Can we take a moment to appreciate how positive this channel is? How wholesome the comment section is and the nice things that people say to each others? A whole therapy session
YEAHH and the hairstylist i’m not sure what her name is but she never looks in the bad sides of the hair she always says “it’s going to look good” “i can fix it” nothing ever negative i just love the hairstyling community alot
Not in the black community, but I have fine and thin hair. It's a real self esteem struggle! We are bombarded with images if hair models and product advertisements. Many styling tutorials use extensions, telling us our own hair isn't good enough; we need more. Body image isn't only about weight and shape and features, hair is a big boost or a big drag on our confidence.
In some people thin hair CAN indicate something is wrong if your hair wasn’t always thin. I am a living witness. Thank god I checked it out (never hurts to be safe)...ended up Saving my life!
It amazes me how rude and insensitive some hair stylists are, this one girl my daughter went to told her how bad her edges looked and my daughter gave her a bad review and then she tried to get defensive about it, if you are going to say something negative about a client's hair, have the decency to tell them how to FIX IT!! Or fix it yourself!! You're suppose to be the stylist!! I love this lady, she not only is GREAT at what she does, she seems very kind to her clients. You are appreciated Deeper Than Hair!! ❤️
I don't know what's going on with a lot of hairdressers (not talking about Deeper Than Hair, she's kind) -- they can be so arrogant and dismissive like you are some kind of object with no feelings. When in fact you are paying them a lot of money to cut/color your hair to specifications.
I agree the insensitivity is problematic it’s like a doctor telling a patient “oh god! You look so ill!”. It’s unhelpful if patient looks ill be a doctor and help. Likewise a hairdresser shouldn’t point out something negative without also bringing help into equation. Duty of care should run across all fields.
Dang this comment section made me feel so included. I'm a teen and I've always had fine hair. In the last 3 or 4 years it's been a huge insecurity of mine. I'm the only person I know who has thinner hair, so I always feel like the odd one out. I struggle so much with trying to do hairstyles that don't look flat and lifeless. But yalls in the comments are so nice and inclusive, I just wanna stay here and keep reading
As long as you style your hair in a way that defines you, that’s all that matters. My problem with hair was that mine was super thick, like immovable thick. I’ve stopped perming it and locked it, and I’ve never been happier.
Some people just have thinner hair. It may be a medical reason it might just be the way god made them. I think it would be nice if we could get over the idea that thin hair is unhealthy. She has a beautiful head of hair and it turned out AMAZING!!
Thank you for this. I was born this way and nothing that I try works. I’ve never seen anyone with my hair type either. I am doing my part; I just cannot control it
No I’m Dirty Dan I have naturally thinner hair too!! It can be bouncy and beautiful and healthy we all have to find the right products and styles for our hair type that’s all! 💛
I feel like if you have thin hair, just think of the breeze you feel on your scalp on hot days that your thick haired counterparts can feel. Everything has its advantages and downsides.
I'm literally crying. I hate going to the hair dressers because my hair is so thin and they stare at it and always comment on how thin it is. They literally finish cutting my hair in 5 mins 😥
I've been in the same situation. Stylists should never point out something a client is likely insecure about, like "your hair is so thin!" It's so rude. After they say something like that, it doesn't matter how good the haircut is, I'll just remember them insulting me.
My mom had really thin hair. When I got married 28 years ago a girlfriend of mine did my moms hair. I don’t know what she did but when I tell you how gorgeous my moms hair was (God rest her soul), I think people were more interested in my moms hair rather then the wedding. 😀
@@eviewhitmarsh-knight6420 oh really? thats super surprising, why do you want thin hair? i absolutely hate mine theres barely anything to work with cnshfjsh
@@xayah6391 Yeah exactly! And my heart aches when someone with nice thick hair wishes that they had my hair. Like no girl, trust me, you do NOT want thin hair.
She speaks the truth if your hair starts thinning out go get some tests done...mine was my thyroid...now I'm on meds and on a no heat diet lol 😂...it's helping a lot though...she looks great 😁.
Mine was anemia, iron and zinc. Then is was auto inflammatory (psoriasis as well) problems due to food allergies, gluten. Truthfully they were all connected. Because I am a woman of a certain age 53 my doctor dismissed it as age and hormones but I knew something more was wrong. It was falling out in clumps that’s not age but again my hair was long because I take care of it they dismissed me. I say check food allergies as well.
