The compression socks are to help prevent blood clots in the legs. I've had many surgeries and they are extremely important because you aren't moving around a lot. they have them for $20 at any drug store and Walmart. please be safe guys!
Dude, I'm almost 3 days post op. You are so right. The other videos did not prepare me for this. I'm sure I'll be glad when it's over. But, this is hell. We need more videos like this. I'll make one today, too.
I think the pain level and discomfort is a person to person issue. I had barely any pain after my surgery and was able to do a lot for myself without assistance. It sucks that your first week was really painful. I think the worst part for me that first week was sleeping, cause im a side/ stomach sleeper and so sleeping on my back was a pain in the butt. Other than that my first week wasn't that bad. The socks thing is new to me.
i know you've already finished with your surgery process, but i wanted to go ahead and give the other guys watching this some advice. I'm currently 1 day post op with Garramone and am staying at New Beginnings Retreat for my recovery. It was the best decision I've ever made. Leland and Bonnie own a HUGE home with everything you need to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Every room has a recliner (much easier to sleep in), they drive you to all of your appointments.....
Def appreciate the reality &transparency the true cons of top surgery i do not hear not to much info like this in some guys too surgery videos, thank you.
....they buy all of the supplies you need in bulk so you save a TON of money ($20 for my socks and $30 for the scargaurd instead of $70 at the office). They are pros at the whole process, and Leland has over 25 years of nursing experience to answer all of your questions and keep an eye on your recovery. You stay with guys going through the exact same thing: it feels just like a family. I STRONGLY suggest that anybody who plans on seeing Garramone looks into staying at the retreat. :)
I had my surgery the day before you on the 18th . Im worried for you that you are in so much discomfort. I had mine with another surgeon who herself is transgender. I am in minor discomfort but other than that all I'm doing is napping and being bored. I would really call dr G and let him know how much pain you are in I don't think it should be so bad especially because you are so fit and healthy. If anything the ace bandage was such a relief for me from the many years of binding with underworl
Also, Leland is able to loosen your bandage the day after surgery (DON'T do this on your own, he's a licensed professional who knows what he's doing), and that alone made my stay here worth it. I couldn't imagine spending this week anywhere else.
how loose exactly can they be while still doing the job? i've honestly never stayed at new beginnings... i was already planning on going to dr. guerrimone but for some reason i've never heard of this "retreat" o_o
I'm from Belfast, Ireland so I'm part of the UK. I had surgery for a bowel obstruction in october and they gave me two pairs of compression socks at no cost
I am a woman, so I went through the opposite procedure to yours ( I had my breasts augmented), but I feel exactly the same way: first week was just agony and pain. But, now I'm about 2 months post, and it totally worth it! I'm so happy to be able to actually change clothes in front of people without being ashamed, and go swimming! I'm sure you'll love your results too in no time. Hope the best!
congrats on your surgery Aydian. be prepared to bit in a bit more discomfort in your second week as the feeling returns as noone mentions that parrt either, Im glad you have mentioned the discomfort with the binder as noone mentioned that before. I had to wear the binder 24 hours a day for 3 weeks and its torture, especially finding it hard to breathe and move... all the best with your recovery mate =)
I did my hysto first, and that sugery really hurt. It was worth it but after going through that, my chest surgery was nothing. Always plan extra cash for the possibility of going over budget.
Dude, thank you so much for your honesty, when I hear young transguy accuse older transguys of bitching and moaning over their surgeries and how it’s not going to be like that and that they will endure the process alone is a very unrealistic view... only hope more are realistic about the challenges
Ikant Standit I’m 15 and I got top surgery yesterday, and I have to admit it’s worse than I thought it would be. The drains are uncomfortable and painful, my chest is in pain even though I take strong pain meds and it’s hard for me to even go to the bathroom (because of all the clothes and stuff). I can’t stand up for more than a few minutes because it makes me feel dizzy, and I’m bloated af. I know it will get better but I should have known that it would be this painful.
@@ashton8289 hi i know this comment is pretty old and you may not even see this but if you remember, roughly how long was the healing process and for how long did it hurt/was uncomfortable?
