Imagine two people in real life talking: they never ever start as if they're born yesterday. We all have a past, and in the show the author wanted to capture exactly that. We start at a random point in their lives.

"Distrusting thing was the wisest thing you've done since you climbed off your horse" - after watching this several times now I treat this as a subtle insult. Baelish is claiming that Ned haven't done any wise things since he came to capital.

After each episode, after the preview for the next one, there’s a brief segment called “Inside the Episode,” where the writers discuss what happened in that particular episode. I’m sure it would be helpful for you. That said, no one (who didn’t read the books) was able to catch every detail on their first watch. It certainly does get easier (and more enjoyable) as you go along once you’re more familiar with the characters.

Regarding warming up to characters, this show is one of the ultimates in making you do a 180 on people you initially hated/loved. I can't really say more without giving stuff away, but get hyped for some fantastic redemption arcs, etc. Also, the Mad King they keep referencing is Daenerys and Viserys' father. I feel like they never made that terribly clear early on.

Great reaction to the episode's end. I remember this one was the first that started to rise my enthusiasm because i had no expectation over Lady Stark and then this happened. Sooo many things ahead are waiting for you Stef, i envy you 😂

You mentioned the intro, something i didnt realize until like 3rd season is each one is unique. They will show all the locations that will be shown in that episode.

Two words 1- don't worry about backgrounds, after every season you better see history and lore, then you understand more. 2- don't fall in love or even hate with anyone in this show, so you can easily sleep at night 😊.

The scene with Catelyn seezing Tyrion was such a boss move

Everyone is a stranger till you spend a bit of time with them. You'll find yourself invested in some soon enough and wary toward others. Or worse. It'll come. I'm loving your journey. You're paying the sort of attention that this work is worthy of. Good on ya.

Yeah, the history is being constructed from bits and pieces of a hundred and one conversations, like what happened to the father and brother of Ned and what happened with the "Mad King", etc., etc.

Don't worry about the learning curve, the roller coaster is still going up.. you're almost at the tipping point where the 'fun' begins.. And yes, the mother of the kid that was pushed out the window is Lady Catelyn Stark. the son is Bran.

The show can be overwhelming when you first start watching it with all the different characters and settings but you'll learn them and then you'll love the show just like we all have. At least you dont have to go a year in between seasons like we did lol. Best show ever !!!

The first History and Lore is brilliant. Doing the others is whatever imho. But the first gives such worldy context in the first half hr (half tall tales and lore/ actual History (The First Men/The Nights Watch/The Andals/The Doom/Aegons The Conquerors Conquest) and the second half hr/20 mins really goes into Roberts Rebellion (17 yrs before the start of the show)(the time alot of the characters are referring to - The Mad King) Its also narrated from the characters perspectives! (There is no copyright either you dont have to worry about that aspect too.) Either way, Always a pleasure. Keep up the excellent work 🤩

Funny thing is that ser Hugh (or at least a stuntman for this scene) falling from the horse and the horse falling was a surprise for the cast, so it is their natural reaction lol

25:01 Something you might want to try that I have seen other RU-vidrs do for this series is make a Love, Like, and Hate list. Basically listing characters in different categories and giving reasons why they are putting them there.

They often mention lat events to crane the characters motives. If you read the books, watch histories/lore, or watch the show a 2nd time it makes WAY more sense. It’s very worth watching histories and lore before season 2

There's no narrator, so they give you back story through the small exchanges between people where they describe the past. Those things will turn be useful at a later time. All information is crucial in this series, that's why we love it so much 😄

This show gives really fantastic arcs to most characters, so you will surely grow to like at least a portion of those who are currently unlikable (though certainly not all). Ned and Cat's kids in order of birth are Rob, Sansa, Arya, Bran and Rickon. Jon Snow is only about 6 months younger than Rob.

To keep it brief, you do have a long journey ahead of you 😊. Watching Game Of Thrones is much like reading several novels all packed into multiple seasons with so many characters undergoing their character development and they slowly stitch things together. I understand the story development is quite slow and can be annoying initially, since the characters are establishing themselves in order lay the foundation for the story to pick-up, I presume. The show right now is still at it's infancy and I don’t think any of us expect you to understand it, but rather experience the emotional roller coaster it takes you though, until a point comes where you were like, "I know exactly why the character is here and how each other is connect to each other and what led them to be there", that's an amazing feeling. I swear when you reach there is quite brilliant to see how they pieced all of this together quite well. I guess all I would say is keep going and you learn as you go until you are so hooked you can’t let go. Oh and as far as a few characters are concerned, Ned Stark (Lord of Winterfell), Lady Stark (his wife), his 2 daughters (Sansa and Arya Stark - the little one you like so much 😊), Brandon Stark (the Cripple), Tyrion Lannister (The Dwarf with a mouth who got himself into some trouble 😋), Jamie Lannister (Mr. Perfect Hair)... I guess rest, as the story comes in.✌

I would say as a general rule for GoT the first 3 episodes are always kinda slow. I called it "setting the chessboard". Showing the viewers where the "pieces" were & what they were up to or what they wanted done. Then the next 3ish episodes would be pushing the plot forward. The next 3 would be the buildup & climax. And the final episode is for resolution and teasing what may go on for next season. But yeah, the first 3 episodes of the series is a LOT to take in. It's a crash course into the series.

