I think it is fine for kids. Any attempts to say that this movie is "too much" for kids is over-censoring and over-protecting, which can be just as harmful in different ways.
I agree. That’s one thing I really admire about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish where it walks the mature paths but doesn’t cross it, which also help justify the film’s PG rating.
@Merlin Boshoff I think Puss in boots the last wish is a good example of a kids movie: not very mature and not very childish. Im 14 years old irl and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED that movie.
Yeah, as long as they remain cryptic and symbolic. But children will see it like this: "Well, that's really stupid. Why would the character say/do that?" etc. At first we, as adults, might think: "The kid doesn't know. It's fine." But I'm not gonna lie, as adults we have developed some idiotic habits and because children see it from a more fresh perspective than one which has been loaded by repeated past experiences, they can see that these habits or treatments are indeed in fact stupid (in some cases, others are just because of misunderstandings). Of course, even a major company (handled by adults who are also shaped by repeated experiences) won't be able to figure out that many problems in the world (especially the psychological ones) are simple to solve. Anything that is relatable will be presented instead, such as the fear of death.
"there was a little bit of blood" Precisely! TV and movies have desensitized people to the site of on-screen blood. The laser guided use in this scene is to clearly communicate to audiences, of all ages the fear that Puss in Boots is feeling. It is not cartoonish nor comical, it is not playful nor silly, it's not Dory getting bonked on the nose, it is the polar opposite of the concept of laughing at death which Puss and Boots is so nonchalant about until he's down to one life. The hair standing on in, and the fearful eyes, by themselves, leave way too much room to be comical. Also, the panic attack that puss has is very effective. People don't stop dying in the world until kids are old enough to understand death. And they understand a lot more than some people seem to think. Also it's important that kids watch it all the way to the end, where it's revealed that death isn't so much the bad guy as he just is, so enjoy life and don't take stupid risks. And it's totally wrong to blame Jack Horner "for all of it". Puss in Boots is to blame for eight of his frivolous deaths. Also, Jack Horner's disregard for life, as well as his henchman's willingness to risk death are something that they have in common with Puss. The movie is clearly hammering it into the mines of children, and I think they recognize this more than the adults, just how terrible it is to have such disregard for life _ regardless of whether it be heroes or villains_.. Also Horner's selfish focus on getting what he wants, is definitely something kids can identify with. Too often it's the supposed Heroes in kids movies that are overly focused on getting what they want. It's great to see this behavior performed by a villain and shown to be a bad thing. All that said, Puss in Boots' blood scene does not belong in the same movie that has Perrito's nose bleed. It comes long after the first scene but, the movie could have done without it. It takes a little bit of the bite out of the first blood scene. But if this version of Puss in Boots is just too much, perhaps kids should be content with the original fairy tale. Where Puss in Boots' owner at first wants to eat Puss. Puss in Boots' is owner stands naked in a river while a king _and his daughter watch_ and listen to Puss in Boots convince them that is owner is a Grand Marquis. Puss in Boots is a total con artist and lies to hundreds if not more people, convincing him that his core peasant owner is nobility. And finally, Puss in Boots select a victim to take his identity, so that his owner can step into this person's life, owning their land and castle and servants and well and reputation. Oh and puss can't have the guy sticking around after this theft, so he murders him, _BY EATING HIM_.
I just looove movie anaylses, so here's mine🙃: No movie or tv series is going to suit everyone unfortunately, no matter how popular. Maybe some of the scenes were indeed graphic or had swearing in them, but it does depend on how mature each kid is at the time of watching. Jack Horner for example is horrible and has no morals, but the extremity of his actions can visually make it easier for kids to identify how they want to treat others and/or be treated. If kids are scared of him, then good, that should be natural instead of wanting to be like him (lol). All types of characters should be shown in movies even for kids, because that's part of growing up! On another note, if this is considered too mature for kids then I fear video games for children should be rated R... the graphic content is crazy these days compared to 10+ years ago😱
It wasn’t mine I’ve seen the first Shrek movie the second Shrek movie the third even force myself to watch forever after I saw the first Puss in boots movie I even just got myself to work the Netflix show some know this is not my first it was one of my favorite movies though
What even is this video? "Things you missed." Proceeds to just tell you the cliff notes of the plot and criticizes that it's not kid targeted enough for kids to enjoy it. Ah yes, everyone missed the giant Shrek reference at the end, thanks for reminding me I went blind and deaf in those last couple minutes. Hey, guess what, got some awesome news for you. Children are way more intelligent then you give them credit for, and have an amazing capacity to learn and understand complex concepts like mortality and the fear of death. This movie is a fun, well executed, way, at the end of the day showing kids to appreciate every day, appreciate what they have, and don't be afraid to talk about your feelings.
If you want to give parents a heads up about why you, personally, think this movie might not be appropriate for children, then title it as such. "Things parents should know before taking kids to see Puss in Boots" or whatever, tighten it up a bit. All the power to you, giving parents a window to make informed decisions about the content they want their children to watch. But don't title it like it's an interesting trivia video.
