white people say no. Then you have white people that say "No why do I owe a debt for something I didn't cause and wasn't a part of?". Then they start to grow distain for people that say this, often times blacks and liberals, and it just creates even more of a divide in our culture. I feel like the idea of reparations, and equity in general (Certain races having an easier time getting into college, etc.), is in and of itself very racist. It's the idea of "You're XYZ race, we know that you are in a worse situation than the whites over here, so we're going to make it so you don't have to be as smart to get into college!" without ever looking at you individually. So a black person that makes the same amount as a white person and is in the exact same living situation gets the handout. "You're XYZ race, so you must need help" is extremely racist. It's like saying "We know you can't do this on your own, just because of your race, so we're going to make it easier for you!" This would be different if it was based on income or the area you live in. Then the white people that are also in the impoverished areas would get the same assistance of getting into college. But no, they only choose certain races and minority groups. If it was about equality, they would care about everything living in bad conditions, not just certain races.

Hey! It’s great you hold this view. Is it possible someone in your similar familiar position could hold the opposite view? Who would be right or wrong then? @@christinafrees course she can have a different view. Though logically she is not understanding reperations will only make the situation worse. That and figuring out who will fund such or get reperations is impossible. Same people who get government money will simply pay it back through taxes. @@jasonmarkwell8593what is your thoughts about the "illegals " migrates receiving funding from your American social security and social services system? What about the Holocaust people that get millions from American on a regular? Ukrainians, American is funding their way of life thanks to the Joe Biden Administration. We are funding every group that is coming up through the Northern and Southern border. America is now sending hundreds of millions to Netanyahu to support him and his war! Bbbuuuttt, there is a problem for the American system to pay the debit that is owed to the black American people that have been brutalized, hunged, raped, stole and destroyed their economic system. I don't have to go through all the history. I don't understand the logic? "We" you and me, are not over there fighting in the Ukrainian war, just like you personally did not have anything to do with slavery. We were not back there during the Holocaust and did not have anything personally to do with their genocide. But they are taking our money and giving it to them. (Which I do not understand that logic because that War was fought and done in Nazi Germany). If America would take the sanctions off the South American and all the countries and them on and help their countries rebuild their economics, and send the people home there would be no need for them to break through America's borders. I would really like to know your thoughts. Please think of the hypocrisy before replying. Think!! 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

BeBe Netanyahu where is he spending it and whose really getting the money? The BORDER people all those thousands of people squandering the money on motorbikes and etc.? BeBe gets it twice because he's over the Holocaust "alleged" Jewry. So where is the concern about just these groups, and the money they are and have been receiving? Mom seems to get it exactly, but as a white person with a mixed family I now disagree with reparations after listening to my Black Family members. They too are against reparations. Your mom seems to have a very kind heart but her emotions are being manipulated by demons in society. But I agree with everything else she was saying. Sorry, Mom...I completely disagree with you on many levels. I have personally seen & experienced black privilege over white privilege as well as the reverse. I'm not referring to 50-60 years ago, rather the last 20. I'm 100% against reparations! Black people were not the only slaves and not all black people are descendants from slaves. There were very few slave owners, some of which were also black. Most people today are not descendants of slave owners. So should every black person get reparations regardless if they were a descendant of a slave, paid for by individuals who's ancestors never owned any slaves? Should every person complete their genealogy, regardless of race, to see if their ancestors were slaves? Such a slippery slope. Slavery was & STILL is a horrific stain on this world (not just America & still happening around the world today). No reparations for anyone!

All I can say is racism was on life support until the Obama Presidency. We all had high hopes he would deliver us from the final crumbs of racism and he unfortunately ended up throwing fuel on the fire. Now, with the Leftists push, there is a growing acceptance of racism towards white people. Morgan Freeman said it best when he was asked how we end racism, "STOP TALKING ABOUT IT". Simply be respectful & treat everyone as you want to be treated.

