Make an XDJ-XZ2 with all the bells and whistles of a professional set without cutting the corners. Serviceable faders, beat effects, move the mic selection at one end of the rotary selector and fader sections to the other - grouped appropriately. Also true 4 channel standalone capability. Pioneer has screwed around for years making incremental changes and removing features that we all want. Put a price tag on it, who cares. People will pay. I’ve owned the RX and RX2 and sold each unit after a year or so while they still had some intrinsic value. I still have my Techs and they work just as good as the day I bought them in the 2000’s. Can’t say I have that confidence in the new line of products Pioneer is releasing.
Just the difference in sound between the faders on the XZ and the 900 nxs is appreciable from this video, the 900 nxs sound silky smooth! Thanks for the help, I'm looking to upgrade from the original XDJ RX I got when it first came out all of those years ago, thinking I'll hold out for an XZ2, XDJ 1000 MK3s (wonder if they will make these ever) or just switching to Denon!
There is a Sampler if you connect the XDJ-XZ to Rekordbox in Link Export Mode. Click on Shift & Beat Jump together and Sampler Mode is Activated. Switch Auxilary to Off and the Auxilary Volume Knob is the Sampler Volume. The Pads are for triggering your samples.
One thing I dont like about it is the Trans Beat effect. When you trigger a half beat trans, it doesn't come out right like it is out of time. On the DDJ 1000 if you do the same effect, It cuts the music in half a beat perfectly. I've tried twiddling the time knob above the effect level but I still cant get it to come out a perfect half beat cut. Thats the only thing I have a gripe about.
@@jasperhay do you have the beat effects quantize button activated? The trans effect works much better with that on I find 👍 Ps thanks for the sampler tip, I was missing that feature so I'm gonna give it a try, cheers.
@@jasperhay no problem, I just tried ur sampler method in rekordbox performance mode and that works great too, good to have the sampler dj drops option back 👍
Having independent 3 band eq for the microphone and master output is one of the main things that makes xdj- xz great. For mobile or DJ on hire, the main output eq can help to equalize the tone of main sound system that dj finds at any venue, especially in places where there is sound system without a soundman.
Your note about recording at 6:05 still works on Windows at least. I am using the latest version Rekordbox. Cool video anyways! Very likely I will pick this one up, the only thing I feel kind off bummed about is that the display for the effects is merged with the main display. And I think the numer order of the channels is kinda weird, but at the same time understandable.
I’ve had mine for two years (bought new) and have been having issues with my faders and EQ knobs. First my channel 2 fader was tripping out and not knowing if it was up or down / quickly jumping back and forth between the two extremes despite being up all the way. Luckily I was able to get it serviced while still under warranty and haven’t had any further issues. But now I’m having a very similar problem with the low EQ knob on channel 1. If you ask me, there’s a lot more cut corners going on under the hood than any of us are privy to.
@@DJNicShogun or its just a quick built unit and thats that? Im also just concerned spending money on something like this and then having issue with it. Buying these all in one units versus buying the seperate units, i dont know.
@@CollosalTrollge from what I know Pioneer has a history of bad sound card issue. But Denon is cheap quality or cheap looking but it has the best sound card
@@DJNicShogun ive never heard of Pioneer having bad history with their sound cards. I’ve also never had an issue with any pioneer gear I’ve owned in the past. Maybe i got lucky
Hi im considering this vs a XDJ RX3 now which one should I get if its for mixing at small scale events and small rooms? Im attracted by the design of this unit tho. The jogwheel led in the middle and jogwheel ring lights sure do look amazing. Plus the fact it is almost a cdj3000
Thanks for the video. Quick question. If I’m using the unit in standalone, can I use it as an audio device? My idea is to send my Maschine output to channel three or four as I would on any other mixer? Thanks
If it's a standalone unit then yes but if you're thinking to use it like a USB sound card then no because I don't think it will work like that. But I have never tried and I don't own the machine any longer so maybe it would
Love mine just spot on for partys and i can just pop in my sd cards and im away. do youir mix live or do it at home and pretend to mix. i have my 1210's on the 3 and 4 channels. ifuck key lock i rarely use sync but i learned to mix on technics but for the money its the dogs bollocks
What about the fader sensitivity I have a RZX I went and played on my buddies XZ and I had no way to control the fader sensitivity . You have it on the 900 But not this
hai tq so much for show me up but im stil dont know how to switch channell 3 and 4 .....im using rekordbox plz reply me and so i hope youshow how to switch it tq
Standalone screen only shows the 1 & 2 channels as you can only use those in standalone feature, when you hook up a laptop (for rekordbox) you see all channels in rekordbox & when you hook up CDJ's, those show their channels
Quick question ......I have this unit and it’s great but I have noticed on my unit when I record my sets which are wav form......it’s sounds not a as clear as when. I listen to the tracks before mixed...such as when buying them on beatport.....can I plug in an audio interface to record my sets away from the pioneer usb record button.....can you help with some advice.....thanks
How’s the sound quality? Us older Djs are always concerned about that before all the other crap. I pretty much have everything you have on the side. So I would say as compared to those?
Just ordered a xz 😎 quick question when scrolling your tracks that are loaded on your USB ,does it tell you what key they are before you load them ? Or you only see the key once there loaded
But don’t you think that the xz sounds better than the srt and the 1000? I want to know what you think because I have the xz in my mind as my next controller.
I am thinking about buying this, right now I use 2 cdj 900 nexus and 2 cdj NX2S, have a Djm 850 mixer. But I never have used a controller, and alot of places, my friends are playing at,they use controllers, but I dont like serato or using laptops. But when I rec my mixes,I use audacity, but let me get this right, if I just stick a usb stick, in that rec usb slot,I can rec my mix, without using my laptop? Im really new with all this controller stuff, im not up with all this technology, like I bought the Denon 6000ms when they frist came out,and I only new how to use them,as if I was playing on my 1200s. And I heard you could do so much with them, but I sold them pretty quickly after getting them.
