It’s because it’s true. IT and Es loop grants us that as one of many parts of us. I see violence as an art form, even though I don’t like hurting people. I can still admit that I enjoy the emotions and energy running through my body when I’m in the “flow” it’s one of the times I feel truly alive. When I’m physical and emotionally engaged in something.

This is one of the most accurate descriptions of us ISTPs and condenses a lot of the insights and discoveries I’ve made about myself over the last couple of months. There are a few other good descriptions out there, but not many get that intuitive side quite right. We can't just cope with intuitive or abstract concepts, the Ni actually plays a big role in our thinking process. And that „Mastery and Freedom“ section about our motivations is not something I’ve heard anywhere else but it's so true.

Thank you for elaborating more on what makes an ISTP. I've seen a lot of mbti skits and lately I realize the ISTP is more often than not portrayed the exact same way time and time again. And as an ISTP myself I have grown to find the lack in variation of the stereotypical ISTP to be disengaging. This video was fresh in that sense, in how it struck multiple facets of who I feel like. Good job 👊 Btw I should clarify I have seen multiple videos from several accounts that describe the ISTP well. This was just a personal observation based on what has been released lately on the more comedic realm of mbti channels.

He could be an ISTP then based on what you shared. I think ISTPs doesn't like resenting or regretting anything so they would rarely do something they don't want.m, rather than do it and resent the situation later. I'm a female ISTP, and I did bad in school in the sense that I don't participate in pretty much anything, would compete in Math but would still have a low grade because of lack of requirements. I got the "wasting your potential cause you're lazy" reputation just because I didn't do the things I "should" but don't want to because I'm not interested, and I don't see the point or need it at the time or just simply because I'm in a bad public school where very few that actually care about teafhing and are doing it effectively.
@JokerCrowe
@JokerCrowe 2 года назад
I'm an INFJ, but I really resonate with the point of mastery and solitude, though for me it's more like a jack of all trades situation. I recently moved to a new city and while living alone, I'm trying to fix as much as I can by myself. I Also don't like being reliant on other people to get something done and am trying to become a universal "handyman". Obviously ISTP and INFJ are different in other aspects, but I really think we can be quite similar in that aspect since we both have Ni and Ti, only flipped in the stack. And I really like ISTPs for this reason (even if they might not like me and my Fe ways. :P ) EDIT: to add the final bit and clear up typos.
@yananykyforova6754
@yananykyforova6754 2 года назад
Same for me. Yep, I can rely on safety net of people to get me through stuff that I don't like, but after all it seems silly, what prevents me from doing it on my own? And relying on faulty systems is low-key unbearable, there's always this exaggerated existential dread of some destructive randomness showing up at my door (by mistake?) and ruining my life forever 👀 I may speculate ISTPs have the same motivations to get mastery & independence swapped for people and systems By the way, it's interesting that you emphasized jack of all trades situation. I think P types have their efforts even more scattered and they're fine with it, while dominant Ni demands synergy and consistency in everything we do, "well I'm all over the place, but at least I fulfill this one archetype"

@@yananykyforova6754 Yeah, I definitely recognise the demand for synergy x) I've thought about doing a bunch of creative stuff like learning piano, drawing and learning a new language, but I can't seem to find a way to combine them. I've studied some neurology, so I know how the brain works when you're learning something, and unfortnately doing Any of those 3 means "re-writing" parts of how your brain works, BUT the knowledge doesn't carry over. I doubt they hate our Fe so much. I know they hate and admire ENFJ's Fe with all their being, but from what I observe my ISTP's friend. They seem to be comfortable with our Fe if we utilise Ti a lot with them. I think they appreciate that we slow teach/coax them the importance of developing their inferior function (Fe).
@JokerCrowe
@JokerCrowe 2 года назад
@@ZNIR777 Yeah, fair enough. I've heard Nathan talk about how they don't like playing the Fe game and that they sometimes don't trust people who seem to be "socially slippery". But it's true that we have and value Ti, and maybe our Fe (with Ni) can help us see that we shouldn't/don't need to use "Fe- tricks" on the ISTPs. (Ironically using Fe to NOT use Fe x).