May I ask you if your TSH levels were within normal range but not T3 or T4 ? I have androgenetic alopecia and everytime I bring up my hair loss, I get a blood test with TSH only (and unrelated things). Thing is, prior to losing my hair I remember getting my T3 and T4 levels checked as well and one of them was way over the top.
Oh my goodness I literally am in tears. she’s looks so beautiful. I have always had thin hair and people always said “it’s because you perm your hair” like I literally only started perming my hair a few years back and I get 2 perms a YEAR. For me it’s genetics. Mother, father, grandmother all had thin hair... always made me feel like I couldn’t have certain styles done.
Girl I'm the exact same. My hair was thin when I relaxed. I went natural when I was 10 because the relaxer made my hair fall out. I'm 22 now and my hair is still fine. I've never been able to do high puffs or any other of those natural styles. I literally live in protective styles because of it
@@SmoothOpe_ they always tell girls with fuller hair their beautiful. your hair is beautiful as well. try other styles! hit me up ! I’ve been cheating the system and have found some ways to do natural looking styles on our texture! YTC: Nyjee Delores Instagram: @nyjeedelores
Yeah genetics are crazy and kind of just like rolling the dice. On my mother’s side of the family, the men have great hair but all the women have really thin hair. On my dad’s side, it’s the complete opposite. All the men are bald but the women have thick hair and lots of it. I was lucky. I have hair like the women on my dad’s side. It takes more than two hours to dry naturally though lol
I’ve had thin hair all my life and lived with insecurities from it forever. People always just admire long thick hair & that’s not the case with everyone.
I don't think the woman in this video have thin hair though. It looks pretty normal to me. "Thin hair" makes me think of people who are balding and stuff. This woman has alot of hair.
@@purpledawn2727 that's the problem, we assume that thin is gonna be like that. Yes it's the case for many but when a stylist that good says it's thin, it's probably on the thin side haha
@@thatsEforEveryone but I think there's alot of misconception when it comes to the term "thin hair". You can have thin hair as in few hairs(balding) or you can have thin hair strands but still have alot of hair(fine hair), the latter being extremely common and it's normal for people to have this kind of hair. So my point is that people shouldn't feel bad about it. As said, this lady in this video has alot of hair, but the strand themselves seems thin. People with similiar hair watching this may not even have thought about the fact that they supposedly have thin hair and showing this lady's hair as somerhing less desirable/less normal isn't really fortunate since this is infact normal and common.
My thin hair led to insecurity issues. People would randomly comment on how thin my hair is getting day-by-day (btw it's been thin/fine since birth so 🤷♀️) or how I'm 'balding'..? I have wavy/curly hair that conceals the hair's fine texture when it is dry. Shampoo commercials NEED to normalise fine hair ! Let people know that anything other than thick, luscious hair isn't necessarily ugly or unhealthy.
THIS!! I have the same problem as you and it looks look thin because my hair is wavy and quite frizzy. I became extremely insecure because of this as I used to have really thick hair when I was younger 😔
Same thing happened with me as well! My hair is fine and specially when washed, they become so less and that's why so many people point it out..and this became the reason for me to not go in salons as well as in pools.
I'm very sorry you've had to go through that. I have thick hair, but I've kept it in a pixie cut for years and years and I wish I had thin hair so it would actually lay right. My sister has fine hair and it's so soft and easy to manage while mine is coarse and all over the place.
@@bookworm4174 does thin hair really holds curls? 🥺 I have thin hair and can't hold any type of texture, its almost straight naturally and i thought i didn't hold curls because it was thin :(
@@toointoxicatedtobescared6853 You just caused me to go down the absolute best rabbit hole I've been down in a long time. Thanks for the great recommendation!
I swear I tear up every time I watch one of these videos. This woman’s kindness radiates through every single thing she does and says. She just wants to make everyone feel beautiful. The world would be a better place if more people were like you, ma’am. 💛 May god bless you always.
something about a hair stylist being so gentle with someone’s hair is so relaxing to me. 😌 i guess bc growing up having my mom & my aunts do my hair, just yanking and pulling just.... 😬😬 also, knowin that i’m tender headed, maaaan... the paaaain i went thru 😩😭 that’s why i don’t let people mess with my hair now. ion trust y’all iron steel, mine worker hands. 🤣
I have a very tender head also, some hairdressers just rip the comb through your hair, too lazy to detangle it gently. So what I do is run my fingers through my hair before I go in the salon and make sure there are no tangles.
