I definitely think you should combine the two channels. People are here to see you and listen to what you have to say, I don't tune in just to learn about products, I want to hear from you.... and I think a lot of people feel that way.

You perform a public service by being honest and real about what your life is like. The pernicious Instagram images of the perfect life, the filtered face, the perfect body and clothes, the perfect mom, the fabulous vacations, etc etc are toxic and destructive. Certainly do whatever you need to do to make it better for yourself, but also try to be kind and generous to yourself. You live a life of complexity, something a creative person often craves but it can sort of collapse now and then. You are absolutely lovely under any circumstances.

A wise man once told me that when we finally get to the point where we are asking for advice on a topic, our hearts already know the answer to our questions. I think you should write each of your options on bits of paper, set them on the table in front of you, concentrate hard for a moment, and then pick one up. The moment you pick it up, you will know what method to use, whether it is the one in your hand or one on the table, your gut instinct will kick in. Trust your gut. After all, you're the one who has to tolerate your decision day in and day out. It might as well be a decision that lights up Your world. If your world is illuminated because you are happy with your choices on your own terms, you will light up ours by default. You're doing a beautiful job. Whatever path you choose will simply perpetuate that. xx

I think you should do what works for YOU as we will be fine and follow along regardless. Having the titles be self explanatory would be marvellous for those who have a preference. I would just say Ruth, please give yourself small goals as you go along....like cleaning out your underwear drawer and/or donating the maternity jeans. Success breeds success in these little ways but it’s all a journey my dear so try not to give yourself lofty ephemeral goals like “eating better” or “doing exercise” . Maybe try a pantry clean out and stock up on things that will help you: frozen veg and fruit, canned exotic veg, legumes and fancy tomatoes that will excite you when it comes time to cook. Find one online exercise you think you could try even once in a room by yourself or research and then experiment with different physical activities until you find something you love. Hope I don’t sound too preachy but small, concrete changes will buck you up. ❤️🇨🇦

What a lovely video, feels like listening to a friend sharing her thoughts, love it! I just wanted to say that possibly how you are feeling with life in general could be attributed to your grieving for your Dad, so please be kind to yourself. That sadness, together with sleep deprivation would make the loveliest of people grumpy! I think this is a transition time for you in lots of ways, so perhaps gentle, gradual changes is the best approach? Combining the two channels makes sense, and I think the 'labelling' of content would be a good approach. Look after yourself Ruth, take care and make sure your treat and pamper yourself as well as looking after your lovely family - and if the occasional magnum makes you happy, well good for you!! Love and hugs xx

We've gotten more Mr. AMR in this one than in all previous glimpses/sound utterings prior! I have been in a treading water phase for almost two years, and it is dangerous because one loses oneself amid all of the necessary activities and obligations to a degree that can feel scarily _permanent_ . My sympathies. Do whatever you need to do to regain balance and restore sanity to your life, Ruth, including harmonizing the channels. The one tip I can give you is to start NOW, making easy, incremental changes in diet, exercise, rest, work, family nurturing behavior as you encounter them. When you do or see something that irritates/frustrates you, think about one thing you can do about that immediately to improve it, and do it. Good luck! TFP : )

I think it's very common and very easy to feel overwhelmed in today's world. My best advice is to streamline, simplify and organize as much as possible. Whether it's clothing, specific pantry items, children's toys, excess PR goodies or additional social media platforms... simplify and organize whatever "stuff" that clutters up our environments, our lives, and causes unnecessary stress! Needless to say, combining both channels certainly gets my vote. I enjoy all aspects of what Ruth Crilly/A Model Recommends/The Uphill has to share, so I don't see any issues whatsoever. For those that have issue of not wanting to watch certain videos or read certain blogs, keeping everything clearly and specifically labeled should solve that easily enough. I also fully believe in getting assistance with anything that makes our quality of life better, if it is something you can comfortably afford! Whether the assistance is someone to watch the children, clean the house, weed the garden, mow the lawn, wash and wax the car, iron the clothes or deliver the groceries... wherever you can find additional gifts of time with your family, or time necessary to get your work accomplished or time to pursue other things you deem important, is paramount. Simplify and organize wherever you can reasonably simplify and organize. A chaotic environment causes a chaotic mind and additional stress. Less is often so much more!

