My kind of water, this type of water is how Subnautica starts out as. It is beautiful. If when you play play on eat drink and air mode survival mode. Please. I believe you would enjoy said game.
I don't think I have ever punched 'like' so fast. As your gaming senior, I respect the hell out of you for buying the PS2 copy. Dormin's voice is even cooler in that one. Cheers!
44:09 That’s the reason why I love this game so much! The fact that it doesn’t have music while on horseback, first of all it makes the bosses way more impactful when they do show up, and the world’s atmosphere benefits from not using music, it feels like a real deserted forbidden land. Dark Souls and Bloodborne also used this design choice and it really benefited tgem as well. I only wish Elden Ring didn’t have music in the world for the exact same reason, because that world feels alot more unnatural compared to Shadow of the Colossus and Dark Souls.
I feel like it's different though because in Elden Ring there is chance and hope for change, most of the endings bar 2 maybe 3 benefit the lands between, and I also feel like there is a lot more life in Elden ring compared to the death and decay of Dark Souls, so maybe that's why they added music, I do agree with your other points though.
So glad you're absolutely loving this game, genuinely. This isn't a spoiler, but at some point before the final Colossi, you should take a closer look at Wander (the character you play as). You might find some interesting things. Also, if you want to end up doing some kind of "Lore and Chill" for the game, a great place to start is with Nomad Colossus. He is the Vati of Shadow of The Colossus.
Some tips from a former speedrunner of this game; - You can do a really interesting technique called a "Jump Stab" where you jump and press the climb input + attack input and you'll almost do the equivalent of a plunge attack from the souls games but it stabs instead with a fully charged grip meter. The remake features a new way that this can be done by just holding square after a jump if you're playing on the modern control scheme. - As for the grip meter, One can charge the stabs faster if you hold attack input instead of doing a single press. It will come in handy on later fights - When you get knocked down, I think the remake allows you to spam face buttons to recover from the stun faster, the original game it could be done by spinning the left stick - You can also recover health faster if you crouch for a bit. Anyway, Really cool to see that you also bought the original game and congrats on the road to 30k subs!
I came to your channel last year when you were making demon souls videos, you made the saga of my favorite games, the souls saga and bloodborne. And now, my childhood is playing out in the form of a game, in fact my favorite casual gaming RU-vidr.
I feel like my whole mental existence leveled up after the turtle colossi. The devastation was so deeply felt when I crawled all over its belly and found no weak point! Biggest dap to you Mati for this amazing episode!
The "seal its quick movement" hint might've been a bit poorly translated from japanese. "Seal" was likely meant as disrupt/hinder and "quick" probably meant deft/dextrous, referencing his ability to climb.
46:31 to 46:37 It's a fine detail to see Agro was hurt from being hit by the blast. Many other games would have just had your horse get up like nothing happened.
🎉🎉OMG CONGRATS ON 29,000 SUBS!!! 🎉🎉 That is absolutely insane. So glad you're enjoying this game, I'm loving watching you play it. Your reactions to the giants are hilarious, lol.
So cool that you are playing this one Mati. The fist time I played this, I was so stunned at how different it was to other games of its time. As always, Rock on!
My boy,Mati I hope someday after you'r finished with shadow of the colossus you start god of war from the begining. Believe me it will be an absolute journy just like the souls series (by the way I'm a fan since elden ring days )
the higher the climber falls, the longer it gets to back up, so the way to do it is atracting it to the top, shooting any of its weak spots with an arrow and then jumping for your life. You can roll through one window and then catch yourself in the next windows before falling so you dont get damage but still get down faster
I'm going to knock 5 point off the nostalgia for the "Greatest Hits" version with the black & white manual. I love that you love the game and the up-res version looks beautiful and far less pixelated then what I remember.
You must go on the sacred journey of the 79 steps of enlightenment once you beat it. And I recommend completing the time trials first so you'll have the necessary equipment to pull it off. Best secret ever
the way i remember this game is it never told you anything at the beginning.. you bring in the girl, you put her down.. you dont know whats going on.. you go fight the monsters.. you dont know why.. i guess its so this girl will wake up and give you a kiss.. you beat the game and she dies an you die and all the monsters are dead.. thats what i remember.
While I cannot believe how much time you are spending in figuring out some of these, I am LOVING seeing someone play an almost 20 year old game and digging it. The way you appreciate the amazing music is especially nice to see.
Watching you go from your earliest videos to almost 30k has been insane, I'm so happy for you! SotC is in my top five of all time, watching someone experience it for the first time is so incredible. As for the hair, you look great! I honestly didn't even notice until you said you weren't wearing a hat. Your haircut looks lovely, you might benefit from a loose styler like a mousse or a very light curl cream to keep everything shiny :) Can't wait for you to see the ending of this game, bring tissues ;)
I'm loving this series! You're so pure and smart about your thoughts and gameplay. And the edit is underratedly good! You deserve your success man! Keep it up ❤
The moment you got on top of the 3rd colossos had me jumping in my chair xD. I was like no way he is falling down now. Man, I have not been this excited by a video game for a long time. Thank you for playing and sharing this.
Bro, I've been absolutely loving your playthrough of this game so far. Out of everyone to do it on youtube, yours is one of the best - easily top 3. I know it may be unconventional, but it would be really interesting to see your reaction to how the game looks on the Ps2. In my opinion, the atmosphere and ambiance is unmatched in the original. The remake looks great, but the way the world looks suits the tone of the story much better in the orignal.