I completely get what you are saying. Omg, they will pull and yank your hair so much, that when they are done; you feel like someone LITERALLY snatched a knot into your head. You feel that pain for days. Btw I have 4C hair so you know i was like 😳😳😳
You're not alone. I'm in London too and said the same. My family thinks I'm nuts, but trust me I'll get there and I'm gonna look fly when I come out 😀 Try and sell UK to her so she'll move over tee hee x
Her hair does look good. Honestly I wouldn't even call it thin coming from a family of people with fine hair. Her hair just looks normal thickness and fine. I actually love it straight and love that the stylist didn't overrule her to make it look "better". There's beauty in all hair types and thicknesses.
I'm the same way. My hair grows nicely but it's very fine/thin and some days I really want to just cry, it's upsetting. I get so worried because I'm getting older and fearful that in 10 yrs I won't have any hair. I've never had thick hair and I can remember girls in high school commenting on it, poking fun a little bit. I have just started using HBCO and hope it will help thicken my hair.
@@sayitloudblcknproud Hey, queen! Something that really worked for me for a while was "New nordic's hair volume" supplements and i actually had a lot of new growth from my thinning parts. It's the only thing that has ever worked for my hair. Of course it's not a sure thing for everyone but I would have to kick myself if I didn't at least tell you :)
Saaaame. And people always come up and tell me “omg, your hair is so thick!” I’m like “no, my hair is so CURLY”. It’s thin as hell! It grows fast as hell though, I know that much. And I don’t know why, because my diet and health habits are terrrrible.
You should try cutting it, it won't make it actually thicker but it will give that illusion, if your hair is thin the longer it is the thinner it appears to be
(This explanation will sound baseless, being that it is better shown than verbally explained). The reason why it appears thicker with a darker rinse or a darker hair color is, it's like the "shadow effect". Meaning, it makes 1 strand of hair appear like 2 because of the "shadow effect". For an example high lights tends to highlight the strands of your hair. Versus low lights tends to shadow your already dark hair. I know my explanation sounds crazy but it's something that is better shown then verbally explained. I really wish I could show "Deeper than hair" and everyone else, then you would understand.
What you say is true. I color my hair and the. Darker colors like purple, blue and deep green look way more full compared to pink, red and yellow or orange. The dark colors reflect the light while light colors invite them in. Good explanation.
I totally get what you're saying. When I had short hair alot of women got black rinses on their hair and it made a world of difference and made it look so much fuller & healthier.
One stylist at a wedding told me I had mermaid hair, like running her hand through water. I have such thin fine hair and it was such a compliment. Everybody always talks about thick hair no one had ever complimented my fine hair for being fine. As long as your hair is healthy it dont matter the texture, love your hair wether it thick or thin curly or straight!
I have thin hair and everything you said here is true. Again I'm so surprised by your knowledge. So many stylists will treat thin hair like thick and it dosent work out. I wish I could clone you!
my hair was shedding and my blood test showed i have a vitamin deficiency... my potassium and d2 was really low. get blood work done ladies. i take my vitamins and after 2 weeks i stopped shedding
@Taylor's Mood i went to my gyn and she told me. i tell all my doctors no matter what type they are ALL my issues with no filter just in case they know things my other doctors dont know, bypass and they will referral you the specific doc for your issue to go to... but it popped up in my blood work from my gyn.
My hair is also fine like this. Took me years to find a beautician to help me define its beauty. I loveeeeee her, I was always so jealous of others with thick hair growing up but I’m in love with my strands now.
Tanaisha Willard Just find a beautician who actually knows how to handle fine hair, not all of them do. I’ve been sent out of shops with the flattest of wraps in the past 😣all hair is beautiful, just need the right person to help you with it. I did cut and layer it for more volume as well.
