I agree and sure would like to see her included in more of the videos. She needs to learn the chores of a farmer’s wife. My in-laws were farmers and my mother in law did everything but cultivate corn. When I became part of the family I inherited her duties.

She works off of the farm. I do believe he addressed this before very well stating he was marrying a wife not a farm hand. I believe a career off the farm has it's benefits also to their family such as health benefits perhaps.

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable. Busy time finishing up with silage and now off to baling hay. You had big thick hay that you raked ready for baling. More feed for the herd. Nice looking hay guys. Busy time right before harvest starts. Maintenance items on loader tractor I see you and dad did. Important items to keep the tractor running good before harvest time. Harvest is just around the corner. Then it is go time. Thanks for everything Cole. Take care and be safe. Thanks. @MichaelHolloway
@MichaelHolloway 10 месяцев назад
what's 'koicha' - can you just plant that and feed it?
@valleyviewacres9120
@valleyviewacres9120 10 месяцев назад
@@MichaelHolloway it's a weed that likes alkaline soils but its also a pretty nutritious plant for cattle its nick name is "the poor mans alfalfa" if put up in its younger stages it can be pretty comparable to alfalfa, and does pretty decent in dry drought weather. problem with planting it is three fold. You would need to understand you were heading into a drought at the time of seeding. And more importantly you'd have koicha coming up all over the place instead of just the alkaline soils. and finally the achilles heel of koicha if you get to cutting it too late the seeds become poisonous like hairy vetch. And can only contribute somewheres up to......., hell I can't remember if it a third or something much smaller of the cows daily intake. its a great tool that can sure stretch feed but it has its limits.

It's amazing the summer weather we had here in the midwest. The July rains, like you mentioned, gave us a better fall hay crop than June had. We baled up 15% more hay in August than June, go figure. Also for the first time ever, our lilac bush bloomed in September rather than May or June, amazing. Anyways, liked the video, congratulations on the late season hay. I live in a coastal location, known for May Gray & June Gloom (only because they rhyme! It's generally foggy until noon-ish every day, windy until the fog rolls back in around 4.) I rarely get to see the moon, stars, & planets. But the climate is great for cool-weather crops! On an industrial scale...big time!---Do your houses get invaded by the soy bean beetle? Whenever we opened the Farmstead, the little critters were all dead up in the corners of the downstairs rooms. Soy bean field to the South of the house.---Brian, I don't mean to embarrass you, but I love seeing your hair!---I occasionally wonder how involved the older boys where when Cole was little.

My neighbor across the road just cut his fourth cutting of alphalfa. Considering how dry the Winter and Spring was around here, I'm a little shocked at how green Augest and September have been. Usually three good cuttings of alphalfa is a good year. Paradoxically, the corn is yellow and ripening early. One of the neighbors actually harvested his corn headlands. Strange year. Farmer's Almanac says lots of snow this Winter.

WOW that dry stuff around the homestead would REALLY be a fire hazard!! I can't imagine running the rake 40 miles per hour trying to rake the stuff out of the way of a fire. I like how you said that you had not started a fire YET!! Imagine that danger is very REAL.. Thanks again Cole. Great video and I appreciate the narrative, I learn a LOT from that. Like the red stripe indicated end of wrap material. I like facts like that. And the rake jamming up was interesting too. I pay attention.. Stay safe guys..

Did you know, however, you can also, without any additional effort on your part, further better use of the English language by simply pressing the little button on your computer labeled "Spell Checc"? (I probably would have said "Windy Weedy Windrows", but that's for another story). Jack L.

Here is West River, we ended up with two cuttings of hay. I suppose we could do a third, if we wanted to rake the whole field into one windrow (haha). We are blessed this year. Glad to see you getting more hay. Twill be interesting to see the bean and corn yields. Our place in IA still looks good, but lack of rain sure hurt the bottom line for our renter. We sometimes see the moon during the day because it is reflecting light from the sun and it is close enough to Earth to be visible against the blue sky. The moon's orbital cycle also determines when it is above the horizon of Earth, and sometimes it overlaps with the sun's position, making it possible to see the moon during the daytime.

As the days shorten and summer jobs end till next year. A person kinda laments some of those jobs going to the back burner. How many people who have made hay in small squares and mowed them all the way to the peak of the barn with no air flow. That is a badge of honor that few earn anymore. Dang, those were long hot days. But I do sort of miss them. I for sure miss the sounds and smells.
