My elementary school principal was the father of that kid who died in nutty putty, his whole family was there and they were yelling back and forth to eachother while he died and the rescuers tried to save him. Every year on the anniversary he’d take the week off and all the teachers would have us write him cards. I remember seeing it in the local newspaper, I can’t believe this story made it to you guys. Shits fucked, he’s a friend of my family and my parents still leave a bag of treats on his door every year.
I recently found out about this due to the fact that fascinating horror did a video on those caves as well. Such a horrifying thought to lose a son like that.
It's pretty known story. I heard it probably like a 1-2 years ago on some popular science channel in a video about caves. I think it's way more unlikely to see someone who knew family of that guy in a comment section of some "anime podcast", than for some people to hear the story on the internet.
Joey asked what life choices makes you decide to be a cave rescue person. In Mexico we have a group of rescuers called "los topos" that were created when a big earthquake destroyed a lot of Mexico city in 1985 because they wanted to save people from the rubble. They have since also traveled to other countries where disasters happen like the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami of 2011.
Speaking of the fear of falling on the tracks, in Romania, where I am from, there's been a pretty massive case where at the metro station, a young girl got pushed on the tracks by another woman that was crazy, and then when she tried to get back up she was kicked and pushed by her back down and nobody had the time to react and help because the metro was just coming and she died on an instant. The woman didn't know her and she just thought she was someone else that she hated and because she was insane she did that and killed a stranger. Needless to say, that case traumatized me, and every time I go to the metro or train station I stay with my back against the wall in a pretty stiff manner.
Thats not a phobia, thats just staying safe lmao. If your in the savannah, what is the reason the reason you don't go out in the wild and leave yourself to be eaten by lions, is it because you have a phobia of lions? No, you just want to be safe. If there are crazy people in romania that could push you off the track then its okay to be careful. Thats not a phobia

What annoys me the most about spoilers and how I’ve been spoiled the most is by manga youtubers who put manga panels in their thumbnails and spoilers in their titles that get recommended to me because I watched a clip of the anime or another manga I was reading.
@@IWantToStayAtYourHouse i believe it's because of the youtube algorithm. probably watched a "no-context aot moments" video, then the manga youtubers with the spoiler thumbnails start popping out in my home page. plus i don't follow any manga youtubers (prolly aside from joey), so i wouldn't know who to block in the first place. thankfully, I've caught up to the AoT manga, partly because I felt it was inevitable to get spoiled in social media anytime soon. so yeah, if i was an anime-only consumer, these manga youtubers would've ruined my day
@@IB21066 it's having to take it off that sucks IMO. if it's a crappy sticker, it becomes a whole repair job trying to remove that damn thing. sometimes it will leave paper/plastic/adhesive residue that gets nasty over time and looks awful if you leave it, in the worst case the adhesive even smears. hopefully, you don't improperly remove the sticker and damage what you have it on.
My grandparents were crawling through this very tight cave space with another group once. If you started freaking out you could not turn back it was so tight and there were people behind you so if you stopped you were stopping everyone behind you. The fact that Reddit includes a 'mark as spoiler' option is amazing. It blurs the content for other users and then warns them, letting them know that it's a spoiler if they try to reveal it. The fact that Twitter and other Social Media is fucking dumb.
Sometimes im dont feel completely safe even with that feature bc there were some moments when the spoiler was in the title and I accidentally glance at it
I relate so hard to Connor right now. He's the friend who argues "Yes, I agree with you, but I'm saying if you can't change it then you have to change or accept this as a problem." He's not saying that this isn't a problem, he's saying that if you know it won't change, and you know that it's a problem, you have to chose to either accept it or change it. And he's experiencing what my friends do too by ignoring that he's saying Garnt and Joey are right. Sometimes you have to give up and watch a show live to avoid spoilers. Or ignore the show until later to watch it. It sucks, but it's how we live now in the on-demand world.
I feel like half the time one of the guys has a differing opinion, the other two just further agree with each other and argue with the guy by not listening or understanding him. :(
I honestly don't see the problem. I have not watched the new season of Attck on Titan at all and I have no problems not getting spoiled. You just have to be carefull when you go online.
The solution to spoilers is to avoid social media, it's extreme but it is 99% effective, I would say 100%, but my friend who doesn't care about spoilers mentioned something offhand that was trending on twitter to me and my brain immediately knew what it was about
Things like AoT is really tragic and completed series as well but I don't mind reading spoiler for some normal shows because.. well, you never know when you're gonna die right?