Tanaisha Willard the only stylist I personally found that does fine hair really well also has super fine hair herself. That’s my trick now. It you have baby thin, fine hair like I do, then congratulations- you’re my girl, we best friends now, and I’ll be in your chair every 6 weeks 😂
I love the way you talk about differences in everyone’s hair types/textures. There is absolutely no negativity in your videos and the way you explain hair care is not only educational but inspirational as well ❤️
My daughter has thin hair, and this video gives me confidence I can help grow her hair out. She’s only four and has a little breakage, but watching you trim hair and this video is going to help me out! I sincerely appreciate your passion for doing the right thing for your clients. You’re amazing!
I have very thin hair and was and still sort of insecure of it seeing all these nice comments make me so happy you guys are awesome have a wonderful day because you all made my day 😭❤
I used to have real thick hair that even the strongest clip would break in a few days, now, my hair has thinned so much that even the smallest clip handles it. Pray for my hair recovery!!!!!
@@Sara234-d8z I think its a mixed case of hypothyroidism, pcos, and me getting a bad case of food poisoning. The first two did not do that much in my hair, but the time I got sick to where I was travelling did the most work. When I came back from travelling, I started losing in great amount my hair after 3-4 months of being recovered, and they also changed their texture, and became this weird looking wavy hair with uneven strands. I still have not recovered from this. Its been over 5 years.
I'm having the same hair journey. I used to lose hairpins in my curls for a week at a time, snap clips, pop ponytail holders and break brushes in half. Then my body went haywire with tumors and hormones etc. I finally did get my hormones/PCOS problems under control. But, a few years ago, my hair started thinning out terribly around my face and kept disappearing. Within a year or so, I lost over a foot of length and developed nearly bald patches in the front. A dermatologist performed a biopsy and discovered that a rare autoimmune disorder called lichen planopilaris is causing my hair loss and scalp pain, inflammation and itchiness. I'm currently jumping through hoops to try to find a treatment that works for me. I will definitely pray for your recovery, too.
@@DragonCurls I am so sad to hear about this. I will also pray for your recovery! Hope you can recover from this. PCOS is already hard to deal with, and an autoimmune disorder just kills you no matter what.
My hair is her length or a little longer and my old stylist stopped doing hair so I may go twice a year to flat iron and get my split ends clipped. I went to my cousins stylist whom I have known as well since high school. Well she heat damaged my entire head of hair from root to end my hair looks like I have a perm. I've been so upset about it for a month now. The only thing she said was " yes it's heat damaged I apologize and you can take vitamins to speed up your hair growth." I almost caught a case cause I started to yank every last strand of her weave out. So I'm waiting to about December and I will do a big chop. Moving forward I'm on a no heat journey. Im going to buy the shears you recommend and and your products and do my own hair. I appreciate the LOVE you show on your clients. 💞
I stay 2 hours outside of Dallas and I make that trip once every 2 months. It’s worth it when you know your hair is going to be taken care of the right way
I have fine hair. I was frustrated going to the hair dresser to relax my hair. The usual hair dresser comments were, your hair is thin. Eventually I stopped going and went natural. I now have sisterlocks and I love my hair.
Passion. That's the answer to succeding. When you're passionate about something, you'll constantly educate yourself in its subject and as a result, become a complete pro. This channel is an example of that ♥
I literally dyed my hair black so that it looked more full and healthy again. My hair hasnt been black in 10 or so years, & it looked dryer, thinner, etc. it looks so much fuller and healthier being black.
My natural hair color is a sandy brown and i've been coloring it shades of brown for years. I recently dyed my roots black and the ends of my locs are lighter. It really does make my naturally thinner roots look fuller.
Darker colours absorb more light and cast more of a visual ‘shadow’, so darker hair usually looks fuller. The downside is darkness will reduce visual definition, which is why a lot of curlies always feel like they need highlights! Lighter hair reflects light and will literally ‘highlight’ your hair, so it’s better to add darkness if you feel like your hair looks too thin and/or weak But ofc your overall appearance is what matters most, not just your hair alone. so while a darker colour might make your hair look fuller, it can also make ur face look less defined and might further highlight and darkness on your face, and creates more shadows on your face In contrast, a lighter colour will add light to your face and might make you look brighter overall :) This is true for all colours, which is why ppl say black is slimming- because black absorbs the light and adds more shadows, making it harder to see your shape
Im so glad you showed this client! I have the exact same hair as this girl sandy, thin, fine, and super fine edges. I used to be really self conscious about my hair because I don’t have that full hairline like these girls with the baby hairs (and I love myself a braided pony) But I’ve accepted that there is no amount of Jamaican black castor oil that can change my family genes lol we all have this soft hair, it’s normal and more importantly in great health!
