I love this. We don't talk about consumerism and the new way it's appearing via influencers. And I appreciate this wasn't just about beauty related things. And as an ADHD girly it's so helpful to do chores along with someone else while listening or watching a video
I LOVE THEIFTING BOOKS TOO!!!!!! I have a half Priced bookstore near me that is lifechanging!! but I really need to read the books I have before I buy anymore new ones 😂😂😂
@@indiabatson26 I homeschool my kids and it's so nice having books to just pop off the shelf when needed. My mom has an intense amount of books. It's been so nice for us. So I'm big on buying books. You'll get through them all eventually!
@@emilyevans6989 physical books are where it's at! I'll audible things that I need to finish on a deadline for book club or Bible study, but I definitely choose physical whenever I can. The smell of books... so good.
I love this so much! We definitely need more content like this on the internet. It’s something I’ve been struggling with lately and praying that God will help me resist. I used to kind of mock in my mind those who bought things over experiences (my family had different priorities when I was a kid), but now I understand the grip that consumerism can have on a person and it’s scary. Content like this really helps to break those beliefs when you see someone who has what you want and they’re saying that thing isn’t all it’s made up to be…
I agree that, as a society, we are becoming far too enveloped in consumerism. There are many worthwhile causes out there that need funds. If each person held back on just one impulse purchase they were about to make and instead sent that money to their favorite charity, imagine how much good we could all do together!!!!
Or just put the money in savings for a rainy day or something you may actually need later would be a better way to utilize money versus constant buying
Okay I LOVED this. So needed & so not talked about enough! Also as a side note- I love that you filmed this video vv casual and not wearing or using trendy things while talking about not buying them. Soo refreshing!
I use my local library and Libby/Kindle as well!! I LOVE checking out new books that way. I only spend money on a new book if it's something I know I'll read right away, I can't find it thrift or at the library. Thank you for posting this video! I've been talking about mass consumerism for years now. I understand it's how a lot of bloggers and social media influencers make some of their money, but I usually only follow the ones that recommend products that actually make lives easier/more convenient, and that recommend things at different price ranges. Not just because it's the latest trend or because it's sponsored.
I love this! I stopped watching many influencers I love because its just full of consumerism. That inched you buy I do watch things like this so thank you! I love seeing your personality. We don't need all the things we have. It's just insane all the resources put into sh*t we absolutely don't need and honestly don't want because we stop using it after awhile. We're killing the earth for nothing and it's high time we start doing things differently.
Love this video. I went through a curly hair product junkie phase where I was always searching for the next miracle product and never happy with what I already have 😅. Now I know what my favorites are, I have the same routine, and I buy the same products when I run out. Feels like I’ve freed up so much mental energy not having to find and research the next thing.
Just mix Jamaican black castor oil, cold pressed organic coconut oil, a handful of curry leaves and some fenugreek seeds. Heat until the colour changes to greenish. And your hair elixir is ready. This oil helped me reverse my telogen effluvium and hair loss due to chemical treatment.
India we REALLY need videos like this that speak about de-influencing and the impact influencing and subsequent consumerism that is permeating our society. I fell into this trap. Influencers make it very convincing - they'll tell you you HAVE to try this product, you NEED this hack in your life or you won't get hair like them or skin like them if you don't have this. We tend to get excited with it and buy it only to be disappointed it was SO hyped up.
Diamond engagement/wedding ring. It is not an “investment”. Just get something you like even if it’s inexpensive Most vitamins and supplements=expensive urine. You don’t need boujie custom vitamins Any “mystery bags”. It’s always the stuff that they couldn’t sell. My husband would like to add all hair growth serums. Haha
I love this idea. I wish more influencers did this! Last year, my husband bought me the caraway pots and pans set. Was not impressed. Was sad because I was bombarded by adds and influencers who shared them like crazy. But it did not live up to exceptions. I don't mind the product placement but I like idea of saying what actually works and doesn't! Thanks and love your content.