I can absolutely appreciate a difference of opinion though. It's good to have these conversations, because otherwise there can never be understanding. I agreed with quite a bit of what your mother said, but not everything. But it's okay to disagree, because I feel like at the end of the day we all want the same thing. We just might disagree on how we get from point A to point B. Hearing people disagree with you or have different opinions than you can honestly be difficult. It's hard to keep an open mind and actually try and see it from different views. I think it's healthy if we all do more of this.

I refuse to take the blame or responsibility for anyone who isn't me. If you didn't do the crime why should your pay the time? This is what trips me out with people that support reperations. 1st, reperations come from taxes. That means if we as a society give blacks money, some of that money is coming from other blacks. That means taxes rise. That means blacks in part are paying other blacks. 2. Nobody paying increased taxes was responsible for slavery. 3. When does it stop? Do we only pay reperations to blacks alive now? What about blacks born tomorrow? Or the next day? What about kids born 5 or 10 years later. Everyone loves to talk about reperations but nobody talks about how it would acually work without the country going broke

Question? Please reply!! Why, when it comes to Reparations for black people, Americans feel they weren't there and should not be responsible? Bbbuuuttt, when they speak of the Holocaust it's not a problem to send them Reparations and none of us was there back then, and did not have anything to do with the Holocaust, also it was fought in Nazi Germany, bbbbuuuttt American paid Reparations to them and send them money on a regular. Now you have Ukraine, the Boarder people and so on and so on getting "Reparations" in the form of taxpayers dollars your social services benefits, social security benefits and so on. It's more than America that owes for the enslavement of black people. I DO NOT AGREE With GUILTING people for who they are!!!! Love yourself!!!! Solving everyone's suffering sounds great mom, the problem is life is suffering, it's literally defined by suffering so what you want to do is put us all in a round room and tell us to go piss in the corner....there is no corner, and you can't escape suffering. What you can do is teach a person to fish so they can forever feed themselves. instead of indoctrinating all this division into our kids minds, how bout indoctrinating their minds with the knowledge, know how, wisdom to make good plans and make good decisions to lead to the best life they can live. Like Obama said and had been shown to be true in multiple studies, even if you're born in poverty, you can escape that by, FINISHING SCHOOL, GET A JOB AND DONT LEAVE UNTIL YOU HAVE ANOTHER JOB, DONT MAKE BABYS UNTIL YOUR MARRIED AND AT LEAST 25YRS OLD, DONT GET IN TROUBLE WITH THE LAW. People who don't do these things are 20% AT LEAST more likely to end up dead or in prison. People who do these things are over 80% likely to NOT go to prison and NOT die in poverty....

@@christinafreesat 13 mins and 50 seconds you said "we have to figure out a way to solve everyone's suffering". That was why I responded in this post. One day you will pass on and your children will suffer the loss. Life is full of suffering. The best we can do is help each other teach each other how to make it through the suffering by adopting as much responsibility as we can for ourselves, our family, our community, thereby finding the meaning and purpose in our lives so when the storms come, and trust me, they will come but we will make it through the sufferings. We can't just solve suffering, that's all I was saying. I did enjoy your reaction 👍

You need to take away pause privilege away from Mom until she hears the entire song. Perhaps on the second go round would be a better place for her to speak on what the song actually id talking about. I think she leans too far on the liberal side to truly listen more than speak to these topics. Nothing against mom, keep doing this because talking about it is how we fix it. Her knee jerk reactions to stand up for a cause or thought pattern before she even hears it through and digests it isn't the way to have informed dialog. Also if you have white guilt or experience white privilege it may be because you're wealthy, most normal white folks do not experience this.

I think We are all responsible for our own lives, everyone os the same ,yes everyone is unique and acknowledging slavery was wrong is something that needs to be done . However dwelling on the past and saying white people should pay reparations for things that no one alive today lived with is ridiculous. I am not feeling guilty for something i didn't do . If you don't want to learn history your doomed to repeat so everyone needs to be treated equal and take "race" out of it . Pushing white privilege and white guilt is part of the problem, that makes white people feel hated. We are all equal we all bleed red #HOGARMY #ACAL #NOVA

You all are loosing your 💩 about reparations. Some sensitive peeps in this comments section. First - RELAX (I don’t owe anyone anything crowd). Second - The effects of slavery are at play today in the US. That’s the problem! It’s not ancient history. Third - it’s called different opinions for a reason - because they’re DIFFERENT. Stand down crazy town.