My hairs been falling out for the past 3 years, i used to have thick curly hair.. There is nothing more upsetting then walking into work and people pointing your hair out or friends asking if you've cutt it
@@astrid5522 Thanks for responding. I think this is also my problem. I used to have very thick hair but I am anemic and have noticed that my hair is getting thinner. I didn't realize there was a connection!
Hey sweetheart. I hade the same issue as you - for years my hair was getting thinner and thinner. I can whole-heartedly say that the ONLY thing that helped me stop the hairloss and subsequently grow my hair back is the 'Weleda revitalising hair tonic'! I don't know which stores carry it in your area, but you can find it on Amazon. I put it in a spray bottle and apply it all over my scalp the night before washing my hair, then gently rubbing it in. If the hairloss is severe you can apply a little bit every morning and evening. Please please please get it. It will make your hair healthy and thick again!
Once dry, it looks like her strands are just fine rather than her having actual thin hair. Everyone's hair looks a little flatter and thinner when wet.
@@MrsJolene- no. Her actual strands are thin/fine, but she has a normal amount of strands. Her hair is very fine. The texture of her hair seems very fine. If you can't see the scalp when it's dry, then it's not necessarily thin hair, just that her individual strands are not thick enough, not that she has fewer strands on her head.
Which is why the term "fine hair" apply to those who have literally FINE/thin individual strands of hair. What people are trying to say in this video is that she has low density hair. Which means fewer strands on her scalp than the "average".
Her hair is like mine. Fine and wispy, it tangles very easily and can get really frizzy. You can have fine hair that's thin or thick. Each of my hair strands looks as fine as a spider web. I have a fair amount of it but very similar texture to hers
YES! THANK YOU FOR THIS! I have super fine hair and I always have. It’s shockingly difficult to find a stylist who knows what do do with it! They always want to load me up with products and give me layers- even when I tell them that a blunt cut makes it looks SO much thicker. I’m so happy you posted this and that you understand fine hair! Thank you! 😍😍
You are by far one of the top 5 best hair stylist on RU-vid that I’ve ever seen and I watch a lot of ppl! You do beautiful work on all hair textures and types❤️👏🏽🙌🏽 Amazing work queen👑👌🏽🥰 I love you encourage women to wear their hair however they want despite issues they may think they have with their hair.. you are such a dope person.
And can we just say here that some people have issues with low thyroid and low estrogen? I had to have my complete thyroid gland removed in 2005 and a complete hysterectomy in 1995. Hormones play a HUGE PART in how thick and healthy our hair is! And when you hit your sixties things just have a way of heading South!
Now these are the creative, beneficial, edifying discussions that need to addressed from a customers point of view and concerns. I would sometimes wonder if the hairdresser even listens to me or cared about me or what I was trying to say, never left with anything I asked, so haven't been back to one in 32 yrs. However now tuned into the beauty channel community, I came across this channel and won't leave. Its bringing and building back my faith slowly. Still afraid to go to one but feeling calmer and my anxiety down a notch. As a black woman of 54 yrs and grand daughters, I don't want them to go through my experiences. Some people just don't encounter your hair with a clean spirit, you leave traumatized, sometimes burnt to the scalp, sometimes bald after all you asked for was a trim. It's taken me over 30 odd years to talk about , I've never expressed my experiences to any one. My son loves locks, things started to change, I told him do your own you know how, do not just let everybody and anybody touch your Crown on your head. He listened and he's healing mentally and physically. Keep him in your prayers please. : ) Deep words for the wise, test the spiritual environment around you when you enter any building or congregation of people. Thanks for listening
Wow finally someone with my hair type. I’ve NEVER seen anyone with this hair type (curly but puffy that tangles in on itself, but also thin and sheds easily). I hate my hair so much and it’s so frustrating, almost every single day I break down in tears because I can’t deal with it. It’s painful to brush, I can’t keep it curly because then it knots itself together but straightening is heat damage, and it’s always thin as hell. I WISH someone could make hair videos on this hair type because it is exasperating and it brings me to tears every day trying to deal with it. Please make more videos on how to deal with hair like this!! Thank you! 💕💕🙏🏻
Sounds like my hair type. Sheds tremendously after co-wash and shampoo and tangles ridiculously. Naturally dry & absorbs moisturizers/ conditioners like a sponge and looks brittle no matter how much I trim the ends. I cut all my hair off in frustration two years ago only for it to grow back out looking the exact same. Thin, but soft as baby hair..... it’s so confusing bc it grows very long
C. Taylor Is your hair really curly naturally but thin, so if you get out of the shower and don’t style it it’ll curl up on itself and get puffy and stick together frustratingly?
