There are many myths and legends being spread around the world of motorcycling aimed to put people off buying A Royal Enfield. Here I try to deal with the most common ones as accurately as possible without bias.

Stuart, I was lucky enough to have a guided tour of the Enfield factory in India three years ago before I bought my bullet, I was impressed with the engineering that goes into the Enfield brand and their attention to detail. I was surprised at the high precision engineered robots that machine the engine parts and weld the frame and the high level of finesse the workers have in finishing each bike. So, I now own an Enfield !!!

I’m glad India grasped the nettle and kept the brand going, fair play to them. I don’t think it’ll be long before a big player over here too. The Indians love their motorbikes, just watch the amount of reviews for all brands that are made in India. Not talk over review bye! 👍

I went into an RE dealer just to have look a couple of years ago.... 30 minutes later I'd signed on the dotted line and was the proud owner of a brand new Interceptor. Never regretted it for a second... It's a cracking little bike. But it happened again just a few weeks ago. I went into my RE dealer to talk about something and when I left the shop, I was the proud owner of a brand new RE Himalayan! Don't know how it happened? it just did. I'm going to have to get a bigger shed... Again, what a cracking bike the Himalayan is... And just a midges away from 100mpg. Can't argue with that...

How has your Himalayan been? I’m thinking of getting the scram and adding a big bore cylinder kit on it to help keep up with expressway traffic here in the states

@@AlmondAdgenda My Himalayan is excellent. Did 220 miles on it this last weekend. Just serviced it myself (really easy) and it is running as sweet as a nut. Done just over 4k miles on it now and I've never had a problem with it. Yes, it could do with 20% more power to make it really nice. I do a lot of 2 up riding and it is a little bit underpowered straight out of the box. A few more cc would probably make it an even better bike. Or a better camshaft. I believe Hitchcocks do both?

Great bikes the royal Enfield twins what else would you want for the price there isn't a bike made that can't breakdown for me comfortable reliable economy good easy maintenance even for me may not be fast enough for a lot of younger riders but I am not planning early departure fingers crossed I love em

People said the same thing about my Euro turist yet 25 years later it still runs damn fine and most of the Russian part still work it starts first kick half a cycle of the crankshaft the engine fires up on the electric starter I've got some rest here in there because I have to keep it outside in rainy Florida but at least we have more Sun than Merry Old England and it's funny for people who bad-mouth the brand how come if they are so bad they can't keep any in stock because people are buying them left right and Center that's got to tell you something there there is such a horrible snobbery people who throw money at a bike and can accept a good bargain oh well that's their loss

Whilst i,m old, 63, and love my Enfield with a passion wherever i ride i see young blokes riding, modifying, raving about their Enfields. Its heartening and encouraging to witness young people embracing the Enfield for the down to earth experience it gives them. I’m a young(relatively) bloke from Australia too. Initially my love for RE came from my home town of India but I grew up here and got one as soon as I started working and had the money to do so. Stu makes such lovely videos and it’s awesome to watch someone as keen on RE as we are isn’t it? Love the community

Another Aussie here and also the Oldest at 65...just got a 500 tribute black...number 730. I love this bike, I can fang it hard without pushing my blood pressure to the stratophere and its handling qualities were a huge surprise...it really does handle well. I expected the vibrations having owned a CB500T in the past and I don't find it annoying in the slightest. The other real big surprise was the comfortable ride...could have something to do with the sprung seat but whatever it is due to I really appreciate it. Build quality is impeccable the paintwork is high quality and the welds are perfect... they do use robots at the factory these days. This will be my last bike as any new motorcycle these days are not my cup of tea anymore...what's the point of a bike that can break our national speed limit in second gear to an old man. Cheers guys...ride safe.

I’m an Enfield enthusiast. I love my classic 500, I understand and love it’s foibles, it’s why I bought it, it’s a big single so it vibrates... it’s not meant for sitting at 120 all day down the motorway.... that’s ok most roads I ride at 90 or under, yet she’ll hold 110 happily for those lil spurts. The motor has changed in basic design in 50 yrs...I love a simple motor, means I can work on it. And I love the aftermarket parts for every part of my new “Old” girl. I own 2 Enfields now, my 500 classic and a 350 rumbler (thunderbird). I’m always smiling when I’m on them. I can appreciate other bikes, I own a SWM Gran Milano, but I chose Betty before the SWM 9/10 times

What the UK needs is to simplify the bike test and make the insurance cheaper for the youngsters. Doing a modern test when you are between 17 and 21 years old is horrendously complicated and expensive. Get young people back into the freedom and joy of motorcycling and then sales and understanding of having a bike will go through the roof. Royal Enfield has enabled a sound product which isn't a life risking sports bike. Open the restrictions on access and we can become a motorcycling commuting country too. Added bonus, get all those cars off the road!