Also, this is the problem. People can’t stand someone who thinks different than they do. There’s no ability to tolerate differences. My god we have a lot of weak, me, me, me people running around incapable of accepting that not everyone thinks like you. It’s emotionally immature to think everyone needs to think like you do.

I'm pretty sure the expansion of the welfare state in the 1960s is playing a far greater part in what is going on today than slavery. You should look up the stats and see how well Blacks did from the abolition of slavery until the 1960s. It's a story of almost nothing but triumph, despite things being way more racist than they are today. The number of Black children raised in single parent homes then, when things were ridiculously more racist than today, was around 15-20%. Today, it's about 70%, even those we've become far less racist now. How is that explained? Things were harder then, but Blacks were doing much better than they are now. Slavery isn't the cause of that. I'd argue the expansion of the welfare state, explicitly targets toward Black people as a kind of reparations, that basically encouraged broken families had a much bigger role than slavery.

Every race has been through terrible things in history. I can not fell guilty for things that happened centuries ago. Moms missing the point. Yes "we" are all part of society, today's society, not 1865s society. We didn't do anything to anybody and the people who did have been dead now for about a hundred years and "we" aren't the ones who were wronged either, those people have also been dead for about a hundred years. Reparations are not "restitution" which is part of our legal system mom. Reparations have been in place now for 50 years or so with the enactment of affirmative action. Please mom, stop brain washing your child. You are feeding into the division propaganda that Tom and Adam are speaking against here, sad you can't see this😞😞

@@christinafrees ok, you got me on that one👍 I should have done a little research before I put my foot in my mouth. On a similar note I would point out that the majority of people you bump into in your day to day life in America are neither descendant of American slaves or slave owners. The majority of people you run into today are descendant from people who migrated to America AFTER the abolishment of slavery in 1865. Just saying the whole reparations narrative isn't legitimate in the least today in America. The supreme Court just shut down affirmative action because it is unconstitutional but it has been in place for fifty years or so, so the whole narrative is just a tool to keep Americans divided, easier to manipulate us that way. Thanks for setting me straight on the legality issue though, I do respect and appreciate that👍
@christinafrees
@christinafrees 10 месяцев назад
Affirmative action has nothing to do with what true reparations are. I believe it was another government attempt at separating us and keeping us fighting each other. We have a Caste system in the US that’s rooted in slavery. That system operates today in many ways. Until that is addressed and the systems that are still operating under it are changed we will continue on this journey because nothing has been truly changed or taken accountability for. That’s what true reparations are. The system won’t change so long as those who benefit from it continue to uphold it. I recommend the book and documentary I mentioned in the video. They may help shed some light on the subject. Take care.