@@hannahdivic28 yesssss exactly!!! Brings me to tears sometimes bc it almost locks into into itself and I haft to pry It apart with my fingers or comb. I lose so much hair it can be the size of a softball...I deep condition and still haft to fight my hair like this😩
@@c.taylor558 I feel your pain girl you’re not alone. Something I found recently that’s been helping actually is to shampoo every day or every other day just on the roots, then condition only the ends. Rinse. Lightly wrap in a soft t shirt to dry a few min (not completely dry, keep it mostly damp). Then take it out and spray with detangler ALL OVER (I use the Suave kids one) and it’s a 10 miracle leave in ONLY on the ends and midshafts. Then, brush from the ends to the top with the Wet brush and part in the middle. Braid 2 sides or make 2 twists and let dry. It’s SO much easier to work with and I’ve lost less hair. I’m still thinking of giving up and getting a wig some days though, but this definitely helps.
Thea Haslam Sandal Just because a hairtype is called “Scandinavian hairtype” OBVIOUSLY doesn’t mean thaT EVERYONE in Scandinavia has it or that everyone who has it is Scandinavian. I thought it went without saying but should of course have known better. Still, thin and wispy hair is called ”Scandinavians hair” here because it’s a common hair type. Not even everyone in my family has it or they wouldn’t have made fun of me for having “bad hair”.
My hair has gotten thinner as I age. I get a roller set every 2 wks and I work out 3 to 4 days a week with it wrapped under a cap. At night I put 3 big flexie rods in my hair and in the morning I wrap it before getting in the shower. This adds so much fullness.. The second week of my roller set is the best for my hair! My natural oils exudes through all my strands. My hair is shiny, has great curls, and so much fuller. I love it!!! I also keep my hair dark

I used to have thin balding hair until I consumed more water stopped with the processed food/ fast food, managed my stress, rice water, stopped bleaching it, SCALP massages and scalp scrub, trimmed every now and then. I love the positivity in this video and in the comments. It's so important to find the right stylist who is compassionate and caring, who is really try to help. I've gone through numerous salons, and I've been to stylists who made me feel awful about my hair, and said awful things. You want to leave feeling beautiful, not worse. My hair is like this client's - it's thin(ing) and fine. I have a color glaze on my hair, but no silk press because it makes my hair too straight and curl resistant. The blow dry and curl works for me. If I had thick and healthier hair, I'd have the silk press because it is gorgeous! But I did get some Jamaican hair oil, thanks for the tip!
My daughter's hair is like that. She has fine hair but its long and full. I never flat iron it, i just round brush it using a hot blow dryer and use rollers to curl it. It turns out beautiful.
This is how my hair naturally is, im not balding or thinning its always been like this. Nice to see actually people posting about this hair type, im getting SMP in September to make it look fuller, good luck with everyone’s hair journeys ❤️❤️
Love that you honour your client's wishes unless you know their hair is too damaged or something. I know how I want my hair, it's me that has to take care of it after the cut and it's my money, and yet so many hairdresssers think that they should have the final word. Finally found a good cutter who respects my hair and my wishes.
I am addicted to your channel! I have fairly thin hair (born with it) and also have been on a no heat journey since the early 2000s. When I need to curl it (sadly I have bone straight hair and curly hair is my FAVORITE) I use wet set curls. Thanks so much for sharing!
Plz don't feel sad hair comes in all textures , fullness and colors . And that's a beautiful thing❣ imagine if everyone got the same type of hair . How boring would that be?💎