27:27 There is animation they did for the lore of the Game of Thrones series, done per season, using the actors who play the parts to give the character's perspectives on different background elements. It might be something you can watch at the end of each season to feel more informed.

I was overwhelmed w/all the names and family’s when I started watching GOT too. Don’t b concerned, relax and enjoy all the story-lines. Before u know it, everything will fall into place and at some point u’ll b rattling off the family names and who belongs where in ur outro’s.

Note: This series introduces a plethora of new characters all the time, so learn these current characters well so you won't be overloaded on who's who later. You do have some time before this gets started, but don't too wait long.

It might be a good idea to look up a map of Westeros, Stef. It would give you an idea of where the places are in relation of things. House Targaryen had conquered and unified the Seven Kingdoms and had command of dragons but were overthrown by the other houses. Now the two surviving heirs have been exiled to Essos, which is to the east of Westeros across the Narrow Sea. A single mature dragon was quite formidable and a terrifying sight as Tyrion Lannister has said, but they have long vanished and now are but a distant memory. So now House Baratheon now rules in an alliance/marriage with House Lannister and House Stark and other Great Houses that make up the Seven Kingdoms on Westeros. So basically the show is about the politics of power. Glad you’ve taken a liking to Arya Stark (the daughter whose name you forgot 😊).

You're doing just fine Stef. Its been like 13 years i guess since i watched for my first time and im positive i struggled with remembering all the names and locations also. Its a lot being thrown at you right off the bat, but it does get easier with every passing episode. Im enjoying watching you and your reactions to the surprises and plot twists that this show does so very well. As always, i cant wait for the next one... As others have said, there is a history and lore video for each season. I found them very helpful in piecing this grand puzzle together. Whether you react to them or not, i might suggest that you watch them. You'll see how rich this tale really is.

The gist of what you need to know about the past is the last king was Targaryan, he and his family killed a bunch of Starks, so Starks and Baratheons joined together to rebell. Lannisters were sorta with the Targaryans, until Tywin decided to turn on the Targaryans in the end. Jaime was kings gaurd and killed the King. Robert Baratheon took over as king, and married a Lannister (he wanted Lyanna Stark, but she died so there werent any Stark women left).

The intro tells you where the story is taking place this episode.

I almost quit in season one. It’s quite the understatement to say that once I finished the series, I considered it , and still do to this day, one of the best series I had ever seen . I predict you will have some of the most intense, unpredictable , incredible moments in the episodes and seasons to come , and will be happy you went on this journey 🔥👍🏻

Just a recap of the past timeline/lore so far (should be no spoilers, just expanding on stuff that's been said but subtly): Roughly 300 years ago: Targaryens (Danis family) conquers the seven kingdoms of Westeros with dragons and makes them into one nation under the Iron Throne, and rule until.... 20ish years ago, the king gets insane and despotic, leading to a rebellion led by Robert when he hears the kings son Rhaegar had kidnapped and raped his fiance, Neds sister, Lyanna. As Robert wins on the battlefield, Jaime kills the Mad King. Since he was part of the king's trusted bodyguard, he has this stain of dishonor even though everyone is secretly happy that he did it. Dani and her brother are smuggled across the ocean, the last heirs to the Targaryens regime. Robert marries Cersei to secure her father's money to help finance his new reign. Ned returns from the war with a bastard son, the only uncharacteristic strain on his own well known honor. 10ish years ago, a small island kingdom ruled by the Greyjoys rebels against Roberts rule and is put down. The only surviving heir, Theon, is taken to Winterfell as hostage as part of the peace settlement.

Between eqch season, you should watch the game of thrones history and lore video for that season! It really helps with understanding the world and the characters involved and helps enjoy the show even more! They are all on RU-vid!

There is a LOT of detail hidden in the dialogue, especially in the first few seasons.

The names, and locations, and political affiliations are quite a bit to handle. I've seen people that are brand new to the series take a couple of notes just for references for names, and which "house" they are associated with, and it seems to help them. I'm not suggesting Stef do this, or if she does, to take mountains of notes; but a sort of cheat sheet quick reference guide may help.