You don’t have to be off social media. I think you should just stop following accounts related to that specific topic. You could still go on social media without being spoiled.
In my honest opinion, to solve the "spoiler culture" on Twitter, Twitter should have added a spoiler tag feature just like on Reddit, so when someone posts something about a spoiler of a show or anything else with a picture on it, it will be blurred unless you click on the picture or the tweet itself and also make every hashtag from a tweet with a spoiler tag on it doesn't pop up or get into the algorithm of the trending page of Twitter. Therefore people can enjoy the show to the fullest.
@@bruv7521 Are you serious? How about you go off the internet then when you prohibit people talking about a show that has already aired? Garnt explaining the meme-ification of spoilers was literally me and Infinity War. I saw so many memes of people disintegrating and laughed and thought nothing of it. And then I'm in the theater and people started dying and I'm like "Wait-"
I mean the spoiler warning in tweets is like a middle ground, can’t stop ppl from talking about it but they can let you know that they’re talking about spoiler so you’re not lured in
Imagine getting spoiled of a weekly anime show but you still want to go on social media when you know there are spoilers there and feeling angry about it
it's crazy how trash taste helped these bois get recognition beyond just their youtube personalities. Especially for Grant. Good on him for getting his name out there!
There is an easy and obvious solution when it comes to the spoilers and spoiling shit in Twitter honestly. Twitter and Facebook etc just needs to allow people to MARK spoilers in posts and tweets (and memes) so that before you can see the content of a tweet or post, you are explicitly warned that this shit will contain spoilers for so and so series. It's exactly how you have to intenrionally click on explicit media stuff before you can see anything about it. Forums have had this for years with spoiler tags, just allow it in posts and tweets and let the users label that it's a spoiler for this or that. That way most people can tweet explicitly about their reactions or feelings for an episode while at the same time knowing that only those who intentionally click on it will see it.
That's not gonna work for tings that get on 'Trending'. And for things this viral, just like Endgame and Game of Thrones in their time, you really can't avoid it all unless you go on a blackout. To be honest, tho, if something can be spoiled, then it's really not worth watching; my favorite scenes and twists I love to watch unfold plenty of times. So when people get all heated ranting about spoilers when they walk into that wall routinely expecting for the wall to move it seems kinda bratty to me. Also, do people even enjoy twitter? I don't even use it but it literally seems all people who do use it just hate it; spoilers, people arguing or getting backlash, all people do is go through shitty experiences on there, it seems.
Yeah true but probably not gonna happen also it’s kinda dumb of you to assume people will not talk about it just beacuse you want to binge it not watch it weekly
i was diagnosed with social anxiety in college and i've tried to think back to my childhood to see if there was a point that caused it and i can't think of anything. but when i do think back, i see all the 'symptoms' or signs that i've had it for as long as i can remember. it may be from some trauma that i've blocked out. the importance of childhood on people's futures also terrify me in terms of having children. i just don't think i could deal with that
Thats exactly what Ive gone through recently as well. Thinking back and seeing the symptoms of social anxiety and how it affected me as a child/teen, but in my case I know that it's 100% inherited. Most members of my family have had mental health issues and my siblings suffer from similar issues as I do. Not everything is caused by the environment you grow in and majority of people will get through life fine despite any trauma from childhood. How would we survive as a species otherwise? You cant prevent your child from experiencing bad things, but you can help them understand and deal with those things.
I think Connor is right abt spoilers, it doesn’t really matter all that much, but also I’m the type of person who will sometimes just read the last page of a book just for kicks Edit: plus that endgame argument doesn’t really work because endgame is a singular thing, shows air week by week, nobody is going to wait until the end of a season to talk about things.
He isn't right or wrong, it just depends how much you value that fresh experience. For me, it's a massive part of the experience. I won't deny that it'll be good regardless, but knowing that I've missed out on a much better experience actively sucks.
12:26 It’s actually a psychological phenomenon called *sensation-seeking*. There are a few therories about why some people become sensation-seekers but a popular one is that they are born with a naturally higher treshold of neuronal ‚arousal’ so they seek out these dangerous experiences in order to compensate for that.

There is a lot of rock climbing, slot canyons and caves in Utah, and people get into trouble all the time.
I'm immune to spoilers. Hearing someone explain a plot point, or just a plot in general makes me more interested in how the hell any of that stuff happened.