Thank you for discussing this. I wish I had seen this before. In some ways I didn’t have as many problems, but yes, they give you the impression that it’s a 1-day thing, but I should have stayed in the hospital at least one night. I didn’t have anyone to help much the first four days until after 5 pm, and that person was exhausted from work. Luckily, I have good friends who helped get me back to the doc an hour away for clots in my tubing and who checked on me. There was nothing about any compression socks, so I didnt have any. I could have probably used them. Soo yeah, thank you for this. Others will really appreciate it! Thomas
I've seen a lot of videos where guys have been binded really tight and other where they aren't so much. Dr. Garramone didn't bind my chest very tight at all which I'm grateful about but I went through mansculpture so that was the worst. But hope you're healing well.
woah man. sounds like you are having a rough experience. I agree with some of the previous posts, idk why you had to pay for the socks, gauze, tape, ect...I would contact your doctor if you are having so much discomfort thats not normal. Are you able to adjust your ace bandage? I wore mine for the first two weeks but didn't have any pain like your are describing and I have a really bad back, maybe call and ask if it is ok to loosen it a bit? I hope things get better!! keep taking the medicine i
Hey Bro, I had my surgery one month prior to you, on June 19th. I read a few comments from others about how much pain you are in. I was pretty much able to move around and was only slightly sore in the drain areas after surgery. I am wondering if maybe you are bandaged a little too tight, and that could be why you have had so much pain. I agree with ItsMeMrJames, you might want to call Dr. G and just let him know how much pain you are in. Take care bro!
I'm a Ftm I was wondering how much was your top surgery itself, I'm been searching where to do my top. So far Dr. G is the one I've seen good so far. Thanks I'd appreciate the response.
Aiden, thanks so much for making this video. I'm going down in the beginning of dec. Am staying at New Beginnings so am excited about that. But what you mentioned on this video is well said and I feel more prepared now. You're right, this needs to be discussed more by those who get top sx. In fact, thanks to your footprints on this matter I will try to do the same when I go down. By the way, I've seen your newest video and your chest looks great. You look so damn happy too
every surgeon is different. I only had to wear compression socks the first day after surgery and I didn't have to buy them - the surgery center provided them. Are you asking for the generic vicodin? Some pharmacies won't give you the generic unless you ask for it. Very good points though, there are almost always unexpected expenses for something! The grumpiness too! 2 days post-op my mom said "you must be feeling better" and went for a walk cos I was so pissy at her. LOL
Thanks for the video. You are so right. So many guys just put all the positives out there. We do need more preparation for the negative. Not to dissuade us but to prepare us. I love your comment about a week of hell and a lifetime of happiness! Congrats! ;)
i was never told socks but i did my surgery local too vancouver bc canada with dr.bowman all they said was get up and walk as soon as possible i am not allowed to shower until drains are out so ur lucky u snuck in with ur drains on i was told sponge bath i also paid $119 for a vest that is really comfy that works
you are so cute great video i am transgender male to female no surgery yet u look great and i hope your surgery went well and you are not in pain still :) Melissa
Hmmmmm...seems like you have it a lot tougher than I did bro. I was able to bath by myself (by just sitting in the tub with a little water), I was able to pull my own pants and underwear up, lol. I could brush my teeth. Didnt need my vicodin except for maybe once. Hope these next two days are a little easier for you! I can't wait to see your results! Take care bro! oh--and I went to Garramone and I didn't need to buy $40 socks?? WTH
I needed this thanx! looking all over for a suger free video :D. I get my top surgery 2mrw not with Dr. G but so far everyone says it will be fine. haha I needed someone to tell me it might suck! i can tolerate pain but then again so can you so i have no idea.
Garramone must really bound you guys up. lol. Everyone who has gone to him talks about how tight the bandages are. I went to Medalie, and instead of ace bandages, he has you wear a zip up binder which isnt too tight at all. It's about as tight as a normal binder we wore daily. Luckily i didnt have to go through the tightness of those bandages! Still sucked, but didn't seem as bad.
i had FFS tree weeks ago-it is harder to get some procedures at once but i had no pain andso because i thougt only about the resuklt and my new preety faca and now i am happy, it is still swollen but all people outside accept me as a woman....
Compression socks are completely unnecessary. I've never heard of anyone using these post-surgery. I'm also shocked that your surgeon used ace bandages for binding, instead of a post-surgical binder. I got to take mine on and off for all of my recovery. I find it strange that you're having such a hard time, it makes me question the surgical method. I had come off my my pain meds 48 hours after surgery and switched onto ibuprofen. Hopefully things are smooth for you from here on out.
How do you feel now? and how did you like Dr. Raphael? I have decided that I want to go with him-- I still have to call and figure out when and price. May I ask how much it cost you-- and such. If you don't feel like answering here, just message me. arikhk. Thanks.
Have to be extremely careful. Usually it is best to not be alone just so you do not rip/stretch your incisions. Plus, reaching for stuff is hard usually.
He should have given you the compression socks, the gauze, the antibiotic ointment for your nipples once you go home, the tape. If you don't have insurance your Vicodin will be 20 bucks. 20 per meal? How in the world are you eating so much food post op? He must have really bound you up tight, that's the key source of all of your problems. I think you just had a shitty first week mate. It's not that people sugar coat it, you just had a different experience. I was self sufficient 4 hours PO.