True. I think the Government are looking at a new part of the licensing laws however, I believe this is for the older rider to be able to convert to A2 and test on a smaller machine. The money involved in 125 motorcycles is astronomical.

Well on the flip side where I live you can apply for a permit and then go out an buy and ride a Hayabusa. So maybe some regulation is good

As a biker for over 50 years and new to RE a year ago, this video exactly sums up the brand and its reason for being. I first rode a Bullet in India in 1991 and rather liked it. It was perfect for the roads there. I’ve owned many bikes but the Classic 500 is a really good choice for someone of my age and well worth a look for new bikers of any age.

When I retired I sold my Triumph Tiger as I wasn't commuting any more and was literally days away from buying a Bonnie but I watched Stuarts video on his Interceptor purchase, also another well known bike blogger bought one and I thought what is going on here. I had a demo and the rest is history. I must say I have made my Interceptor mine with loads of mods and not had so much fun since my days as a young aircraft apprentice trying to make my BSA Bantam go faster! For me Royal Enfield have really made their mark with their 650 twins and I am even considering buying an Himalayan as a second bike!

The demise of the British motorcycle industry in the sixties is a lesson of resting on laurels and believing British was Best....they failed on every level...The Indian Government saved Royal Enfield from total obscurity...from bikes for their military to the mass market its been a 'rocky path', However, constant improvement, refined what needed to be refined. reintroducing names from the past has paid off with greater sales worldwide. Thirty years ago I hired a 350 bullet for two weeks to travel about India and Goa...( wife riding pillion, she had never been on a motorcycle in her life)..The bike never 'missed a beat' and was totally reliable....I don't know if you are aware, bikes sold in India could have a Saree guard fitted for obvious reasons.....Greetings from España where we expect a temperature of 31c today...

When you wrote “constant improvement” and “refined what needed to be refined” described exactly what the British motorcyle industry failed to do, inaction that directly caused their collapse. Rarely do we make or build anything that can not be improved. Once you accept that the next difficult bit is to upgrade your products and not piss off your existing customers by making their bikes obsolete or valueless.

This is so sadly true where especially the Japanese / Germans strive for constant improvement and give the customer what they want rather than the other way round. Companies even BIG companies need to adapt to market change or face possible demise.....enjoy the Spanish sun!

Even under Eicher motors, RE tried refining their engine only after 2015. Before that, there engine was filled with lot of vibrations. Now I own a Meteor 350 in India and there is no more vibrations in their 350cc engine anymore.

@@Trevor_Austin Absolutely,The failure to retool, adapt to emerging technology and customer base caused much of British industry to collapse...Post WW2 it was export, export, export to help get the country back on 'its feet'...in the sixties it all went wrong.

Collected my new interceptor 650 yesterday Stuart and just want to say thank you so much for your advice and excellent videos. I'm getting back on two wheels after thirty years in the car and can honestly say the ride home from the dealership yesterday was pure joy , looking forward to many years riding it around Dublin and many beautiful parts of Ireland ,take care and ride safe .

Eagerly awaiting my new RE Meteor 350….. after a very enjoyable test ride and having a very good inspection of the demonstrator I can honestly say the quality of the fit and finish is second to none. My previous two bikes where a Moto Guzzi V7 and before her a Ducati Scrambler, the Meteor is on a par if not better!! I’m happy the performance will be modest, but I’m not buying a RE for knee down A road blasting…. just lots of smiles and enjoyable exploring in comfort.

A good share .. thanks 👍. 'Engines are Old Technology' .. aka they're able to be maintained, where chosen, by the Owner or 'someone just down the road' and at reasonable cost. I'll vote for that .. every time! I wish that more manufacturers would adopt that long-abandoned mindset! Take care ..

I’ve been riding an Interceptor with the iconic chrome tank around Melbourne AUS for a year and I love it now more than ever. The only problem is people wanting to talk to you about it everywhere you go (I love it really 😉). Like most, I have other bikes that are enjoying a bit of a rest.

Nice one Stuart, I think most people don't realise just how huge the Indian market is, I've been lucky enough to visit India quite a few times and it comes as a bit of a shock to see literally thousands of bikes on the road, along with that there are hundreds of roadside mechanics sat cross legged maintaining them, and almost every shop no matter what type of business has a table out front with bottles of petrol for sale on them. Its a real eye opener...

