Here is a history of Montana-Young that is sadly forgotten or overlooked. At the end of the 87 season, in game 14 Joe got hurt against the Bears early. Young came in. He dominated immediately and the 49ers won like 45-0, and finished out the season winning the final three games 45-0, 35-3, 42-0, or something like that. No joke. Look it up. The team with Young was unstoppable. Then, Joe came back for the Vikings game in the Divisional round and lost. Had Walsh stuck with Young, the Niners likely would have won the SB that year. History could have been a lot different. Montana is very lucky that Walsh went back to him and gave him another chance.

Steve Young was definitely before his time and back then was a different era of Football. QB’s running the Ball was very frowned upon. As that was part of the Reason Tampa Bay didn’t realize what they had. A lot of good football players were on those Tampa Bay Teams and found success in the League after their departure from the Buccaneers. Young capitalized on that moment and became a Super Bowl Champion Forever, along with turning in a respectable Hall of Fame Career at Quarterback.

I was too young for the 70's NFL but the mid 80's, all the 90's and into the 2000's was excellent NFL football.... then it changed, but I also noticed NHL hockey changed, MLB changed, same for the NBA... and all for the worst, a lesser quality of players and games played, but what also changed... was me.

Washington won. Following season they traded Joe to Kansas. It's not like they (or Steve) had the choice. 93. Steve, Joe and Bono were all competing for that role. Players were divided. That's nothing new. Joe requested trade. I get what you mean that if Joe stayed and started then maybe but also maybe not. Dallas was just that dam good those two wins and I'm a Giants fan.
