The Hermes shopping game (it’s not a ‘journey,’ is a game) is by far the STUPIDEST thing ever. “Buy 100k of stuff you don’t really like so maybe, possibly, you could be offered a bag in a size or color that you don’t like.” It’s a handbag version of an abusive relationship. They can keep their stupid bags.
I so AGREE!!!…..come to think of it, other than the Hermes Lindy, I really think the Birkin, Kelly and Constance are straight forward designs, of course there are the good quality leather and craftsmanship, but it really does not warrant a 5 figure sum for some of the Hermes bags, ladies don’t be fooled.
It is 101% not true that you need to buy stuff just to be offered a kelly or a Birkin, it's just happened that the bag is so popular then when you go to France botique they cannot offer/give to you because it's most of the time sold out. But the moment you will tell what you like color, design, the SA will keep that information and will definitely call you and offer you the bag through call then that's the time you'll get your dream bag but it takes a lot of time, and disappointment in the beginning, but the said purchase first any stuff before offer a bag is not totally true
Welcome back lovely! I am a retired F/A (from your airline). About 15 years ago, I stopped buying luxury brands, even “on sale”, books, candles, etc. I basically spent intentionally, before it was even a “thing”. I started putting the money into my 401k and I was able to retire (after flying 30 years) debt free, with a big chunk of change in my 401k. I retired 10 years earlier than the normal retirement age and I am loving life. I applaud you for making the changes AND congratulations on your backyard! 💖✈️💖
Sold all my bags. No interest anymore. Stopped shopping at Sephora etc, drug store only for skincare and makeup. Gave myself a buzz cut 2 years ago. When I moved, realized how much name brand stuff I hardly used. Hair was long and always in a bun and minimal make up but spent so much on hair care make up etc. I am trying to find my one “signature” fragrance, that will be my luxury 😂

I’m so glad I bought luxury items before the crazy price increases. I’m so over the ridiculous prices they charge now for lower quality materials. Every time I get an itch, I will just be more diligent in rotating my current items and learn to just be thankful for what I already have.
Half Price Books - I purchase a book, read it and sell it back. I love physical books and there are great options - libraries, online used, sharing, etc
Yes, the library! Also if you have a kindle or want more audio books, then maybe join a bunch of libraries on your layovers and browse their digital and audio books so you can have a bigger selection.

I bought into the stupidity and bought one preloved for a lot more than retail, guess what! I didn’t feel right, didn’t have the excitement and didn’t care for it plus I felt STUPID, so I sold it after hating what I did, not the bag but what that represented and I lost a lot of money 🙄but never again! I am a chanel lover for years (was my first love and still is unfortunately lol), and I have a sufficient and lovely collection of ONLY what I wear, enjoy and loveeeeee., but I completely agree and understand what you said 😂.

I also have a tip, since you know the products that you want to restock don’t go to the stores order everything you need online that helps me alot with not being tempted to buy anything extra or adding an item I don’t need to my endless wishlist

The Birkin game is ridiculous! So much to go through to then pay a ridiculous amount of money for a bag. I love handbags, but I resolved when I retired last June was not to purchase anymore luxury handbags. I'm holding firm so far!
My best Hermes purchases are from Heathrow Term 5. The most used Hermes items I've actually used are the dinnerware pieces. They are used almost daily. If I have them, I'm going to use them.

I think if you didn’t buy on the secondhand market already then it’s too late now because prices are higher than I’ve ever seen them for definitely the 25 and even the 30s are pretty high. The 25s then all of the most popular colors which are neutrals are going for $30,000 and the size 30 are going for 25,000 and these are obviously both in excellent like new condition. I’m sure you can find better deals if they’re really used and old.

Franny sure loves her Garden 🥰 200 dollars thats quite a saving every little penny counts these days . We gone through abonnement etc stop thoses that were absolutely not necessary any more . Happy 2024, Miss Stella! I'm also staying away from 'Trendy' items like SLG I don't need more of. Or 'It' Jewellery, as everyone seems to have them, they're not unique, are only expensive due to the Brand, and I don't love them. Plus the quality of some Luxury items has been going down so much over the past few years, and they're not worth it. I don't remember they name of it. There is man here on RU-vid who makes leather goods. He takes apart the designer leather goods to see if they are worth the money. Several of the pricier ones had cheap materials in the inside and were way over priced. It was very eye opening for me.
That Chanel lipstick with the gloss is my favorite. I have used it for years. It truly has staying power. I have found nothing else like it. The product lasts a long time and because of that I think it’s a good value.
Same with me. No water bottles. I bought a Yeti last year and I really like. I put some stickers on it and it’s been my go to for the last few months. So I don’t need anymore. That and the other two I use for coffee at work.
Oh Stella, you spoke to me! I went into Cartier about 2 years ago and went in thinking I was going to buy the "love ring" and once there I saw how many people were buying it or wearing it and I had a change of heart. I ended up with the "trinity ring" large model and I love it!

Its good to see you again and fanny, too! Very helpful to think of what not to buy again for this year, its almost like refreshing start. I will have to cut back of not spending of what Im not using it. This year I didn't buy new makeup and skincare, I only buy what I need for daily use.
I do the same thing- I get sucked into buying gift sets and things I don't really need. I love them, but I have more than I could ever use. Bags, but especially Lancomb skin care and makeup. Hopefully my resolve is as good as yours! We can do it!!!
Don't care for the bag, don't like what it takes to get in and out of it. My favorite is my Brahamin bags, affordable, well designed, many different styles and a multitude of colors

I also have a dog, and it's not the best for them, I heard. I'm really loving my candle lamp warmer I got, which makes the candles last longer.

I never got into the high end products but I’ve definitely wasted some money on home scents, etc. my husband and I both agreed this year were completely cutting out the fast food. Hermes Birkin is not for everyone. You have to actually love it and want to use it. Basically you need to know yourself, what you actually like, and what you will actually USE. I don’t feel comfortable walking around w a Birkin in today’s world and also I am not a hand held bag gal willing to shell out that much money. I have 3 Hermes bags (Evelyn, Picotin and Garden Party) and I am happy. I love Hermes leather, craftsmanship and style. I don’t feel the need or am desperate to get a Birkin so I don’t have hard feelings w the brand.
