As far as a story goes my wife's dad is 89 years old and lives a long way away from us(my wife told him not to move but he did anyway;now he regrets it).Well we go as often as we can and the big thing for him is when his daughter cooks for him. He eats anything you put in front of him but trying to get him to tell us what he wants is like pulling teeth. We usually go through a hour ordeal of questioning him.Its like 2 cops questioning a suspect i even set up a light in front of him one day as a joke before we started the inquisition

Be happy that you still have your parents. My father is 80 and completely demented after the 9th stroke and can no longer talk. But when I show him a few old questionnaires from the driving school he smiles. He was a driving instructor in Germany from 1964 to 2010. But he can't cook at all anymore, although he could do it ecelently. I wrote down his recipe for deer with bacon, red wine sauce and homemade dumplings and cook it for him every now and then.

It's hard to laugh, hits too close to home. It's stories like this that I couldn't watch Everyone Loves Raymond. I went to visit family in Italy for the summer after graduating college, upon return they had purchased a Time-Share. 🤦 My lesson that I learned to late was don't ask for what they want, cause your now the parent. My dad's sister turned 100 in February, fortunately she smart as a tack. She says she sleeps well, but keeps waking up, that one threw me for a loop. An amazing dry sense of humour.

My mum has moved in with us after dad passed. She is in her 80's and starting to get senility. Mostly she is fine but then evey so often shes like a child. Winter here so I put the heater on, went away and did something else. I came back 20 mins later and the heater is off. I stoipped and looked at it and asked her about it. I dont know she says and then adds "the TV is off too" They are both on a circuit concrolled by a switch on a power point on the skirting board. I look at the switch which is now in the off position. I asked "who turned of the switch?" She blurts out "it wasnt me!" Of course it was her. There was no one else in the house. Donuts...I bought some (3) the other day for us to have with an afternoon coffee. I showed the to her and my wife and before I could react she grabbed one and scoffed it down like a child. I have lots more tales of strange things she is begining to do. You just have to be understanding and try not to be annoyed. Life is short and life can be tough.

my mom's mental health really went bad very fast, diagnosed with dementia, it got very bad very quick. I think your folks are just at the age where the memory goes and starts doing tricks on you. Maybe hiring a part time care giver to come in wash the dishes and cook a meal? In Bulgaria we have 3 meals a day delivered to old and disabled people, meals on wheels is doing that in the US, IDK about Canada? In Bulgaria it's very nice because they use steel dishes and you just restack them and send it all out they get washed and sanitized with superheated water and steel brushes in a big machine, so old folks don't have to do dishes.
