I feel terrible for Phil's mom. No mother should have to have that experience. She was a great woman.....she suffered a lot in her life. Remember both of them well.
Phillip Paris Lynott, The Greatest Rock and Roll Bandleader of all time, and Thin Lizzy The Greatest Rock Band of all time............................................
RESPECT big man I don't have many heros but Phil was one of them .Huge personality and best front man ever .I loved Lizzy so many wasted years Love ya Phil
Whiskey in the jar, without a doubt the most autobiographical song by the band. Liked them in the '70s but truely love & appreciate them now. RIP Mr. Lynott. Bless ur little ones too.
This man was an inspiration to me. He still is. He was a truly kind and good man.. You can hear it from what they all were saying in this video and his spirit will live on forever. A family member of mine was lucky enough to meet him in a pub in Dublin and get his autograph. She gave it to my dad and now it is mine. It is something I will treasure forever. I am so proud to be Irish...
Heroin takes everything, your thoughts, your wants, your desires, even in sleep your brain thinks of nothing else, insidious is the only word that comes to mind.
Just a real beautiful mom who loved her son who was so hooked on the evil demon of heroin....God love her, and Phil who was just a guy trying to be more than a dublin milk carrier....god bless u in heaven phil u are missed by so many.
There is only one phil the voice and that bass guitar are so unique these will never be any one else like it, but as a whole thin lizzy are the dogs bollocks of rock
HEROIN is a terrible trap... It offers a warm, relaxing feeling and sense of overwhelming wellbeing which seems to help people who work busy and hectic shedules like rock stars. The effect is only temporary however, and by the time most people decide to stop using it, it's already too late, as they are addicted. It is much easier to take another bit and get rid of the horrific withdrawal symptoms, (the "sickness" as most addicts refer to it as) than it is to go through the sickness, and return to feeling normal. This worst part of this recovery process can last for up to a week. Taking another bit of the drug gets rid of the sickness INSTANTLY, this is the trap of it, and the reason people get STUCK on the drug. They are no longer using it for pleasure at this stage, they are only using it so they feel "normal", (ie: the way their body felt usually, before they EVER took heroin). It's a HIGHLY addictive substance, and it's very sad the way so many musicians get roped into using it, all because of the initial feelings of stress relief and wellbeing it provides. The good things the drug provides are very SHORT-LIVED though, and the way the addiction seeps in is SO SUBTLE that NOBODY sees it happening until it is too late. Respect from Davey in Longford, Éire. (If anyone needs help or support beating drug addiction, don't hesitate to contact me, I'll provide my email address, and will do everything I can to support you, and give you help to beat your addiction)
Thanx for posting this, I loved Thin Lizzy & I know someone close to me that had the total system failure due to too many drugs & loss of band mates. RIP Phil.
So sad my heart is so broken still after all these years.. Then there's even more ledgers gone so early from this earth. Lennon 1940, Jackson who is or was my age born 1958
@krankrocker Couldn't agree more. One of the most underrated bands of the 70's and early 80's. Phil is a legend in my eyes. One of my biggest influences as a bass player of hard rock. R.I.P. Phil you are the Man!
A mother and son.... reunited.... time waits for no one. Makes you think? Thin Lizzy was a huge part of my life, i was part of their army, always will be. A proud mother she must have been. The piper will call us all...
Thanks for that! Surprised VH-1 even knows Lizzy - much less did a BTM on them. The longer Phil's gone - the more he'll be remembered. The most overlooked, underrated band in the history of rock & roll. People are finally catching on - better late than never, I guess.
It's a shame that so many great people are taken away from us because of drugs. It goes to show that money and fame are all illusions, our happiness and survival comes from within
The one band I never got to see live I've seen all the biggest rock bands queen motley crew AC/DC motorhead but if I had my time again I would give all those guys up for one Lizzy his RIP BIG FELLA
i lived about 2 miles from Phil in Howth Co Dublin the strand road id see him around from time to time .he was a amazing guy i guess the heroin took his body out
Brings tears to my eyes when I watch this, I know Phils mother well, she's a great friend and spent time at my maa, s who sadly died April 2012 God bless you Philomena , and your son Philip x Carl
Great band, great music. drugs are tool of Satan. Great songs and great level of talent. This band deserves a more fitting bio. still, better than expected. RIP GARY AND PHIL
So nice to hear Phil's mom say "he was a great man". I still love listening to "The Boy's Are Back In Town", even more so now with fond memories. RIP Phil Lynnot (sic? please excuse). Reminds me so much of a time when an Irish bloke dropped in on a few Aussie kid's just left home and beat the living shit out of a junkie who'd just robbed us. He wasn't so big, Marty was his name, but oh boy did he bet the shit out of that guy, for no other reason than he knew he was lying. We were eighteen, Marty was in his thirties, knew the score.
This is the bad side of being a rock'n'roll star.... Drugs destroy every artist... without exception.... a tragic end for such a brilliant artist like Mr Lynott... R.I.P. Phil Lynott..
I remember Phil and the boys at the Greyhound in Croydon and they were the happiest (and loudest) times in my life. Scott & Robbo dueling off each other till their fingers bled. I just cannot put across how much those days in the 70's mean to me, they were my life, they still are. At one gig at the Greyhound (I think it was the Jailbreak tour) I bet my mate two quid he wouldn't climb into one of the speakers next to the stage where we sat joyfully having our ears blow away. He did it, I lost the bet. To this day my hearing has not been too great. Was it worth it, would we do the same thing again given the chance?.....You bet we would, What fabulous memories that will unfortunately die with me now in my 60's and not well. I just wish their was somehow, some way I could hand those memories on but I can't and that is a travesty. Yes, the world moves on, but it will be (is) an infinitely poorer place without Phil & the boys back in town. BSR?.....keep the dream rolling boys!
@gwxk surely you jest. Of course I had heard of Thin Lizzy before i saw this. I caught it by accident one night about 8 years ago. I have never been so moved by a Behind The Music. Hearing the songs in the backgound, I just couldn't understand how under-appreciated this band was. I became absolutely obsessed because of this. On my honeymoon in Ireland i have pictures of myself next to his statue off Grafton St. The most moving BEH i have ever seen.
I loved this band,Scott Gorham is still incredible Christopher Reeves handsome.....I was always envious of his hair! LOL Gary Moore and the rest of the band were incredible! I loved Scott's laid back demenor.
@krankrocker I couldn't agree more. One of the most underappreciated bands of the 70's and Phil was one of the greatest rock 'n' roll performers of all time, but you can't forget Scott Gorham, Brian Downey, Gary Moore, Brian Robertson, and Eric Bell from the first three albums. Overall great band.
