sounds like a setup to a crazy story..The way you start has nothing remotely relatable to the second line. It's a comedy method, ..i just cant think of the name of it.
Done something like that around Lancaster Texas with my son with me. Took the exit West instead of East on 35E. I knew I wasn't lost for a long time until I couldn't find my exit and I had gone too far to turn around. My son convinced me to head back no matter how much time I had waisted going the wrong way. It was a grey over cast day so I couldn't see the sun. That was around 2007. I told my son about Sea Hunt and Lloyd Bridges telling us viewers, to remember "never panic."
Ha, Ha. That was one great story Claus. I will be sending that around to my friends. The drama! When you got caught in that "Welcome to the U.S." line I had to listen to the rest because I thought you were done for. Ha, Ha.

CLAUS!!!! You are da man! i love these mishap stories bc things like this do happen. I remember my dad made a wrong turn in Washington D.C. and we were going the wrong way down a road of vehicles heading right for us. My mom yelled at him telling him his error and my dad tells her to be quiet he is going the right way and everyone else is wrong..hahahahahah. the police finally set him straight after he explained what he did and they let him go without a ticket
Reminds me when I once came to a small southern german town called "Weil am Rhein". It sits directly in a triangle with Switzerland and France. It was late in the evening in the early 2000s and i was in a search for a petrol station to buy some beer, before searching for a nightquarters. Navigation systems hardly existed back then and so I searched for the most bright and well lit place, anticipating this place would most likely be a petrol station. That made me first run into the swiss border and a few minutes later after turning around into the french border. I didn´t manage to get some beer on that day, anymore.

Lived in beautiful Thunder Bay for 10+ wonderful years,. Can confirm, well-made Trans Canada highways running through the area, with a myriad of unexpected dirt roads shooting off to everywhere, and nowhere. Enjoyed your story Claus, a relatable adventure indeed.
OMG, I did the exact same thing trying to get the Ferry to Vancouver Island. Had just flew in from Ontario and this was before google maps so was going by signs. Ended up at Washington border pulled a U turn and ended up in line to get back into Canada. They go at you hard turning around because they think you chickened out bringing illegal stuff into the US. They don't give you any warning you are aproaching the border.
The same thing happened to me. I accidentally crossed the border to Oman from the United Arab Emirates. I did a u-turn when I realized my error. There was a border office going back into the uae. They were very nice. But, it still took a long time. Claus, get some help. p.s. love your WOT show.

I drove back to Edmonton last summer and yes i had to watch the small signs very carefully using the gps leaving Thunder Bay, even to get toward Kenora. Even the next turn 50 km away i had to read the sign very carefully.
I live below you in New Hampshire. We walk over the border into Canada on a daily basis and vice versa :D I see many Canadian couples out for a walk, also me and my boyfriend do it aswell
Sorry but this just made me think of you driving through farmer's field in your ELC Even-90 and not getting spotted after leaving your initial "spotting" bush. Your head sticking out of the turret singing like John Travolta...hilarious story. I hope the rest of your trip gets even better!!!
My favourite bit was “I’m very careful, going the speed limit as I don’t have any insurance” followed by “I’m doing things on the straight and narrow” - yeah right, all of it except illegally driving without insurance 😂
I was coming back from the west coast and traveling through the Rocky Mountains. My 1971 Fury III was loaded to the gills with all of my belongings, I even had to tie the trunk down because it wouldn't shut it was so full. It was late at night and foggy and I was negotiating the bends in the road carefully, as there was a sheer drop off on one side that disappeared into oblivion. I saw yellow eyes glowing on the side of the road ahead. I slowed but kept going. Suddenly the road curved straight for those eyes and I realized the biggest dog I'd ever seen wasn't on the side of the road...he was in the middle of it! I hit the brakes, but only slid on the wet road towards the guard rail and the sheer drop off! I let go of the brakes to regain control and veered back onto the road, hitting the dog. My car was so loaded down it barely had 6 inches of clearance underneath. The dog rolled under the car and I could hear all kinds of things tearing loose as the car jumped like it had hit a speed bump. I got stopped on the shoulder and surveyed the damage. The dog was hamburger meat and fur, my trunk had popped open and my belongings were scattered along the road and my muffler had been torn off and had disappeared, probably sliding off that sheer drop into oblivion! I gathered everything up and retied the trunk lid down just as a trucker stopped to see if I was okay. I told him what happened and he said I should follow him, as he had excellent fog lights and could see better than me. So, I followed him. We came upon some road construction with a detour. Because I was behind this big truck, I didn't see the sign that pointed towards my destination and followed him instead. We ended up in a small town at 6:00 am and I was officially lost. The fog was gone and the truck had turned into a business, so I went on into town. Remember, my muffler was gone, so that 383 V8 was announcing my arrival long before I got there. I passed by a cop on the side of the road and hoped he was asleep. If he was, my blaring V8 woke him up and he got behind me. He pulled me over and I got to explain my adventure again. Luckily he was a nice guy and I followed him to a muffler repair shop where we sat there talking and drinking his coffee until the owner showed up. We all parted having been enriched by each other's company and I had a Rocky Mountain adventure story to tell my grand kids and share with others. That was 50 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday!