The 650 twin Interceptor is THE machine I've been waiting for! It's got that 'very British upright' seating/stance. It's simple. It's not over-powered. From what I 'hear'...the gearbox is smooth as silk. No bells. No whistles. In other words...Perfect. Now...if I could only afford one (Yeah...I know they are pretty cheap to buy. But I'm on a very limited income and just can't afford one. Lordy, how I HATE to watch a dream slip away....).

One of the reasons I decided to buy an Interceptor was that I can do the maintenance myself, after warranty. Like I did with all motorcycles I owned. Simple straight forward technology easy to handle.

Maybe mentioned it before but I never heard of RE until 2018. Indian friend told me about them when we were looking at my Harley. I was immediately obsessed with the idea of having a motorcycle made in India that nobody here was riding. Finally got mine this year and I love it more than any motorcycle I’ve ever had.

I have only discovered your channel recently Stu, and I felt I must send a few lines to compliment you on your very professional videos, very enjoyable, and indeed your views on motorcycling would concur with my own. I’m approaching my 66 th., birthday in a few days and have been a motorcyclist for 50 years. I have just sold off my collection of 8 bikes, everything from a Honda CB175 to an BMW R1150GS, and was looking for just one motorcycle to ride into my retirement,! I figured the RE Interceptor 650 would be my kind of bike, returning to the simple pleasure of a 4 stroke twin where my love of motorcycling started all those years ago. Your videos of this model and your experience of it have convinced me of my choice. So thanks for your great work and greetings from Northern Ireland.

Hi Stuart, your video hit a chord with me, I've had my Interceptor for just over a year, great bike and value for money, I have friends who are keen motorcycle riders and one who works for another dealership (Suzuki), when he found out I had bought the Royal Enfield, he posted on Facebook, " Oh no Steve what have you done", to this day he has not called round to see it yet. Even his boss commented on what a cheap brand it was. I researched for 3 months or more before buying the Interceptor, some people seem to have an opinion about my bike without even coming to have a look. I find this very narrow minded. So well done, a great thought out video, as always.

Thanks to your wonderful videos, I'm buying an INT650 next month in Dallas TX. I used to ride 20 to 40,000 miles a year when younger and then life came along and riding got sidelined. I've finally reached a point where I need to ride again. I looked at the Yamaha XRS700, the Kawasaki Vulcan S, and a Sportster. Then I saw one of your videos. Then another, and another and so on. I live in North Carolina but grew up in Texas. So I'm flying there, buying the bike in Glitter and Dust, chrome if you ask me, riding it around Dallas and Ft. Worth for a few days visiting old friends and then letting the dealer perform the first service for me. Then I'm on the road back to NC. About 1400 miles! I'll be getting the touring seat at the dealer and modifying the bike to my liking after getting home. Thanks for the well made and very informative videos!

I purchased my second hand orange crush 2020 interceptor in May ,from Bowen Moto of Chatham ,Kent , local Enfield dealer only 250 miles on clock with heated grips fitted and first service done at a Great price . 200 miles to go on running in . Use it for work and pleasure, a great bike .

Nice touch, Triumph key fob in the shot.... 😁 All good points, I see them as positives, especially the self-service bits, after looking at the more modern style imports, and what it takes to make a simple valve clearance adjustment, I can get out my tools every 6,000 miles. 👍

In the past l owned a Royal Enfield Continental 1965 model I took care in running it in , as in handbook l had no problems apart from oil from breather caused by fault on valve. In 1965 it was a good quality motorcycle. and you didn't mind doing all the adjustment needed. Regards George Peace.

Only issue with my B5 500 single over the last 10 years or so was it eventually started fouling spark plugs on short trips, even with hotter plugs. This took a lot to diagnose, but in the end the issue was not the bike itself. Turned out the baffles in my aftermarket free flow exhaust had gradually deteriorated (making the bike tend to run lean)and the stock EFI had started over compensating and was dumping way too much fuel in the mix trying to make up for the worn out after market exhaust and fouling the plugs. A new stock standard exhaust instantly fixed the problem. Moral of this story - if you get too far away from a stock exhaust/air filter you will need to also upgrade the EFI computer or long term you may get issues. On the other hand, if you stick with stock or near stock components all is good.

When, three years ago, my new 500 Pegasus was delivered (1 mile on the clock) I remarked on it being very quiet and asked the delivery guy, who’d dealt with these machines a lot, where I could get aftermarket exhausts. “Don’t do that! You’ll bugger up all the mixtures and it may not run right.“ Further research suggested strongly that he was right. So the original stayed on and it has worked perfectly ever since 🙂

You could just add a piggy back overide fueler on it such as a techlusion. Then you can tune your FI for idle, mid and full throttle 😎.

