A great film maker in the class of his own, He wares a triple crown for Pyasa, and Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam. Beautiful movies of classic dimensions demonstrating his artistic genius. His premature death was a big blow to the lovers of good cinema and the family of Bollywood. Yes, deservedly his contribution and legacy is immortal.

Proud to say, he was born in Bangalore. His mother was a well known kannada writer. He belonged to gowd saraswata Brahmin community. Sadly his eldest son followed in his foot steps.

I cry when I learn about the plight of old actors when they were all my heroes and heroines. The old days were good, with people with much more simplicity and genuinity. Guru Dutt The Most Underated.....Genius ...Can't imagine what All Gems he would have given us if he lived more. Now if he could have come out of the negativity of hopelessness etc and kept his zeal , alive , of his mastery of Cinema....We would have had 2 Worlds in Indian Film Industry , one led by him and the other that which is prevailing, of which the least said the better.

None of the Indian channels ever tried to explore his work. UK's Channel 4 first made a comprehensive documentary in 1987 which was directed by the brilliant Nasrin Munni Kabir. The documentary has interviews of his mom, Raj Khosla, Waheeda Rehman, Johnny Walker, VK Moorthy etc. Must watch for every single fan.

You can write books on Guru dutt but in one sentence you can describe him which is that he was a true artist that's why he died at the hand of his love. Love have no boundary and feelings can't be killed. He was a genius and had so much talent which is beyond and sahib Bibi or ghulam is a proof. I had always felt warmth spirituality and mystery about him. His face is unique and it is so sad that he left the world so early. This world is crual when love becomes conditional after marriage and artist do not accept that. A true legend beautiful soulful pure actor leaving world do early. His movies can be watched again and again.

Tragic life of a great man.Infact he was the only Hero and rest are just actors in Indian cinema. He played his real life and feelings in form of films. We will never find an artist like him in future. It's sad that he left us so early.

It's easy 2 blame a woman. He pleaded wid her 2 cm 2 Bombay. 2 work in his movies. He started da affair. She didn't. Cnt u tel frm his movies, he was masochist & had symptoms og melancholy . He was depressed/short tempered frm a vry young age. C his younger sisterz interview. He was alcoholic & used 2 take overdose of sleeping pills b4 waheeda arrived in his life

@@rajasafdar1683I don't thinks he ''pleaded' with WR. She was doing guest appearances in South movies. He gave her a break in Hindi movies. Few of his bollywood friends even discouraged him from casting her because they didn't approve of her. He ignored them and gave her lead roles in Hindi cinema. Read Bimal Mitras book to know about him. These days you find Opinions about him mainly from his sister or WR. They can only give a one sided opinion. But if you read old books, you get more insight into his personality

V khawani ...I think I read his brother's blog and there was written that he had a habit of taking sleeping pills ....his last day he did shopping for his children as well as his brother and then they both went to the place he lived ..he drank that night and supposedly took an overdose of pills ...which resulted in his death ....also that day he spoke to mala Sinha over phone for a new project....may not be a suicide ...God knows ...

My all time favourite actor director producer n handsome Guru Dutt sahab....was there no one to help him come out of his sorrows...no other but his wife should have realised that the man is a treasure n should be taken care of...l don't think he betrayed his wife...he loved her so n also his children...he was such a talented brain which should have been looked after like a jewel....only a person having a warm heart, a wonderful person having intense sentiments n strong emotions like Guru Dutt sahab can make films like the ones he has made...love you Sir for the treasure u have left for us... thanks

It's not easy for a wife to accept rejection from a husband. I think Geeta Dutt refused to accept the 'affair' unlike many other wives in the film industry (esp in those days) who accept their husbands girl friends

@@fab9037 actually he did not betray her....many a times external pressures r such that they dont let one think rationally... people around should not interfere in a couples life...they should let the couple take responsibility of their own affairs...whether they quarrel or they dont.... actually my concern comes out of sheer sorrow for the loss his family has suffered...n for no good cause....sheer lack of communication, misunderstanding... Actually we have no right to comment on anyones personal life....l was born after his death...but l felt very sad to see such a talented, handsome, visionary, excellent human, a perfectionist being lost from us at a very early age...he was far ahead of time....thanks
