They are really great pets once you know how to take care of them :P Sorta pricey pets, *(Well I think, anyway)* but they're one of the best rodents to have. Guinea pigs are another good rodent, I've had both but not at the same time .3.

The Clever One !(Sorry for a long time without a reply) It depends on the pet store, I got mine for about 75 dollars. (I don't remember too much) It's not too bad, they're good pets to have, they do need to be taken care of, and if you treat them right, they'll get along with you well.

Children may play with the chincilla when they are responsible and not too young. Children can also play with other small animals as long as they know they arent harming it

@@Hartzforvivi Chinchillas, rodents especially though are extremely fragile and small children often like to squeeze things. They can kill the animals just from hugging them so they need to be of an age where they are aware of their ability to harm something and not have the desire to harm said creature (cause some kids get a kick out of hurting animals unfortunately). Dogs and other more sturdy animals are suitable for small kids but rodents not so much even though they are advertised as good pets for little kids, that is simply not true especially because rodents can die from kids being loud/screaming. They can die of heart attacks or stress related conditions from being in environments with small children who scream/cry when excited. Rodents have far more sensitive hearing than humans do so imagine, a screaming kid would be like standing next to a speaker with the volume all the way up and having no ear protection. Not cool.

Not all chinchillas are the same and maybe you should be paying more attention to their individual personality and what they show they like and don't like instead of being annoying af. Not to mention chinchillas have incredible hearing so that kid's scream is a lot louder to the Chinchilla than to a normal human.

I'm sorry You had to go through that.. my cousin's guinea piggie died at the claws of her cat.. she said it was very graphic too.. but that was a long time ago.. I also had a pretty bad expierience with my girl chinchilla 6 months ago.. she was preggers and we were really looking forward to it, but she started giving birth when we were away for an hour or so, when we came back, turns out the baby had died, and the chinnie couldn't push it out on her own.. so i had to get the dead baby out of her, but he was stuck by his head and paws.. pretty traumatizing too..

My neighbor's dog got out, my dad decided to take care of her, she got a hold of my piggy Nibble, and let him down like 1 second later. It was only the dog's fault, my dad tried to stop her. Nibble ran to the bathroom, flipped over, and died of shock/heart attack.. It happened earlier this year, like 4 months ago. It happened when I was at school. :I I lost one of my best friends on 2/3. Sorry for your losses. They're doing much better now, I'll tell you.

While I would agree with you when talking about other pet rodents, chinchillas are generally surprisingly resilient when it comes to loud noise. My current chinchilla can get really good sleep while I am listening to loud screamy metal in the same room. And my current chinchilla also loves being chased around, that’s why she had a lot of fun with my little brother (while being supervised, of course). Plus the chinchilla in the video does not exhibit any signs of being stressed or scared, otherwise it would make loud vocalisations, try to attack the toddler and spray. I am pretty experienced with chinchillas and other rodents and I can safely say that I did not observe any body language that would indicate stress. It was clearly having a stroll through the house, rather than trying to escape in panic. I would say that different chinchillas have different personalities - some are more afraid of loud noise while others are not. It is very important to consider your pet’s individuality before doing anything out of the norm.

They also burrow and live in crevices where the sound would be muffled... Also, legal domestic chinchillas aren't raised on mountains with storms. Both would still have sensitive hearing regardless.

M.J. J. I accidentally killed my chinchilla. I'm only 13. I only had for her around a month I loved her so much. I handled her at least 3 times a day. She followed me around. She would come see me in bed. She trusted me with her life and I ended it... 😭😭😭😭 she fell asleep on my lap lots. She was such a nice pet. If you know anything about chinnies she was a violet wrap. How she died ? I was lifting my reclining sofa off her she was underneath, she did this lots. I accidentally put it down on her neck she tried to get out frantically I went into panic mode. Lifted it off her after a couple of seconds. She made a quick run then collapsed and died. The corpse had blood around her nose. I'm not sure what happened but I've really been crying my eyes out for the past 2 days. I seriously think this is a big nightmare and I'll wake up but no... she's really dead. I keep blaming myself for her Incredibly short life... Please someone just say something nice to me I'm so devastated. Just say something to remove the guilt from my chest pleaseeeee or if you could tell me what she died of. 😭😭😭😭😭😭