I'm watching your video, I am smiling from ear to ear and just going - yeah, I get that...I'm older than you and it's a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly challenge. You are so stunningly beautiful and are lovely and charming and so very good as a lifestyle influencer! Just remember you are probably spending more than 80% of your time worrying about less than 20% of what really matters. While we don't see the mister, it is pretty clear you have a wonderful relationship and the only advise I would ever give you or any one else is do what is in your heart. Take little steps and before you know it, you will be accomplishing what you are worried about! Warm regards!!!!

Whatever is easiest for you Ruth. You’ve had a lot on your plate and been bereaved too. X I ended up crying at the GP last year being spread too thin (work/renovation/motherhood). She gave me a blood test and I was vitamin D deficient but apart from that she encouraged me to concentrate on 3 small goals a day. It helped me feel I was achieving things.

Throw away/pack away all the REALLY comfy stuff but don't go mad, clothes that are too snug will just emphasise your unhappiness with your post-baby body (which by the way, is lovely...look at what it DID). I use the myfitnesspal app to track my diet...its very easy and just makes me think about what goes in my gob!

I have been away for awhile and tuned in to your channel and remembered what I always liked about you--your absolute relatableness (is that even a word?). It is so refreshing and lovely. I am also struck by the intelligence of my fellow subscribers and what sound advice they give. As someone else said, people tune in to see YOU, not products, and that is absolutely true for me. So combining your channels is, I think, a brilliant idea, especially if it streamlines your life.

Yes, I definitely think you should combine the channels. I remember you saying you like to be in control so you don't want anyone to help you organize, but I have an idea that worked for me. My house took on a life of it's own and I couldn't seem to get it together. My niece said let me work with you, that it would be fun. So she came over every Tuesday night for six weeks and she was right! It was fun being with her. We cleaned out and organized everything and I feel like a cloud has lifted!

Sounds like you need some headspace! Some proper you time that isn’t child or work related to really decide what you’re going to focus on. A weekly yoga class sounds like a good idea! I boxed up all my top big & maternity clothing, got rid of anything I was never going to wear again in a million years, and stored all my “too small but want to wear” clothing so it didn’t make me depressed! I then got a personal shopper to help me create a post baby capsule wardrobe that I loved. Being more comfortable in my new wardrobe pushed me to make my body better so I could eventually get back into my “too small clothes.” Im now pregnant again so back in my maternity clothes, but I’m definitely doing it again after. Also you should definitely combine your sites. You’re one person, most of us love all of you, those that don’t can pick and chose what they read! Excuse the essay, you’re doing great! X

I ADORE your deliberation and narration in this one, Ruth! I feel quite a lot the same. Also, I'm not affiliated other than as a happy user of the app, but I suggest taking a look at Plan to Eat, it lets me collect favorite recipes, index 'em, and plan them out over the week, plus it lets me assemble a shopping list, and see the recipe while I cook if I want to, or print it out to cook by. And if I freeze some portions, it will keep me updated about that too. I really feel like cooking more at home is helping me get fitter and healthier! Love you!

So many of us are moms, regardless of ages. Combine the two, if it isn't for me it is easy to skip or fast forward. By the way, it is AWESOME to hear you really recognize that your children will only be small for a short, short season! Love on them, wear big joggers...when they are 15, you will not regret that you weren't at your pre-baby weight/size when they were 3. Sit on the floor, get dirty, go to the beach, dig in the dirt, when you blink they will prefer their friend/spouse/kids to you and trust me it comes too quickly. Thanks for showing us that we are all alike in our struggle with home/work/family!

I have two special needs girls and I’ve done a lot of organising and rethinking exactly like you’re saying here to keep me sane and make things workable instead of just surviving all the time. 1) Mr. AMR is hilarious! 2) Last year, I had serious depression and health issues- I was a stagnant lump. And I ate BADLY - chips almost every day, lots of alcohol, lots of crappy refined sweets, almost ZERO exercise. It all crept up! After surgery and recovery, I have been slowly regaining my energy. Now I am ready to make necessary changes, starting with cutting down on alcohol and chips, and easing back into exercise. So I feel you with the diet and exercise! 3) I would really like to see everything on one platform- it would be easier to remember! :-)

Hello Ruth! What I have always loved about A Model Recommends is how real you are, so combining The Uphill with AMR seems a natural fit in this case. Whenever I watch your videos, I feel as though I've had a chat with a friend, weather it's reviewing a makeup product, watching a vlog, chatting about food/diet/home decor, or talking about babies and pets. Go ahead and combine the platforms, simplifying is usually the best path to serenity!