Michael Jackson was highly respected due to his wealth and many other wealthy blacks. I taught my kids NOT TO SEE COLOR. That expression originally meant, that while you can see their complexion, you are taught to judge your friends by how they treat you and not on the basis of their physical appearance. Tom is not meaning your meaning of not seeing color. He means it in common sense way, which is you can see cultural difference but they are not the main importance. The main importance is seeing that they are first and foremost a human being just like you. If someone in your family dies, then you will feel grief and loss, and so will any race feel the same. And when your kid achieves something he or she is excited to share with their parents, isn't that universal among children to show their parents that they have talent? That is what is meant when he says that we ARE ALL THE SAME. We may have different styles of cultural experiences, but the basics of being human are the SAME. Men & Women are different and yet it takes EQUAL DNA from both genders to produce a single biological human being. God didn't say 49% for one gender & 51% of the opposite gender to make a baby. No. It is equal parts. So while men & women have different kinds of strength and weaknesses, as a cooperating team, they are the foundation of the family unit (and that goes for all races). So in that context, men & women are equal in God's eyes. It's embedded by our physiological design that it take both genders to make a human so both are genetically contributing to the continuity to the human species as a whole. For without their equal genetic contributions, there is NO HUMANITY AT ALL. So women & men are the essence of homo sapien sapien. We need to see that what is important BEYOND cultural variations of experiences is that WE ARE OUR SPECIES, not just our race. And if we keep on concentrating on differences, then we overlook the fact that we all bleed red and we all turn into bones in the end. But the main thing is our SOUL HAS NO COLOR BUT THEY ALL WEIGH EXACTLY 21 GRAMS! I was once evaluated by a marriage counselor who was also a psychologist. I shared my upbringing story with her. And she told me that I had beaten astronomical odds because of all the violence I witnessed as a 6 yr old, I should have been a statistic of ending up either as a victim or in prison. Instead I had achieved a lot and raised two children. Was married for 17 years. Husband was a Vietnam Vet with PTSD and was causeing trauma for our children so he moved out after 17 years. I'm a widow now, but I'm in good mental health (no depression or anything). I learn to overcome depression after giving birth, but I did it without meds. People tend to take out of context the messages in songs. Not seeing color was a good thing when it was first brought up. It simply meant not treating others who look different or speak differently with less respect than any other human being. That is what the context Tom was saying it. If you listen carefully to the entire verse about not seeing color, you will notice that he was saying that he was raised to respect ALL people. But of course that doesn't mean you become a doormat either (let's not jump to the opposite extreme). Communication can be confusing when people don't want to understand the message but want to argue with the message. To further prove that that is what Tom meant, then why don't you check out his track called BLACK & WHITE featureing Tom, Adam & Dax. Dax is Canadian born and was friends with Tom before Tom moved to California and became a naturalized American citizen (and Dax is American now too). They were long time buddies. And Tom fell on hard times with Nova and they lived in the black ghetto of L.A., Calif. (*Side note: I was born and raised in Los Angeles CA too).And for 20 years, I too lived in the black ghetto (say "black" because other races have ghettos too). So I'm no spectator about all of this race stuff. I have lived what I'm talking about. Although I never was beat up or injured. Because of how I wisely dealt with living there. plus, it was street-smartz-intelligence that made me survvie (and gain wisdom). Tom asked some people in the hood who he was friends with (he was the ownly white guy there) to hel him do a video called IF I WAS BLACK. You really should see that before you watch BLACK & WHITE. Your mom should see both of those tracks: IF I WAS BLACK and BLACK & WHITE. Then you can't think that Tom doesn't understand the differences, he's not blind. He is friends and respectful dispite superficial differences. And all human God gave a SOUL, and God said that EVERY RACE SHALL HAVE A SOUL (thereby proving that God viewed all human DNA to be the same). There is scientific measurable PROOF THAT WE HAVE A SOUL and you don't have to assume or believe it. Around the world medical examiners weigh dying people before & after they pass. And every human being loses EXACTLY 21 GRAMS UPON THEIR DEATH. That proves that the weight that is lost upon death is the weight OF THE SOUL. ALL SOUL WEIGHT ARE CREATED EQUALLY THE SAME. Why did God make it that way, to demonstrate that beyond your flesh body, you are a HUMAN SOUL, and that is the reason to be respectful and let ALL PEOPLE SPEAK THEIR MINDS, and NO race should be singled out to be shamed and made to feel inferior to another race. But the wealthy rulers have done this to humanity. But it is human beings who must become aware of how they are being mentally tricked and stop falling for it by not seeing color. And I already thoroughly explain what context I mean that in. Now, technically I'm called a "Mulatto", which is a mixed race, making up of both Black and White, where the blood lineages are quite close together percentage wise. And I refuse to allow anyone to dictate to me that I am a black person or a white person; I'm neither & both at the same time. When you mix the colors of black & white, you don't get white or black you get grey which is a hybid like myself (that is what a Mulatto is). Yet when I was a child/student, kids tried to pressured me into identifying either my black side or my white side. I consider to make a choice about which side I liked better would be a self-betrayal. So I won't betray my bloodlineage which contains black & white, it is what it is. So yeah, it is NOT A RACE WAR (behind the scenes). Actually, it's an Ego-tripping group of wealthy Eletists secretly preying on our species as modern-day pirates trying to take everything for their tiny group, and leave the rest of humanity high and dry. So it's in their plans that they've written books and told us about. But people ignore it or think that they won't dare try to pull it off. Well they are doing it in our faces everyday. Thats why we've been invaded by illegals who are taking over the American economic resources and causing big decreases, drastically.Something is seriously wrong in America. Race division is a psychological misdirection so that we won't get wind of what the super rich are really doing to all of us (all reaces). Thank you.