Same here,,, my reason for being okay for spoilers is that, at least I don't know how it happened.... But my friends don't like getting spoiled so I avoid spoilers as much
About spoilers: It's kind of tough shit when you choose to binge a show that still currently airing, but the people on Twitter are getting out of control with spoilers. But places like Reddit are pretty good about managing spoilers when new episodes of say WandaVision come out, and the mods delete anything that violates the rules of keeping secrets until a short time later. It's not perfect, but it's something. I mean, I get why binging can be fun, I but felt that waiting a week to see plotlines be proven true or false is kind of exciting
@@neyuun7854 same!! But if quarantine wasn't a thing I'd probably be spoiled of the whole entire show + manga because I have shit classmates who watches anime too and shows me clips in the middle of class.

I can't say I completely agree with the "If you have to put a spoiler warning don't post it" because you still want people who like the show to discuss this topic with you but you have enough courtesy to inform the ones who haven't watched it that "Hey, you might not wanna see this!"
Yeah I don't see what's the issue with that. They already did their duty by labelling spoilers. Telling other people to shut up just because its going to spoil things for you is kind of ridiculous.
The problem is the platform itself, saying something is a spoiler while posting it doesn't avoid what's being done in such an open, public space. For instance; ( [Spoiler] Such and such dies ) Where it's not hidden and is out in the open the moment it's presented to you. Labeling it as a spoiler practically has the opposite affect even as it draws more attention to it usually. Twitter just needs to implement the same kind of feature other discussion platforms have for [spoilers], it already has it for Explicit content after all.
and you can even blacklist tweets with the word spoiler in it so you don't see the tweets at all. Obviously some stuff will seep in from time to time but it seems pretty entitled to go on the platform which is built for people talking about relevant topics, to avoid talking about relevant topics. You should at least feel a little bit happier that people have the courtesy to put a spoiler warning
@@kb-ww1uw exactly, I couldn’t think of a word to describe that mentality but entitled does it perfectly. “I haven’t watched this episode, so you all can’t talk about it until I do”. Where’s the cut-off point? If Garnt for whatever reason wants to start watching AOT season 4 in 2022, nobody on Twitter can talk about it for another year?
@@kb-ww1uw I didn't know you could blacklist tweets like that, don't know how effective that'd actual be though. And I would agreed that it'd be an entitled stance for most people who's job doesn't revolve around interacting with their fanbases. A lot of comments I've seen on the video seem to think the guys can just 'not go on twitter', as if that's an easy solution for their problem here. It'd be nice though just to see basic manners with this stuff apply to twitter as it does with everywhere else though (disregarding those who at least try to), or really just give users the ability to censor content they post like every other discussion platform. What kind of grace period on when people should just not care about spoiling something or not can be whole separate topic of debate on it's own, I'd personally agree with Connor's take on that though.
Personal take: I don't really mind spoilers because they don't bother me too much. However, I won't go around discussing potentially spoiler content unless the platform clearly allows it (forums, discord, friend group chats) because I know that other people don't like spoilers and they are allowed to not like spoilers. I understand that spoilers are pretty inconsequential, but at the same time, it just ain't nice to potentially ruin someone else's experience. Note: when I mention 'spoilers' in this comment I really just mean the people on twitter clearly trying to get a kick out of people's reactions to their spoiling. Intention matters.
i dont get this spoiler thing. if i want to get in to a series, game, whatever, i NEED spoilers, because it gives me something to look forward to. seriously, the more i get spoiled the more things i find that may interest me. to the point where i cant stop myself and have to consume the entire thing. its not about the end result, its about the way and all the little details towards the end result. the journey one could call it.

I agree with Connor on the Code Geass discussion. When a show becomes popular enough to the point where it becomes pop culture it's fair game. *Everyone know at the end of Harry Potter, Harry turned into a magical unicorn and snapped Voldermort in half*
When reading a new manga I basically bar myself from any discussions around it because spoilers are sooo prevalent. Even being told when something big happens on Chapter xx already spoils it for me.
It’s even worse when you are watching a series that’s based off of original source material and it ends on a cliffhanger and then makes you wait for season 2. You always get them arseholes who decide they will spoil what happens next or what a character is

The reason why I never do spoilers is because you never know when a youngster that was too young for something comes along and you mentioning a show might be the first time they hear of it's existence. I was a pretty tiny kid when some family members saw that I watched star wars and they assumed I had seen it before and did that famous line, and while I didn't get it until I saw it I still felt robbed of an experience. As for thrill seeking I know someone that has a super high threshold for stress so he loves adrenaline kicks to feel dopamine and gets super depressed if he can't do thrill activities for like 2+ weeks. He has broken insane amount of bones but he is the happiest on the verge of crashing something.