Absolutely would LOVE to see everything on one channel! Sometimes I forget to check both, and I feel like I'm missing out. I wouldn't worry too much about mixing them if I were you; people are only going to click on whichever posts spark their interest anyway. And like you said, if you still feel the need to separate them, you could use tags in the subject line (such as "BABY: ___", "BEAUTY: ___", "JUST RUTH BEING RUTH: ___", etc.). But you do you, girl! Whatever's easiest. And I wish you all the best with your family and health. Thank you for sharing so much with us! You have a gift for writing and entertaining, and it's always such a joy to follow your posts.

You might want to buy a few nice things that fit you now and make you feel attractive and pretty. Not a whole wardrobe, but something that makes you feel put together. Then have a day or two for just comfy clothes. Having 6 kids, my body was in a constant state of evolution of sizes. I totally hear you. Also, getting out of the house with the kids helped me. - As for both sites combining, it might be less stressful if combined , perhaps just title them accordingly.

I think what you're feeling is very very normal. I have a nearly 3 year old and 18 month old twins. I'm knackered all the time. I can't see the floor in any room in my house, the day that I work I practically fall asleep at my desk and I haven't cooked a "healthy" meal in about a year. But I just think it's ok, it'll get better and this time only happens once. I started fencing one night a week a couple of months ago and wow its made a huge change to how I feel about myself. It will get easier. Hang in there!

I found myself in a similar clothing/diet/figure situation after having my daughter. After two years, I'd had enough. I purged all the stuff that was too big and too small then bought new stuff that fit AND made me feel good. It did wonders for me not seeing those things that don't fit every day. I stopped buying things I don't want to eat and I don't shop hungry if it can be helped. Stay strong you'll get there. Don't forget to be good to yourself and tell yourself when you need to "good enough".

This was a super interesting vid. I have 2 things I want to share with you Ruth, 1/ if you move everything to a new site, please talk to a SEO consultant so you don't start from scratch and lose the benefit of all your years of work (just moving posts won't work, this has to be planned). and 2/ for working women, especially with young kids, the only way to get more of your working time and your kids time is your support system. Which of course is the nanny, but can also be : a virtual team to help with work, a cleaner, someone who does grocery shopping for you, using Hello Fresh etc... we think it's excentric, but it makes a huge difference in the quality of life so when we can afford it I think we always should. Best, Mariella xx

Oh Ruth thank you for sharing your thoughts, feelings with us women from all over the world. I believe we all go through every point you have made! Families, sick children, hormone changes, partners/spouses, weight fluctuations, clothes, diet, mint magnums (I'm eating one as I type this), working in and out of the home... The list goes on and on. We sorta lose our focus and sense of what we want. Add social media, world and community events, and our friend's problems it is a wonder we don't lose it. You aren't going mad, my dear. You, like many of us, are overwhelmed, trying to find time for yourself, and maintain some balance. Take a breath. Get your sexy back (box up those maternity clothes). Eat to feel better, take walks while you figure out what exercises you enjoy, and make your work life easier by combining all websites/platforms into one beautiful, informative, inspiring, masterpiece only you can provide. We will read it, appreciate it, and thank you for it. And you Ruth, will continue to be a phenomenal woman.

Clicked on this immediately because I’m feeling the same way! A few ideas: focus on one change until it’s done. Closet clear out this week, meal planning launch next week, etc Also, put your CEO hat on and ask yourself if you would pay yourself to do that task or are you overqualified? Can someone else be hired to do it? Can it be delegated or not done at all? It sounds strange but that distance can really help me see what needs to change. Good luck! ❤️

Basically letting the Mum/Dad/Carer talk through how they feel and by using certain questions get them to find their own solution...very empowering for parents...) * and no us HVs don’t just weigh babies and drink tea 😂 Keep doing what you do Ruth because your honesty shines through xx

Everything together would definitely reduce the stress on you. I do know a lot of people with channels with separate the 2 mostly as a way to make more money but at some point you have to go hey what is easier for me and what would I enjoy doing more. It would also enable you to maybe shift more into lifestyle products etc to review not just makeup and give you a new market to aim for, by casting one net wider than having two smaller nets to catch viewer attention as it where.

