Respect is very big here. For the locals,enviorment and the animals. Just be humble,show respect to locals and dont try so hard to talk like us😂. Just be your self.

Great video, but some errors in the pictures that you showed. For the Hawaiian Mongoose you had shown (@ 7:22 - 7:35) was actually that of a Meerkat that is also a small mongoose found in southern Africa. The Hawaiian Mongoose is a solid orange/brown with no stripes and has orange eyes. The Meerkat's in the videos that you see all look adorable and friendly, whereas the Hawaiian Mongoose is a fierce very unfriendly sort. The other pictorial error was the Coqui Frog that was shown @ 8:55. I believe the picture you used looked closer to a Leopard Frog. Coqui Frogs are very small and look closer to a typical Tree Frog.

So I think the Big Island is actually the best island. Because it’s so big and yet small town. When staying on the west side north of Kona the desert area I had no allergies! It was like a perfect paradise, dryer, still tropical, beaches, perfect temps. I hope in retirement spend at least 50% of the year there. Blessings

One side hot and dry, one side rainy. Punaluʻu beach is a must see! If you buy bread, store it in the fridge, or it will get moldy in one day.

Lived on the Big Island for 10 years. Had to move for better health care. Miss it so much!❤ But did hate the vog since I lived in South Kona.

Thank you for such an informative video. I have visited the Big Island 3 times and loved it. I loved the historic sights, walking across the lava fields and going on an ocean lava tour - up close and personal. I have stayed in Kona and Hilo and will never forget my visits. I am too old now and I was lucky to visit when I was somewhat younger. Aloha Nui and Mahalo, Maly.

Thanks a lot. I saw other videos of real estate brokers trying to concentrate only on the sales pitch for properties in the 5 to 10 million range. Even when pushed for specific responses, they expertly avoid the bad news and just give the sugar coated side. It is their livelihood. This is where your insights become so valuable.

Buen hecho, Maly! Mucha información importante. tenemos 3 acres por allí y estamos acercando movernos desde Costa Rica por allá! Estoy curioso de donde eres? Hemos conocido a muchos salvadoreños en nuestra región de la isla. Es solamente que nos hace sentir bien estar alrededor de la cultura hispana y por eso estamos gradecidos que hay aún en Hawaii! (Somos gringos, pero tenemos casi 20 años vivir afuera de los estados.) Bueno. Mahalo for the well thought out information!

Aloha! Facebook Marketplace has lots of rentals, Zillow and Furnished Finder. We have Uber on island as well 🌺 I wish you and easy transition to the island!

The video of mongoose is misleading.... those are meerkats which Hawaii does not have and are not allowed in the State of Hawaii. Also, we see more chickens and wild pigs in urban areas.

Mahalo for the information and feedback! I didn't have videos of mongoose handy and meerkats were added by accident, I realized about this after it was already published. I thank you for adding to the conversation. Chickens are everywhere, I will say pigs are found in areas were the property backs to vacant land and areas that have huge acreage.

I HAVE NOT SEEN " ALOHA SPIRIT " ONLY " UPTIGHT SPIRIT " ON THE ISLAND. THE FRIENDLYNESS ON THE ISLAND IS WORST THAN THE MAINLAND.

I suppose you came with the wrong attitude. I live in California, however whenever I come and visit family the people are always friendly, maybe because I live with the aloha I was brought up with. I local will check you if you are respectful. It’s never happened to me, however I’ve seen it happen.

Just don’t agree. I was welcomed and encouraged to be a part of. Maybe because I am older. I studied‘ ōlelo, hula kahiko, Hawaiian learning methods, protocol, traditional gardening methods, and learned to eat local. Still not good at it, but love having the opportunity to try. Aloha nui loa.

Property taxes on the big island ARE MORE THAN DOUBLE the other islands. Absolutely NOT worth it given that Kona is a dump full of homeless people.

Think about it this way from a locals perspective. Hawaii is already expensive so when we get a bunch of people move here and buy up the homes it drives the prices up and makes it even more hard for us to afford a home. On top of that we live on an island where land is limited. With that being said. Not all vacant land is made for development. There is cultural purpose to lands being and staying vacant

@@rkn144 This makes absolute sense. It is indeed a sad situation but, I’m failing to distinguish this from other states where higher income people move in and displace lower income people. Miami Fl comes to mind for example. As I see it, maybe giving certain areas of the islands reservation status ala Native Americans is a plausible option. Thanks!

If your gonna move to Big Island... Learn about the history of Hawaii and her culture. Respect goes a very long way here. Life here is laid back and everything runs on Hawaii time😂. Most of all learn the do's and dont's, follow the rules and please dont tresspass on any land that is marked KAPU... It means FORBIDDEN/ KEEP OUT. You get what you give out. As far as marine life goes look from a distance but remember ALL marine life is protected by law. Big Island is a very spiritual place. Either you will feel at home here or the island will send you packing back to mainland. Almost forgot... If your not a fan of giant cenepedes, fire ants, rats, mosquitos, slugs and spiders, then you probably wont like living here😂. Oh and lets not forget the flash floods... Its pretty common place and to be expected living on the Big Island.

Why discourage people from moving there? Instead, maybe encourage people to treat the islands and locals with respect, while advising that the locals have a bias against them due to the history of the relationship with Hawaii and mainland. It's like you're saying "don't move to the southern US as a black person they'll hate you there" rather than "hey while I may not advise it, if you do move to the south here's some things to look for".
