Nice video Greg. Where do you get all these amazing avocados in November? You must have some friends with quite the collection of avocados. I've heard of Thille but never seen one. Thanks for the history lesson. I love hearing about the history of avocados. Very fascinating to me.
Thanks, Sam. I love the history of these varieties too. And it's fun to make connections between some of the varieties and people involved. The year's really over for me now. Soon, I'll look for early varieties I haven't profiled.
Thille holy mother of Gwen and her progeny. Thank you Nick and Albert and of course the genius Bob Bergh for the legacy he left for us all to enjoy. Video request: how about a history about the surviving duo from the Popenoe collection (and why they are the survivors and the rest seem to have vanished) and the famous offspring Reed then a three way taste test? That would be epic.
Hi Greg, at your convenience, can you do a video on Hellen, it's eating quality, fruit and tree characteristics, variety history, name origin, etc. There is no video on YT on the Hellen. Thanks.
From 0:20 - 0:32, you went through the relatives of Thille, from Hass, Gwen, Lamb to GEM, but stopped with the last one fruit on the NE corner. For many minutes of the video, I was waiting for you to comment on the last fruit. 😇 At 7:07 you removed it. I am puzzled why it was put there in the first place, or its relevancy and context. Thanks for making a video on Thille. There is very little information on this variety. In addition, typically your videos have relatively more depth, fact based, and add value to the knowledge base of avocado.
That was a Walter Hole avocado. I had put it there to show a different type of fruit for comparison but forgot to mention it! Thanks for the kind words.
The leaves of some varieties do smell like anise or licorice when you crush them. Fuerte does. I don't know about Mex. Grande. I don't grow that variety.