There's another context of "not seeing color" can convey. For instance there are differences, but deep down we are ALL HUMAN BEINGS WHO GO THRU PAIN, GRIEF, MISFORTUNE. Plus the white race has been generalized as being "privileged". Well so are some blacks. My biological mother is white & my father is black. I was raised in BOTH CULTURES, and I've experienced prejudice coming from both sides. And I was always being pressured into choosing which side I feel closest (black or white) . I told them neither, because it took EQUAL amounts of DNA chomosomes from my father & mother. And I was bullied for it. But I never back down and told them what they wanted. Plus, when they claim that blacks have it so bad here in America. I challenge anyone to name and show evidence of a single female black billionaire in any other country besides America. I'm not a fan of Oprah's, but she worth 3+ Billion Dollars. Also there are MORE BLACK MILLIONAIRES in America than anywhere in the world. So apparently there are privileges for black people. And whenever a black person is killed, the media makes a BIG DEAL about it. But whenever whites are in the same situation, the media ignores it and acts like it's not happening. Candice Owens shared stats that there are more whites being shot by cops than blacks. Plus we have to take into consideration that the white population is larger than blacks. But still, my main point is that the media has an agenda to stir up anger in blacks towards whites every time a black person is shot by a white person. Candice also mentioned that she shared the stats on black-on-black violent crimes, and the figures were super high. YET, the media either plays that down or ignores that factor altogether. Because they want black people focused on thinking that they have no responsibilty for being violent toward their fellow black neighbor. And just blame everything on white people all the time. I got fed up with it. Now, I also recently found out the there were black slave owners of white people. And that was deliberately ommitted from tthe school system's curriculum so that people would think that there were ONLY WHITE SLAVE OWNERS in American early history -- not true. In fact, Thomas Sowell has documentaries on the first slave owner in America. He was black and his name was Anthony Johnson ( c. 1600 - 1670) was an Angolan-born man who achieved wealth in the early 17th-century Colony of Virginia - the first slave owner in the U.S. by civil suit. And did you also know that there were WHITES SLAVES in America (and some were owned by black people). So it has NEVER BEEN ABOUT COLOR - IT'S ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT ECONOMIC CLASS WEALTH division, period There have always been poor disadvantaged whites, blacks, mexicans and most all races. And each race has been looked down upon by the wealthy of their own race. I learned that for most of human history SLAVERY has existed. The British were the first to abolish slavery in their country as their law. Then France abolished it in the legal structure and then America. To this day, in South Africa slavery exists and is legal. We were lied to when they said Europeans invaded Africa to capture slaves. That was impossible because at that time, there was no cure for malaria. And when the Europeans entered Africa they could not stay long without dying. So they couldn't have hunted them down. No. Instead, the Africans sold their black slaves to the European slave traders. Cherokee Indians were slave owners of captured rival Naitve tribes (and some were cannibalistic). I saw a documentary that showed where the enslaved indians who were being eaten by the tribe of indians. So they asked the European explorers to help set them free, and they did. You see they want to only tell one side of our human history so that we the masses will think that one group had it worse than another. The Irish were slaves in this country and also Indians had Irish slaves. They never expose these things so that people will think how they think, which is one group had privilege over another. I heard these facts from older black people who knew the real truth about slavery. In the beginning of all slavery, it was always about THE HAVES vs. THE HAVE NOTS (no matter the ethnicity).