I am so, so very sorry that your chinnie died. It must have been horrible for you. What kinds of things have you done to memorialize her? Do you have some pictures of her?Maybe getting some of the best pictures enlarged and put into a frame, hung where you can see it all the time?. Write a poem, sketch some pictures - it doesn't have to be grand or even perfect about your days together. Please don't blame yourself for her accident. It is not your fault, especially since she liked to go in there. It sounds like it all happened very fast, so don't torture yourself thinking of what her end was like. She probably didn't have very much pain since her adrenalin was going. I'm sure if she could talk she would tell you that she didn't think you killed her. From your description she might have had a head injury but it's hard to say, and I don't think knowing the specific details would help you feel any better. You have a good heart, and what happened could not have been your fault, because you wouldn't have put her in there on purpose to hurt her, right?? They love to explore and sometimes their curiosity gets them into trouble. It was just a lot of unrelated things that happened at the wrong instant. I want to specifically say that she probably didn't feel much pain, she was so worked up about getting unstuck and getting away. It can be very hard to see our pets die, and it's also hard to, for example, come home and find them dead. You got to her as quickly as you could and she knew you were there with her when she passed away. These little guys are so precious to us, so just try to remember only the good times. Maybe start a journal of memories, describing her first day(s) with you, or how you felt when you brought her home for the first time, what you went thru to get ready for her, like did you save up money for a while, how did you collect the cage, , wheel, toys, etc. What were her favorite treats and did she have any special noises, were you training her for lil tricks, etc. things that could be written out for you to read later and remember her. Any time you find yourself feeling like it was your fault, you killed her/you're a bad person, try to re-phrase it, say 'it was an accident', she died after a quick injury, she didn't suffer', and things like that. some times keeping a rubber band on your wrist and lightly, lightly snapping it to remind yourself to stop the negative thoughts and just remember your good times and the love you had for her. Accidents do happen, and very quickly. Again, please don't blame yourself, and take good care of yourself, too! Get some fresh air, eat healthfully, spend time with people who understand how special she was to you.Do you have other pets in your home, or do you think you might want to get another chinchilla? I was surprised at how much STUFF I needed before our guy came to our house, so it would be nice to put another chinnie in there to use it (after a good cleaning). They are $$, but sometimes vets and animal shelters have animals that the owners "relinquished" becoz' they found them too hard to care for. So, to summarize, wipe your tears, tell yourself it was not your fault and remember the good times you two had. It DOES hurt a lot when they leave us, but trust me, the pain will go away, not every single grain of it, but you will feel better. The reason it hurts so much is proof that you loved her fully. Someone who has that much love to share with an animal should have one in his/her life. How did you decide on a chinchilla for a pet?

I agree that it was an accident, but don't sugarcoat the situation and tell the person it wasn't their fault, it was. We have to be extremely careful around pets because of things like this and it's a shame that it happened. The animal probably did feel pain in it's death but we can't be sure, so don't tell the owner that it was painless; no traumatic death is painless. We can't coddle humans in the pet world because mistakes are our fault and more often than not result in serious injuries or death. Instead of telling them how it wasn't their fault and they shouldn't blame themself, you should explain that they should learn from the situation or don't get any more pets. Hopefully they will be more careful next time or won't get another pet at all. 13 year olds are capable of understanding responsibility and death and if they can't do that yet then the parent's are at fault too. You also shouldn't spread the idea that everyone who has compassion should have a pet in their life. Owing pets isn't just about you and your feelings, but the wellbeing of another living animal as well. Just because you love animals doesn't mean that you should own them. Think before you say something.

Chins have sensitive hearings and when you use them to exhaust your child and let your toddler scream around your house, then that's not right. Also, it's not good to let them eat a lot of nuts, their fatty and not good, if you give them too much. If you wanna have a pet, do what is the best for it.