Ruth, I subscribe to both of your channels. I was an AMR follower first, then subscribed to the Uphill out of empathy due to my own infertility journey (and the fact that you are just enjoyable to watch!). Your question made me think about the difference between my friends and acquaintances on social media, where I see all the posts regardless of topic, and professionals on the same sites. Professionals can seem aspirational, but sometimes one-dimensional because of the compartmentalization you mention. Seeing all of your content integrated in one place has a broader appeal to me than the individual videos or posts that I see on each of your channels. It anchors your recommendations, regardless of genre, in the context of your current life. I know if you recommend something for beauty it's going to WORK because you don't have time for mediocre products. If you indulge in something that takes extra time, I know it's worthwhile for the same reason. And while I don't have kids, understanding how you balance things that pull you a bit thin is so relatable to me. So, long way to say, "do it!"

Definitely one platform! I'm mostly interested in your baby / parenthood content (because I've just had a baby) watch all of your videos because I love to hear you chat, you really crack me up! Also your beauty content is really nice to watch :) xx

I think that’s a fabulous idea; amalgamating the two. I watch both, despite being childless (by choice) and having no desire for children but I do enjoy the insight into your family life and your gorgeous kiddies and pets (not in a creepy way!) And I also completely love all things beauty related. It would be easier to have all of this in one place and as you say, if you title the content then people can choose whether it’s something they wish to view. You could even set up a competition for suggestions title wise for the combined channel - e.g. ‘Ruth Crilly: a mother and model recommends’ or something like that. However you decide to do this it’s a great idea!

Think the one platform is the way to go with explanatory titles which would be helpful. Getting some help to do the decluttering and re-organising is a must with you as ‘driver’ - I did that when I planned a house declutter last year and it was amazing, halved the time spent and made it easier to make decisions. Now I de-clutter, on my own, regularly, all about making the house and me lighter! Stress is a horrible thing and the body can only survive for so long, years even, but cracks can appear and your physical health can suffer, speaking from personal experience. But, you have a lovely sense of humour and optimism and family, you’ll get there!

I’ve been nodding my head in agreement this entire video! I feel you so much with this stressful phase of life with small children and just trying to get out of survival mode. Anything you can do to simplify is great. I’d love to see all your content in one space if that makes it easier for you to continue to provide us with insight and laughs on a regular basis. Hang in there!!

Hi Ruth, I've been following you for years, I watch all your videos, read your posts, follow you on social media, everything. I love your style, personality, content etc. As a single mum of 2 with 3 different blogs (several moments of madness!) I completely get where you're coming from. I think it's a great idea to put everything into one, I personally quite like Ruth Crilly Recommends..... Think it has a certain ring and familiarity to it. And I bet your content schedule and work load will streamline itself almost over night! Hope that helps and can't wait to see what you do next. 😘❤️💕

I like the idea of having one channel with the labels. Also, I can completely relate with the diet struggle. I don't have children but I have recently moved, started a new job, and my fiance is trying to immigrate to the US. I have different stresses but they have definitely affected my sleeping schedule, diet, and fitness regimen. I find that a journal is the most helpful for me. I really love the Daily Greatness journals. I practice yoga and use the yoga journal. It prompts me to think about aspects of my character, habits, goals, etc. Set realistic goals and follow your instincts. Don't beat yourself up when you have those bad days like your baby being sick and you don't sleep well. S*** happens in life. good luck, Ruth!!

Streamline away Ruth! , I'd love to have all your stuff in one place. I personally watch A.M.R and the uphill, but I must say, I've found the uphill stuff really really engaging and helpful to me lately. I think it's your openness on there that has made the difference for me. P. S We all want you to feel you have less on your plate and if combing your channels takes even a tiny bit of pressure away then it's worth it! We'd be here for you on one or twenty one channels x

I love your chatty videos and enjoyed the wander round your beautiful home. I'm in a similar place with the whole clothes/exercise/diet thing. Just done the height v waist measurement (piece of string to measure your height, waist should be no more than half that length). I'm sure you are fine but it had me realising "things have got to change" and yes, no more buying biscuits so I can't eat them!! I'm all for simplicity and think amalgamating your websites makes sense and would be less hassle to maintain. Thanks Ruth and good luck with your changes! xx