The other 5 members of my family went skiing and snowboarding for a few days. My handicap kept me home but my husband set me up with food provisions. I rarely left the house. Many people are bothered by this although they claim to love people who seek knowledge and are intelligent UNTIL it's an ISTP doing the pursuing thereof. Being extremely driven by my own pursuits that involve thinking and understanding requires a lifetime. Why are ISTPs not extended the same courtesies that other types are afforded throughout the world? It's like enjoying solving the world's problem's alone is a crime. Based. I feel like a bit of the drive towards mastery also has to do with wanting people to admire me though. I think what you said about freedom makes sense with that too, because if I can be excellent at something then no one can question my ability and I can move without restriction/barrier. I used to be into philosophy more but I kind of gave up because I'm failing to see a point in it a lot of the time (unless typology is considered philosophy lmao, then I guess this is the exception). And while I definitely have an ability to learn on my own, and will learn on my own, I still seek teachers because (i) for physical learning (i.e. skateboarding), it's good to have someone to observe and have them point out your failures/improvable areas, and (ii) for mental learning (i.e. math), I can't read for shit so I just have to watch people do it until I understand, and (iii) for all learning, guided development from someone who knows best practice can be helpful in the long run and save time, and I tend to want mastery as quick as possible. Though having said that, I still prefer an approach where they "teach" me (demonstrate) and I go off and try to figure out how they did it. But sometimes hands on teaching is helpful too; for physical things that have a mental barrier, or for when you're just not getting it.

It's frustrating because a lot of your personality traits can't shine within certain circumstances... Such as depression. I didn't know how independent I am until I started taking care of myself and supporting myself financially. I had forgotten how adventurous, curious and tactile I am, because I never left home. I forgot how to be assertive and chill because of my constant anxiety. Then once I got my life in order, I was so puzzled when I tried out some tests again and suddenly couldn't get anything but ISTP no matter how hard I tried. A mechanic, wtf? Taking things apart? Getting my hands dirty? It sounded nothing like me... INTP sounded more like me, but I couldn't get that result anymore... Even INFP sounded more like me. It was a fun journey to self discovery.

Once again, your ISTP description has me momentarily questioning if I am one. I know this is weird, I know my ENFP self shares no cognitive preferences with them. But behaviorally I am all these things and I am motivated by these things to a T. Yet when I look at the purely cognitive aspects I do see that the flow of taking in information and deciding how to use it is ENFP. However, if I were to rank my next 4 functions of my strengths/what my brain prefers next, it would be Ti,Se,Ni,Fe. I have never related to having those subconscious functions in the supposed order an ENFP would have them. So I guess I have an ISTP subconscious. That’s all I can hypothesize.

ask yourself and others close to you for their opinion on what they think you struggle with mostly. Sometimes it can be hard for anyone to see themselves initially hence why many people are mistyped in the community. I mean every video type description done well can make anyone feel as if they relate because a lot of the highlights are shared however most ISTP's (unless developed in their later years have a SERIOUS Fe problem most throughout their lives that other types think they know but they truly don't fully understand what it is to deal with it. Just thought this could help. Look for your struggles moreso than your strengths
@heartpoint5289

@@RevRideReason they would definitely say I have an Si struggle more than an Fe struggle. And I would too. The Si struggle has caused actual problems. The Fe struggle is more like a secret inside me. @SamiShah2004
@SamiShah2004 2 года назад
Which is weird because ISTP's and INFP's have very much opposite attitudes and mental processes. INFP's being emotional, idealistic and imaginative and ISTP'S being logical, realistic and pragmatic. Not to say they are completely different but they have very different approaches to life. That being said, I oddly had the same problem. I think it's because both types can often times be too stuck in their own heads at times and that can cause confusion between the two types. An ISTP that daydreams a lot might mistake themselves for an INxP.

@@SamiShah2004 exactly, literally all their cognitive functions are opposed! Do you think it's possible to be ISTP but not a lone wolf? I'm pretty sociable, I like fun and talk, I'm not nerdy, but I do love to master my skills. The only ISTP thing which doesn't fit me is that "lone wolf" philosophy. Of course I need some alone time from time to time, I hike alone sometimes, but other than that not really.
@julianbailey2749
@julianbailey2749 2 года назад
ISTPs like company being with other people and working or socialising with them isn't a problem, but and this is something that I realised by the time I was in my late teens. If the group wanted to go off and do something that I didn't want to do then I had no issues in telling them that I would go do something else and meetup later. To them those moments of just going off on my own were unusual, to me it was just a personal freedom/choice thing. It wasn't something that I did all the time, but I never took a second thought about it when I went and did my own thing. ISTPs will tend to prefer a small group of friends over a large crowd though going to a big event with that small group is fine, big events hammer the senses and we dig those live it now moments. Now I'm older then I still like social and group events, but I also know that after those events I will need some alone time to just be myself and relax. You mentioned hiking alone and that is a strong ISxP trait the ability to enjoy the both complete solitude and the filling of the senses from the environment in which you are in.

It would help if you didn’t read into things we say: assume nothing; just ask. On the flip side of that don’t expect the ISTP to read into what you say. We really do take things at face value. Personally, these relationships are okay if they are not close; I can only take them in doses.🙂 (ISTP)
@audreyhowler
@audreyhowler 2 года назад
For ISTP, a majority of everyday life situations are emotionally neutral, i.e. we simply don't have an emotional agenda for most things. Something to keep in mind as far as compatibility if you're a feelings person. ISTP will forge relationships through sharing interests and activities, rather than sharing feelings.