I don't use social media like Instagram or TikTok so I have no idea what's going on there and don't care either. I don't buy things based on what's popular. I do agree with you about buying books. I have way too many that I still need to read. ☺️
One of the things that I’ve been trying to focus on is my wardrobe. To have clothes that will (in a sense) transcend the times. I think that is called “capsule wardrobe.” Anyways, you made some really good points, especially the eye shadow palette 😂 thanks girl
Love this, we need to normalize being content! I’ve notice since I got instagram about a year ago my online shopping and desire for new stuff has skyrocketed! Granted, I return 95% of what I buy but it’s still wasting my time and resources to buy crap I don’t need
I am hereeeeee for this 😂 (What’s hilarious is that this morning I commended to my husband that I think I’ve decided that the airwrap is worth it to me 😂 that being said, I bought mine pre-owned from a friend for $300 so… I think if I were going in today, I’d get the shark version 😅)
Hey, if you love it and it works great for you and it’s worth the splurge. I love that for you 😍😍😍 same thing goes to anything in this video that I say isn’t worth it, maybe it’s worth it for you😍😍
So... I bought the conair hairdryer u have because of the diffuser. Best diffuser ever. I just returned the curlsmith dryer cause it may have been a bit faster but nothing compares to that diffuser ! And it was 20$ on Amazon.😊
I agree so much that things don’t make us happy. I also love Libby! I feel the issue is less about things being expensive and more about purchasing with intentionality. I bought the Dyson air wrap (the first one, refurbished from Dyson outlet online). For me, it was worth it because I literally hadn’t bought a pricey hair tool since 2006 (Chi flat irons, anybody?) This also replaces a few hair tools. Do I think everybody needs it? No way, but for my hair texture, it makes doing hair easier & I get so much less heat damage. Worth it for me. But I did tons of research and thought about it for years. I didn’t just see it and run to buy. You can also pry my air pod pros from my cold, dead hands lol. But those are a huge quality of life enhancer for me. (I have adhd and have to have brown noise & sound drowned out to get things done. I use them in the gym & they pair seamlessly w my phone.) But again, all this is done with intention & not because it’s trendy. I buy what works for me & save up to buy what matters. That’s the important thing, I think
“Are we folding our underwear now?” 😆 (I do.) Looove the library and Libby app (for audiobooks -in fact, just started Carrie Soto!) As someone who reads 100+ books/year, but also loves trees, rediscovering the local library was perfect! 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚
I bought a letter jacket back when I was in high school! 🤦♀️. Only wore it for part of my senior year and the year after I graduated, and then after that, it was completely uncool to wear it! Years and years later, it still hangs in my closet. 🤪
Oh my gosh, this is so funny because I remember wanting a leather jacket so bad and my parents telling me that I wouldn’t wanna wear my high school jacket in college and that they wouldn’t buy it for me. And I remember being so upset lol 😂😂 but maybe they were wiser than me at the time😂😂😂
I’m glad I never fell for expensive trends. Reminds me when fitbits were the rage 8 years ago. I lost 30 lbs on my own through diet and walking on my own. I didn’t need a $300 device to tell me to take more steps 😆
I think it’s amazing you didn’t get it and were able to achieve your goals without it ! You go girl 🫶 I will say I personally have the Apple Watch and helps me to stay active, but everyone is different ✨
SM(simple modern) is my very favorite brand….I set mine on the counter Friday evening, Monday morning when I needed to wash it & take with me…it still had ice in it.
I have hair products coming out of every orifice that I still haven't used after I splurged upon starting the curly girl method. I use Olaplex No. 3, Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate pre shampoo treatment, and Living Proof Triple Bond Strengthening Complex. I bleached and frylighted the shit out of my hair earlier this year which lead me to use those at least every other week.
Our hair it’s probably the same. I have really strong hair but I get a lot of highlights to match my gray. I really appreciate that the things you’re telling us especially about the Dyson.
Thank you for this video. I totally agree about Dyson. I bought it because it was so hyped out (and mind you that was before I discovered that my fluffy hair actually wavy/curly). I bought it at the same time as I coloured my hair, fried it to the point it was breaking up, went in a journey to healthy hair with CGM, only to discover my hair is wavy/curly - exactly how I was styling it with Dyson 😂😅 yes… the hair I aspired for - is the hair that I can naturally get if I just add some styling to it. So, now I just some times do blowouts so that I can justify having it… but yes I totally regret buying it.