I wouldn't. The xz still simulates a club system better. Rx3 has touch screen fx and does not simulate a cdj 3000 experience. Hold out for xz2 in a year or so.
@@TheDJLab Man HOLY words of advice brother! I’m praying Pioneer will watch your review and make adjustments!! Including 4 channel avail with pen drive, cause we know it will get new screen like Rx3. I have 1000srt now as back up.. I am patiently waiting for XZ2 .. They did Rev7 and listened to people dreams, now it’s time for XZ2 to be done right! Not all will spend 12k on 3000 cdj setup.. This would really change the game.. as for many bar owners also that wanna save, by adding external mixer and u good 🤣🤷♂️🤦♂️
@@TheDJLab I agree 1000% never will replace but as far as visually when one streams live where 85% of general population doesn’t know about DJ equipment then one could get away with using XZ2 😁👏🤦♂️🤷♂️
@@TheDJLab thanks for replying , I love my xz hopefully the next version comes with bigger screen and the ability to use the 4 channels with out any extra equipment
But you need a laptop with DDJ1000, I own it, but doing raves and stuff I have to bring my laptop and risk getting it wet, or stolen, Im thinking buying this or XDJ-1000mk2's but still can't decide 😕😕😕
Hello, I just got the ddj flx10 but I’m wondering if I should return it for an xz. I like that you can record like you said and only need speakers not a laptop 💻 but it’s $900 more.
@@TheDJLabI wanted to use stems for vocals and instrumentals and I saw how to do it without the hotkeys that’s basically the only thing that is better for me with the flx10, but for recording and mixing and how you’ve got the extra pad next to it that’s how I want it. M main problem now is just having enough space it seems like it alone will take up all my desk space not even having room for my Mac mini to sit. I have a studio desk with a shelf but this thing as I’ve measured it will no give me any free space at all. Even the flx10 was giving me this size issue. My only option is a desk stand that might hold it up so I can place things near or around it. 😂
Im interesting if you can play from laptop (beatport stream or whatever platform) and see everything (choosing tracks from playlists on recordbox etc) on the screen on XDJ-XZ..? So if yes it would be nice, to just simply close the MacBook and use just screen from XZ. Someone know if its possible ? Thank you.
@@TheDJLab I’ve had the gold version of this unit for a few years and I’ve barely ever used it. Pioneer just dropped support for it. It should’ve at least been able to use the RMX-1000 app or DJay Pro AI
I started djing on a Gemini CDMP 7000 & played around with the DDJ800 for a bit, I just bought a denon prime 4 in white and wanted to get the RX3 instead but due to there crazy back order I settled for that. and have been seeing these xz models lately locally. I’ve been comparing between all the models out there in the market on brushing up my knowledge and familiarization w most controllers. This helps a lot as I go into the future. Thank you for sharing the pros|cons, similarities etc.
I also have the Prime 4, but between the two, I take the XZ. The XZ sounds better than the Prime 4 to my ears. The XZ also allows mixing between standalone and DJ software. The XZ's larger jogs makes scratching easier. The XZ seems to be snappier and faster than the Prime 4. The only thing I do not like about the XZ are the faders and crossfader. They feel very cheap.
Hey! I am between denon dj prime 4 or this one, would you recommend Denon? I saw a video where denon has more pros than this one but, I own a denon mc4000 and sometimes the fx get activsted randomly, does the same thibg happen to you? Thanks!
@@yonki-delos-inciensos not yet! That might be a button malfunction, but now that you ask I’ll keep an eye out for that in the future and if it does on me one day I’ll come Back & let you know. Im still learning it, Im no pro yet; everyone has there preferences but it all depends on you. You know what you like & what you need to perform at your best. there all gonna have there pros & cons. I’ve also seen many of those comparison videos on here(RU-vid). It does have a lot of competitive features tho. the built in screen on these newer controller models makes a huge difference in learning how to read your music in terms of visual sound waves & getting rid of laptops. In my opinion it is a huge step up for beginners, I’m not picky so I’m not gonna sit here and tell you every single flaw that bothers me. As long as it works and I can play my shit I’m happy. My best advice continue to weigh out your pros & cons and play w the controller at your near by local store or if you know anyone that has one. Overall I don’t regret my purchase thus far. Good luck!
I think the ddj rz is still the top boy . The jog wheels are silk smooth . I had a ddj 1000 and was like a kids toy . The only thing decent about this is its standalone . Rz is 4 decks and like I said the jogs are so much nicer to spin .
You got the point about keylock wrong at 8m30s. Keylock keeps the track in the key the producer intended regardless of what you do with the pitch control. Otherwise when you change the pitch of the track it can change the key. I'm happy with that as I'm used to it, coming originally from vinyl where that happens, but just pointing out that what you said is the opposite of the situation. You mean you're happy for the key to vary from what the producer intended, like I am.
@@djpaulhannon Ah I get you. Still, using that or not has no bearing on keeping the key as the producer intended, that's down to whether you use the "master tempo" or not. (Pioneer calls it "master tempo" which I've always found strange, some other brands like Denon call that function "key lock", which seems more logical as it locks the key to original).
@@djpaulhannon Yes that was kind of my point. He says he doesn't need need keylock as he prefers playing it as the producer intended, which isn't accurate, keylock has no bearing on that. "Master tempo" is what does that, but personally I prefer not to.
You mean. I don't know "anything" ? Apparently, I know that. What exactly do you know. Where are your tutorial videos. How much gear do you own to compare? If you are going to critique you can at least elaborate.
