To those that don’t know these fish have a bad reputation for tasting bad and therefore are not as heavily sought after as crappie and walleye. The first thing you want to do is cut their throats and bleed them completely out by putting them on a stringer and throwing them overboard. Once they are bled out which only takes a minute or two have a cooler handy with iced down water and throw them in. This will also firm up the meat and make them easier to filet. I have a two step process to cleaning these fish. First is the rough filet and then a finishing. I soak the rough filets in mild salt water overnight. Next day I cut all the red meat off the filets and that bony zipper down the center of the filet. By the time you are finished you should have nothing but solid white filets. Follow this process and you’ll have fish just as tasty as any crappie or walleye! 😊

Mr. Bluegill, I enjoy fishing with him every time my friend and I have gone out with him. He puts you on fish and does an excellent job of instructing how to catch fish as well!