Dear Ruth, thank you so much for this. I understand exactly what you mean. Finding the right balance is not that easy. I too find it difficult to switch off and even after I’ve slept, I never feel 100% rested. You must do what is right for you and your family. The diet element is a must. Ok, diet is a horrible world. Call it a lifestyle change. It will be good for you if you really want this. What does Mr AMR say/think? For you my dear I will say this, don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. Please keep The RU-vid channel but put everything under the same channel under either Uphill or Model Recommends. Whatever you do, please don’t go away. Love and hugs, Neil

Oh Ruth, I have been there, done that. I am considerably older than you. I went through exactly the same feelings. You will never regret spending time with your kids. Excellent choice. Before you know it they are off to college and all grown up. Once they reach school age you will be able to find more time for yourself. I promise. Right now it is hard because you lose yourself in your kids and you are use to it all being about you and your husband. Kids change so much of our lives. Look at this time as your new normal. It gets better. They become more and more independent and sometimes that's hard too. You're are just fine and extremely normal.

Hi Ruth! I have given this a lot of thought overnight. There is so much pressure on us to do everything and be everything for everyone and when we find out that it’s simply not possible, we feel a total failure. You have to make the choice to do what is MOST best for you and your family. You may not get the balance right all the time, and you will probably question yourself over and over again. I think that is what it means to be an adult in this world. Take care and be happy!
@VikFlik84
@VikFlik84 6 лет назад
I could talk for hours about this overall topic of the pressures we feel and changes to make us feel better. I’ve recently had to make some changes as I’ve been feeling like I’m reading water (and not very well) for far too long. A few small changes recently have made me feel so much better. And as I feel better I think a few more changes will be helpful. Little steps to make little differences.

I feel like i should have been taking notes of everything i wanted to say back! So 1. I’m a mum and taking a break from career and constantly feel frustrated not working and common amongst lots of my friends- we definitely just need to chill, we will never wish we worked more but will wish we spent more time with our kids/families. 2. I was really struggling with getting back into health and fitness and clothes not fitting, this went on for far too long so i gave in and spent some money on nice clothes that actually fitted. This resulted in me feeling good about myself and actually getting me back on track with diet and exercise! 3. Definitely merge platforms. People will always follow you and can pick and choose what they want to read/watch. Aaaaaaaaand breathe! :)

Ruth you are wonderful for being so open and honest about the issues you are having. Issues that a lot of us have and are having. I can not be on a diet, where portions are watched however I do great on extreme things like WHOLE 30. if you don’t know about that google it or get the book IT STARTS WITH FOOD, it really explains things very well in a way that helps you be strict. it resets hormones and gets cravings under control.

I enjoy all your posts even if they don't relate to me here in Australia. Spoiler alert, you may never get it to run smoothly, but learn to adapt as your family needs will constantly change. On poor Ted, have you considered a diffuser for his room. My whole family use them for different reasons. My daughters use it to help their babies sleep, with teething and illness. Different oils assist with different needs. I use a kiddie calming blend when I babysit all three together that works a treat! Whatever you choose to do with tour channels, l will be tuning in!

Hi Ruth, I am not one to give advise unless it is asked for so I am happy to give you my perspective. First off you always make me smile. You are funny and real and I love watching your Instagram and RU-vid channel. I am a 51 year old mother of 4 adult children. I remember feeling that overwhelmed somethings gotta change feeling about many similar things. What I did- I started saying no. I used to volunteer for everything and it was just too much. I wasn’t rude but I just stopped agreeing to be so agreeable. I did what you said about not buying things I shouldn’t eat. I think diet is a 4 letter word but being healthy (whatever that means to you) is important. I still plan meals for the week and it helps when the kids start to read for them to see it on the fridge. When my kids got older I asked them to help me decide what to make. As far as clothes go definitely get rid of your “comfy” clothes. My mom used to always say you act the way you dress. I am not saying there are times that you can’t wear yoga pants outside of yoga but when you are wearing a pair of jeans and a smart blouse with some lipstick you just feel better and your spirit absorbs how you’re feeling. I do a capsule wardrobe and only keep the clothes I feel good in and it’s less decision making in the morning too. There you go for what it’s worth. Also, I say combine your two efforts and if someone doesn’t want to see the Uphill stuff they can scroll past it, make it easier on you and enjoy those babies! 😘

I originally got upset because of dusty sides in our house then it just catapulted! Totally ridiculous I know. You’re videos are always very real 😊 so thannnk youuuu xx I say combine the two, we can all toggle between the different content x
