Air quality is pretty bad in Almaty to the point that it will affect your health. Even living there for a short period is bad for you. An earthquake in Almaty is imminent the earth plate pressure is high. The way a lot of people are driving is dangerous. Generally, I think people in Almaty are very nice. I don't know if it comes from the soviet past, a humble upbringing or simply Kazakh culture. People still help each other out even if they have very little. The same applies to the low crime rate. Of course, there are the points that you mentioned but overall the positives outweigh the negatives.
@niculaevisan4798

Is Almaty in a seismic zone? When was the last earthquake there and how big was it? I saw images from Almaty and I didn't think it had such a busy traffic as in Bucharest, for example. I'm not talking about bigger and busier cities. So this cannot be a source of pollution. And it is also very close to the mountains, it should benefit from a good aeration. What could be the source of such pollution that you mention?

@@niculaevisan4798 It's a seismic zone. Well for example cars without catalyzers and heating with coal.

I think all of us who have global living experience are clearly cognizant of both the positive and negative aspects of our respective home countries. I know if I listed out the bad aspects of life in the USA, some people (Americans) will act offended and may insult you or even tell you to leave the country if you “‘hate’ this country so much.” They cannot understand our international living experience, because they don’t have a reference point to compare different cultures. I empathize and I completely agree with your perspective. UYAT appears similar to the Japanese sense of HAJI shame. That impacts both sexes but similar to Kazakhstan the onus is primarily on women. Keep on posting. Your site and insights are outstanding.

The bullying and aggressiveness part, I myself can completely resonate to this, can a Kazakh friend here explain here what’s the root cause of this being rude? From a oversea’s Kazakhs point of view(born and raised in Northern China, where there is quite a mount of Kazakh people ,currently living in third country) I can tell,Kazakh are not generally like this, where I lived before the Kazakhs are very friendly, people great each other even they don’t know each other (we have saying the Kazakhs are few, the Kazakh person you meet is either your friends friends or neither’s relative ) just an example, and I can never imagine them fighting for a parking slot. When the Kazakhs from China in the 90s had visited Kazakhstan, they come back and shared their story, I often get to hear people find the Kazakhstani were rude and very cold to talk to, and not welcoming people. That’s very strange, people moved to Kazakhstan to find their real treasures and lost cultures but to find some good traits were lost.

I don't for sure but I would guess part of the reason is mindset and actually what you wrote somewhat proves that. Basically there's a divide between Russians, Russians speaking Kazakhs and Kazakh speaking Kazakhs and a difference between them isn't limited to language but also to mindset and behavior. Kazakh speaking Kazakhs are raised in the way to be modest, shy, considerate and even though that's not always necessarily good (for example as Salta said uyat custom and things that may harden life) that still affects the way they behave they are less likely to yell or be agressive to someone without a proper reason. Russian speaking Kazakhs on the other hand have kind of a "Soviet" mindset that everyone must or must not to do something for them, they are more opened and since life in Kazakhstan isn't the best the thing, what they let out are often negative and bad feelings like aggression.
@ukessex

Ot depends on the region you visit. i.e. in busy cities like Almaty most people don't care about others. In the south people are friendlier comparing to other regions. In the west people seem like they are rude even when they are just talking friendly. On the north people are a bit cold cuz of Russian influence. Some people say I am rude just because I don't talk to them as if I am their best friend and I don't fake smile. PS. This girl has have no idea what life and people are like outside Almaty. If you are a native Kazakh you would understan this: "orystanyp ketken mäñgürt būl qyz öz ana tılınde söyludıñ ornyna qazaqtarmen orysşa söileitin". So not the most reliable source of information.

As I listen more into your videos, your culture is so similar to mine. I am Hmong & a revert to Islam. We ran from China down to Thailand and Laos many years ago and now have settled in the U.S. We still practice the same culture from many years ago in China. Now that I converted to Islam, I know how to seperate my culture from Islam. Practing Islam more and speaking up against the oppression of women.

This is another very late post. It may be, I am an Australian who was planning a visit to your country. However, do I really want to go to a nation where people spit on the streets so frequently, yell and abuse you just to , so it seems make a point, rip you off financially simply because you come from another country? It is my guess, yes, only a guess, however the nation still seems very stuck in the Soviet era way of life, abuse, very high consumtption of alcohol - mainly by males. I really do not know if I have any desire to visit the country now.

Not only. He mentioned beliefs in "bad eyes" or the misfortune brought by the black cat that cuts you off. You can also meet these superstitions in Europe. In România, for example, bad eyes are called ''deochi ''. If you feel bad (usually a headache and / or nausea) it is said that you have been ''deochiat'', that is someone has looked at you with malice or ... with far too much love. So you can do harm even if you love too much 😂 Regarding the black cat, what was her fault if you are a sucker and you don't know how to manage in life or if you had a bad day?🤨 As for the judgment by the community for your behavior, that "it's not allowed to do that", "it's not nice to do that", "it's a shame to do / say ... something (which is not in the habit of the community or to its liking) '' is a basic behavior in the rural area, in our country. Especially in the behavior of the elderly who are much more conservative, more traditionalist.

Regarding the placement of women in the back seats, in the car, this is not disrespect but a measure of protection. The rear seats are always safer in case of an accident. That is why children are also required (at least in the EU) to sit in the back seats and in special seats, when they are very young. As for spitting on the street, it is a bad habit but present in many countries. I think it is somehow related to the migration of the rural population to the city. In the countryside there is no shame in spitting on the field or in the dust of the unpaved street. Once in town, they probably can't get rid of this habit. And they pass it on to their children. Also this concept, уят / shame / rușine exists in many countries that still keep traces of traditionalism and where you are "judged" by the community for your behavior. But in our times ... Уят емес, as the girls from КешYOU say. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nwwnYOCmAUw.html

No2, Just maybe add a note about the sheer amount of sexism towards men too. I'm not Kazakh, but I'm guessing it still applies: men are expected to make a lot of the efforts in society and aren't valued unless they provide and build value: status, money, self-esteem required to make approaches, doing the dangerous jobs, etc. The very word "Patriarchy" is sexist in the first place, as it targets successful men and labels them as a generalization of all men, forgetting in the process all of the other ones who were sacrificed. Example: We keep hearing about the female/male ratio for executive jobs, but not a single word for the sewage and oil&gas operators. Weird huh? It's as if these men don't count?

You've managed to do pretty well for yourself in the "patriarchy". Playing the victim card is not a good thing, this what women in the West do even though they achieve much better academically than men and fresh grads get well paid jobs. If women want equality I wanna see them working in construction, military, police, factories and mining.
@niculaevisan4798
@niculaevisan4798 3 года назад
I don't necessarily want to contradict you, I don't know what country you are from and what your customs are, but I assure you that in many parts of the world, women work in the army, police, factories, construction. Often in parallel with shopping, cooking, washing, raising children, at home. I do not agree with any exaggeration. I do not agree with the already anecdotal exaggeration of some feminists (thoughtless, I say) '' We want to be equal in rights with men but on the condition that we be more equal than them. '' but I do not agree either to not admit that often, a woman's life is harder than a man's. Of course, it also depends on the degree of social and cultural development of the community.