The always pan 😭 it’s beauty got me but it did not last at all. Threw it away a few weeks ago after having it just a little over 2 years. And I don’t even cook that much. Womp!
India: "You don't need to buy new books ...: Me: *thinks of the 1100 books on my shelf, and then to the 4 bags of books in my car from my community book sale this past weekend*: 😳 Also, on palettes: I really like Toups & Co, because not only are they a super clean skincare and makeup brand, but you can buy the eye shadow pots and palette separately, and the pots are magnetic so when you use up your favorite you can replace just that one.
thank you for all your informative videos. :). btw, watching Seduction & Snacks again. You are so cute! I think you did a pretty darn good job in that movie. Its actually pretty doggone funny!!! Are there any more movies? It's okay if you prefer not to talk about it, I understand.... just wanted you to know i laughed a lot and enjoyed the movie.
Why didn't I watch this video earlier? Amazon black Friday book deals got me.....I ordered 12 books, people! and I even had a hard time narrowing it down to 12.
Bless you 🤧 Can we just give the dog some appreciation 😂 My dogs are on the same level. They are only obedient for food. They clearly understand the command because they will comply for a dog treat. But the rest of the time they look at me as if to say a big fat NOPE 😂😂
Super guilty that I have an enormous library full of books that I bought and haven't had the time to read 😂😂 I did study English Lit. at Uni so a lot of them are from that era (like 10 years ago)..I had to stop buying them at one point...I still have the urge when I go into a book store or thrift store 😊 I really need to start reading them...maybe I'll set myself an achievable goal 🤔
Can anyone recommend a good diffuser? I have a decent one but it's really really loud and I want something a little less like a jet engine close to my ear
Honestly ebooks through the library is the way. I’ll buy physical books once I know I love it but I’ve saved so much money on books I wouldn’t recommend or read again by using libby
Love this video! I also am happy to know that the library connects to Kindle. Exciting. I don't regret my designer bags as I take really good care of them. I do think I have too many electronic devices.
IDH WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT LIBBY ON MY KINDLE! Not to be dramatic 😂😂😂😂😂 and I’m so glad that you are happy with your designer bag purchase!! I own two designer bags myself. One that I wear every day of my life and the other is a really special occasion bag. And I’m so happy with my purchases as well! I think designer bags can be a great investment if you choose wisely and go for something timeless 😍😍
I agree on the AirPods. When are you going to use them where they aren’t going to fall out? Oops $100 down the tube! Also the iPod. I don’t know why I bought it. I use it for some things but I really didn’t need it and it wasn’t even on sale.
Don't have Libby books sent to your Kindle, download them to your computer and then side-load them. As a library employee, Amazon is already horrible for libraries, once you borrow a book and have it sent to your Kindle, Amazon takes that data and does whatever it wants with it, sending it to publishing companies. A few years ago Macmillan had an eBook embargo where Macmillan would only allow libraries to purchase one copy of newly published eBooks for the first eight weeks because the CEO had this idea that readers were borrowing more books than buying them. Where did Macmillan most likely get that data? Some libraries even boycotted Macmillan altogether and wouldn't purchase eBook licenses. Another thing is that because of Amazon's exclusivity clause, Amazon doesn't allow libraries to purchase eBook copies of books published by Amazon, libraries also can't purchase any audiobooks that are on Audible either.
Ok but I'm honestly shocked that you haven't been gifted a Dyson or a Stanley with your level of influence. I love my simple modern but still want a Stanley one day
Okay. So, if we’re going to be brutally honest here. . . I don’t NEED or WANT clothes that “ELEVATE” my look. I live on a hobby farm. I work with horses and dogs. I’m a jeans and t-shirts and sweatshirts kind of girl. It’s what I love to wear!
We live in Las Vegas and very close to one of the casinos so we have promotional gifts from there all the time and one of them was a Stanley cup that had the name of the casino on it. I got it for free.😊
Girl that $60 hair oil looks like a dupe for the Curlsmith Shine oil which the Curlsmith Shine oil you can find at TJ Maxx for $13 originally $30 . You're welcome 😉
I don't buy all new things. Cell phone use until it dies. Stanley and yeti cups, don't have because of the price. Paying for the brand name on the cups. Somethings picky about and other things not so picky about.