Sup Mati! When this game ends and before engaging in a multi game long series like GOW could you do The Last Guardian? It takes place in the same universe as Shadow of the Colossus and was widely acclaimed. Also congrats on nearing 30k!
Had you ever played Dragon's Dogma? The sequel arrives in March, the story is relatively short, there would be time to complete the first and catch the hype of the second. In short, it would be magnificent to see Sir Jedediah and his faithful pawn Baby Face saving Gransys from the dragon 🤣
i started playing this years ago on ps3. it was a two pack with ico. but then i moved on. it was really fun. but now i have it on ps4 so i think i definitely need to revisit it.
Man I love this game. Cant recall the last time I enjoyed a let’s play series. Also great to see someone have fun playing a work of art like this. Awesome you got yourself the physical copy as well. Great personality and great vids! Subbed
Hey Mati, I really Love your content and the videos you make. And I Love it even more that you are playing one of my absolute favorite Games. Shadow of the collosus is Not only an artistical masterpiece with it's absolutely breathtaking world but also has wonderful Soundtracks. I really Love this Game for its Boss Fights but I guess you already do so too. It's just so great and I really want to say: Thank you for making this content and revisiting older but absolute bangers in Game History. If you ever need another Game I would ask of you to try Horizon Zero Dawn. This Game was one of the First Games to really make me feel and Love Video Games so it would be cool if you gave it a try. A nice day to you and everyone else who ready my comment.
I love this game. I hope you keep playing until the end. I also appreciate your entertaining playing style without any artificiality. This will make you a successful RU-vidr. I hope you reach 100,000 subscribers soon.
When the first boss entered, that also just reminded me of the game Journey, haha (But don't worry, there aren't exactly deep waters you need to enter there haha)
I've watched your first two SOTC videos and now I'm on your third. You said "I hope your having a sick day....not like that." I'm actually home today because I am sick and that led me to open RU-vid and look for something to watch and now I'm here! So yes I am having a sick day and here I am! Congratulations on 30k subscribers and I am glad to be a part of it!
I played the PS3 port and it was excellent. The funny thing about this game specifically, is that it came out so late in the PS2 era and so close to the release of the PS3 that the graphics were PS3 worthy. Visually, the PS3 port isn't terribly different. I think they just updated some specifics on the graphics that you'd only see if you put frames between the games side by side. I think there might be some extra things but I can't remember.
its basically the european ps2 version (that has improvements on its own) with stable 30 fps, somewhat higher resolution textures and screen. Also 3d support, although turning on 3d in a 1080p dislpay would basically bring you back to the ps2's 12-15 frames per second average in battle
I know I speak for myself but, I watch your videos because you are entertaining and enjoy your humor, editing, gamestyle and skill. Not for how you dress or look. On that note, you are a handsome dude wether hat or shaggy hair or not. So don’t worry. Do whats most comfortable for you, and congrats and your channel growth
I like the idea of Basaran (the turtle), but his fight really needed a second pass. Between getting him to the geyser at the right time, needing Agro, and the lasers, it stops being fun (at least for me). If you're interested, you can get a colossus' attention by calling for Agro too. It's useful if you can't shoot them. Mono's the girl's name, MC is Wander.
i never noticed just how much is different between the original version of the game and the ps4 remake, all the item pickups and the lizards. Never noticed them before ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@minilabyrinth i remember seeing the random ones around the map but i never noticed the blue tailed ones. This guy and Jack's replay are the reason i even remembered this game existed lol.
As someone who stuggles with all Souls bosses in a big way, but beat all the SotC bosses about ten times faster... this playthrough is making me feel a lot better about myself. :D
Hey Mati, started watching with you're Souls games and now I watch every upload and always look forward to getting home from work and chilling with you're vids for the evening! Appreciate all ya do for the community. Keep up the great work and hope all is well in you're neck if the woods!!!
23:00 this thing killed me so many times even the 3rd and 4th time i played this game.. im pretty sure my cousin was in the room with me while i fought this.. and it killed me..
The next colossus is the one I loved the most. I had saves for this one and the flying one from previous episodes, just to be able to show them to friends XD
Bro!! Kisses from mexico! and i love your content when i saw your dark souls series, but whit this game you made me back in time when this game in my PS2 was my greatest discover!❤ (Sorry for my english dude 😅)
Just discovered you like 2 months ago and now I look forward to all of your posts. The playthroughs are lots of fun to watch. Also I know you’re looking for some more games to play and final fantasy 16 has some crazy boss fights
Ooooo I remember buying my Greatest Hits copy of the original SotC for 20$USD all those years ago. One of my first solo game purchases. Good on you for finding one and that crisp condition is FIRE Wonder what you think of the music? When you're done, might be fun to listen to the tracks and see if you remember which Colossi you faced to each track since the music is soooooo damn good! Happy Friday d00d!
As much as I love watching you fighting explore more and fight even more every video, 3 is more than enough for a video and obviously take care of yourself more so if a video has only one or two it's not a problem as long as you're doing well then we're happy. I'm so glad you're loving this game and I can't wait for you to play The Last Guardian and maybe ICO.
I don't know if I'm misremembering the PS2 version... but I'm pretty sure that if you got stuck the first hint was more metaphorical, just to guide you vaguely and then if you could not find out it would straight away tell you. This remake goes directly to the straight forward hint. Am I remembering this right? Because I played the original so long ago that I might be wrong.
If you love Shadow of the Colossus, you should definitely play The Last Gaurdian & Ico. Which are the prequel & sequel to Sotc. The whole trilogy is a masterpiece.