The worst spoilers are the manga/light novel readers that think they're making some kind of cheeky, smart take by going "You like that new character a lot huh? :) Wait until the next arc haha" You're not being clever. You're just dangling a loincloth above your asshollery.
I've gotten to the point that when I glance over a comment that *feels* like its was a spoiler (you can tell by how its phrased) I switch to a different video that had nothing related to the previous video and as long as I don't dwell on it for a few days I completely forget it and actually get surprised when I get to that point in the show. Its something I had to learn at my old job when I delt with crucial financial information and crap I rather not think on when I got home
The easiest possible solution is just putting a spoiler warning if you gonna talk about a spoiler, its 2 words before a post or at the start of the topic in a video. People can't just *not* talk about something. Its so easy to circumvent this issue.
My mom always brings up things me and my brother did when we were young. One of which is still hillarious to me to this day. The difference between Avengers over Attack on Titan in my opinion is that you have to physically go to a movie theatre and pay for a ticket to go see it. Where lets be hoenst if you're this far into AoT at this point people would honestly expect you to be watching it as it comes out. I mean that's how most on going popular series are. It was this way with Game of Thornes and Mandalorian and Wandavision.
Not everyone can watch it the very moment it releases. I usually watch it a few hours after. People without CR premium have to wait a week (if you watch it illegally, shame on you). I think after that, it's open season. I don't think shows should be spoiler free forever, because people want to talk about stuff they're hyped about. Alternatively, a point I made to somebody else: People who don't want spoilers should just avoid locations where they can get them. Maybe I'm naïve, since I don't have social media outside of Facebook, and I only use Twitter to follow Monster Hunter. Perhaps it's harder to avoid conversations if you're more active. Regardless, a little online etiquette goes a long way. a "Spoiler" tag with several blank lines to avoid periphery reading is just a polite thing to do.
@@Hydraclone you can also be a few hours outside Twitter and whatnot til you watch it right? Joey and Garnt expecting people to shut up til what, the season ends so they can binge? @@biazacha it is entitled AND exceedingly unrealistic. There's not even a guarantee that they'll binge it as sson as thr last episode airs. They might just wait a few more days or weeks before finally starting. If they are so concerned about being spoiled on social media, then they should just abstain from it until they've caught up. I also think it's stupid that Joey and Garnt expect people to only discuss shows withing dedicated fan groups and friend groups. Some people don't want to join fan groups. Some people don't want to have to navigate through MALs shitty site or doenload Discord and that's fine. Tbh with spoilers, I literally just forget what I've been spoiled and still get surprised thankfully to my bad memory, so at least it's good for something...
On the whole "buffer for spoiler stuff" and Avengers, I feel like the directors stepped in since for Infinity War the memes and spoilers were out there immediately. While I didn't get directly spoiled, I did get more than a few "I don't feel so good..." memes the day after the movie aired. I went to watch it like 2 weeks later, but the entire scene where that line is uttered just lost a lot of the emotional impact it had on me due to that meme and I'm 100% sure it would've happened again for Endgame if the directors didn't step in. So, as much as it sucks to say, don't expect any buffer on spoilers unless the directors tell people to not spoil shit.
I remember someone shouting the ending of Endgame in the chat of an unrelated video premiere. That was the only time I remember where I easily straightup didn't believe a spoiler I read online. It sounded like they memeing, like "Joe Swanson walks in Endgame"
people will spoil anyways, idc at this point i just don't go on twitter after anew ep or movie airs. I don't feel like using twitter without being spoiled is a right or smth
Yeah, that's not working either. You tell people not to spoil, they'll redo what people did on Endgame and Game of Thrones and go into full 4chan mode and troll on every comment section possible. What saved Endgame was people memeing fake spoilers, like, "I loved the scene of Thanos eating pasta for 20 min." or "They went too far having Tony Stark defeat Thanos by saying the N-word.". Still, if something is spoilable, I don't think it's any good. I knew everyting that happened in Infinity War and still enjoyed it, and I read the Game of Thrones books and still loved a lot of scenes (rewatched them, even). And I'm up to date with the Shingeki no Kyojin manga, and I still got chills when Armin transformed and the Corps stormed Galliard. So I really don't get why people get themselves worked up over it all.

