Whenever i look at people for something like them wearing something unique or looking unique or anything of the sort, and they look back, i simply smile or smile and wave, it makes them smile back or wave and smile back like 99% of the time!! it makes me happy

If somebody catches you looking at them just smile at them when they make eye contact with you :) you'll feel a lot better People look at other people all the time and it not always awkward. smiling at a stranger is a friendly exchange whereas making eye contact, panicking because they've seen you looking at them and then looking away is awkward. Try to relax and smile and you'll have a much better interaction

When my little sister was about four, we were out shopping and she was staring at a lady who scars on her face. I told her it wasn’t nice to stare becas it could make people uncomfortable. I KID YOU NOT, my little sister gets up and walks over to this woman and asks if she can sit with her. The lady said she could. I walked over in time to see my sister stand up in the chair, hug this lady, and cup her face in her hands and said, “you’re so pretty!” and started giggling. The lady started crying. My sister and I sat with her for a bit and just talked and I think my sister called her beautiful about a hundred times. It was such a heartwarming experience.

As someone who was born with facial defects among other things, I feel like I got lucky with not having to deal with a whole lot of crap growing up. Sure, I got made fun of here and there (still do), but all things considered, people are pretty chill. Just the occasional question of "What happened to your eye, or why do you look like that?" God created me this way and I'm ok with it. You all are amazing

I have four scars on my face from different incidents, but I don't feel like they're too major. They are a scar on my lip when I accidentally cut it with scissors as a kid, one on my eyebrow when I fell into the empty jacuzzi in my backyard, and two on my forehead and the bridge of my nose from when I hit my face on a hot exhaust pipe as a young kid.

Its interesting living in Tasmania where one in every like 100 people has a harelip/cleft pallet cause it really does just become normal. People dont do double takes to make sure they interpreted your face correctly at a glance, they often don't get corrective surgery, they just have a facial feature the way someone has freckles

I don't have a facial disfigurement. But if you have it must be so hard, because it is your face and people communicate by looking at one another's faces. So for instance the lady in blue, her hand is clearly badly burnt and you would normally get around this by concentrating on the person's face when you talk to them. But when it is a facial disfigurement, it is not like you can look at their feet while you chat is it, it is going to be pretty obvious that, that is what you are doing because of the whole discomfort thing. Lady with cherubism, no way that you can disguise that one, but she has become so bad ass as a way of dealing with it.

The plastic surgery is not a stupid question because some symmetries and shapes can be improved to avoid different health issues. Some oral, nasal and neck surgeries are design to improve quality of life.

None of them have anything wrong, they have things that are unique and they can’t change. I have a deformity, as well, and it sucks that society is what makes people like us think there is something “wrong” with us, when we think we’re pretty okay.