I hate podcasts, there are like maybe 5 that I can listen to. Trash Taste is in my top 3. All three hosts have such good and unique takes and opinions that the 2+ hours just flies by like you're hanging out with your friends and shooting the shit. It's fantastic.
"There's a difference between 'my brother got stranded in Death Valley' vs 'my brother got stuck in the Nutty Putty'" Are you saying... you want others to have a "proper death"?
The story about John Jones getting stuck headfirst in Nutty Putty for an entire day is still so hard to listen to. If you have a chance, Horror Stories has a great video on it.
ahh i’ve been behind on episodes, but I’m so happy to catch up and see that my fave boys are starting off by talking about my fave hobby!! Caving has been a huge part of my life for the past 4 years and it’s not as scary as it seems! Cave deaths are very rare, unless you’re stupid or are very unfortunate (like the guy from Nutty Putty). To answer their question about cave rescue, there actually is NCRC training in America (not sure about other countries). But it doesn’t even have to be your full time job! Though a lot of fire fighters will incorporate it as part of their training.
I'm not sure if I understood Garnt's take about AOT spoilers, I think that posting manga spoilers is a dick move but it's completely unreasonable to say that people shouldn't talk about the newest episode of AOT or any TV series. This season of AOT is the most anticipated show in years and it's genuinely amazing, of course people are gonna want to talk about the episodes online, especially if they have no one in real life to talk about it with.
"bUt JoEy DoEsN't LiKe It So ThErEfOrE iT's BaD!!!!1!1!" Joey and Garnt sounded like entitled babies for not adapting to the way that literally 90% of people are watching the show. They are the ones who purposefully decided not to watch it. It's on them.
garnt needs to understand the world does not revolve around him. discussing it in a non spoiler way is nothing better than not discussing it at all with how bland it is. people are using social media and hes going directly into it, and blaming the internet for being the internet
Maybe the middle ground is this: If you don't want to get spoiled, limit your social media intake or watching habits. But, for people who want to talk publicly, have a "show/hide spoiler" feature, and make it etiquette to use that as much as possible.
Balconies are the worst... strap me into roller coaster shoot me up to the moon and I'll enjoy it until I run out of oxygen. Then put me on a high balcony and I'll grasp the railing for dear life while simultaneously attempting to melt myself into the little bit of land I can find
What Joey said about demon Slayer is exactly why I can't find myself to be as hyped for the series as everybody else was. Every time I think about that show it just reminds me of seeing a picture or a video of that one scene from episode 19 and how much it actually took away from my whole experience because I was expecting it to happen instead of just seeing it happen randomly and that's why that show is only at 7 out of 10 for me
I just uninstall twitter and facebook when I don't want spoilers, because even if the producers of the show tells people to not spoil something, that's not going to stop the ones who want to.
I'm a flight attendant and I literally die laughing every single time I see someone run out of the bathroom before the flush sound LMAOO it's the sigh of relief like they just got away from a serial killer
I’ve been flying for 21 years and it was only a few years ago that I forced myself to stay in the lavatory whilst I flushed and eventually I got over it.
The anime spoiling thing is a Twitter exclusive. I've been a year late to Demon Slayer and I'm on almost every social media except Twitter and I was never spoiled
Same, i waited a year to watch Demon slayer and i never got spoiled, got the full fresh on experience, up to that legendary episode 19 animation (I liked another 2 episodes prior to that), even though im on facebook anime groups and youtube recommendation that sometimes shows animes for me. I think i'm one of the lucky peeps.
When Connor said "Have you heard of this in cave in Utah?" my body instantly tensed up. I've heard about the Nutty Putty cave case too many times that I can recognize the cave just from only a single sentence.
Yeah some people are really sensitive about it, but I can still understand it to some extent. What bothers me is when people are saying "hey don't talk about ___ even though it's been a week after release".
Lol they have the Kaneki flipping hair back on the thumbnail of one of the trash taste episodes, and joey and garnt complain about visual manga spoilers. Hypocrites 😂
My sister is a geologist and I cannot understand why she was so addicted to watching these Cave diving videos or other extreme stuff on youtube. But when I watched Internet Historian's Man in Cave, I kinda get it now.
when people put "spoiler" in their tweet it allows people to mute the word "spoiler" so tweets that have the word "spoiler" does not show up on your timeline at all. A lot of people are very ...rude when it comes to tagging spoilers though. because they "can't be bothered" and its "your fault for not being up to date"
If you get mad at spoilers it your own fault lol because it pathetic to be upset about knowledge u willing choose not to seek but you gonna happen to you sooner or later knowingly