Absolutely loving my classic ! And so do most people that see it !! Had one minor issue since owning it from March 21, the rectifier was faulty so not charging the battery, the dealership was great, completed the replacement during 1st service & because there was a delay in getting the part they knocked 60% off the cost of the service, rectifier done under warranty-now that’s great customer service ! I had the usual comments - “what ? It’s broken already ?!” Fortunately, I spend my working days explaining to people that mechanical & electrical items can develop issues/faults, so I say to the doubters have they never had problems with a washing machine, kettle, toaster etc.. conversation done 😅 Another great vid Stu 👍👌🏍

With Triumphs quality falling, the Gap between Enfield and Triumph has become barley notable. No gearbox problems on the interceptor for example. I would welcome you opinion on the Meteor Stuart

Adjustable tappets or a pushrod for me. Kudos to RE, HD and Moto Guzzi for still keeping simple for us. All fun, characterful bikes that stir the soul.

I've been riding the cast iron 350 and avl 500 model Bullets for the last 14 years. These bikes are easy to fix on the side of the road. Oil change is easy. All adjustment areas are easily accessible. It evokes nostalgia among people. Absolute pleasure to ride. Great video.

I would say avoid it, because I have a meteor and it only offers 20bhp. For me it's a lot, but for a Harley guy won't be much. If you want a RE wait for their 650cc cruiser which would launch at the end of this or start of next year.

Thanks for the video as always Stuart. As an owner of an INT650, Himalayan, Aermacchi and a stable of 60s/70s Hondas and Yamahas, I would agree the technology is old school. That being said, I appreciate that as until very recently, the nearest RE dealer was 2 hours away. Ironically, I was worried there was something wrong with my clutch/transmission on the Himalayan as the INT650 shifts so light and smooth. That is until last weekend when I bought a 2010 Ural after which I found myself thinking the Himalayan gear box was amazing. I guess it all relative. Lee

Well Stuart I just happened to pop into my local RE dealer and low and behold I purchase a new Meteor super 650 in green/black thanks again for all your invite into this mark it did help in my decision, but the bike is punching well above its price range. Look forward to your next blog👍

Thanks for posting your many vids, I've learned a lot from your experience with RE. It's great to know that Royal Enfield has come so far up and in a short time. It's impressive to make this much progress with really stylish, spirited, desirable bikes. And cool dealerships to boot. A bit of Midas touch on RE's part, very switched on.

I'm 100% with you on the 1-point font manuals, etc. And I am rather bugged at the valves needing adjustment so soon, but the Royal Enfield Classic 350 is a fantastically fun and inexpensive bike to own. Don't regret for one second buying them!!! Ride Safe 🙏🏼

Morning Stuart. I've had a classic 500 for 11yrs and absolutely love it, it's off road at the moment through no fault of it's own, and I'm on a Himalayan, which I don't enjoy half as much! Due to being a stingy Yorkshireman and buying cheap "silencers", mine earned the nickname " South Cave alarm clock".

I bought an orange crush because of this channel. I gotta say I love the bike! I have several Triumphs and that's what lead me here. my only complaints are "road side service" had me on hold forever on the side of the highway for over 30 minutes with a flat, until i finally gave up and called my own tow service. #2 is i would like to see an aluminum mag version with tubeless tires especially after complaint #1 happened. #3 is i would like a lowering kit for us shorter riders but the seating position is excellent. anyway thank you for bringing Royal Enfield to light. such an underrated and and overlooked bike here in the states.

2 points i would like to add to what has already been mentioned in the video 1. For buyers in india expect a 4 to 6 month waiting period after booking a RE bike ( especially if its an interceptor or gt ) 2. In india the free Road side assistance is only offered for a year . You would have the pay a small fee for the additional 2 years Further if buying this bike in india stick to the RE owned dealerships . Third party dealerships have virtually destroyed the reputation of this brand vide their poor after sales service .

Hi Stuart. Love your reports on the Classic 500. About 3 years ago, I saw one on the street here in Brisbane and decided that I needed to learn how to ride a motorbike and buy a Classic 500 - which I did. My one was identical to yours - grey chrome - and I loved it, as did everone who saw it. Unfortunately, most of my riding was up in the mountains and I found it very hard to find a gear that suited - 2nd too slow, 3rd not powerful enough such that my friends were getting a bit tired of waiting for me at the top of every hill. So I traded it in on an MT07 Tracer and no-one has to wait for me anymore. The Yamaha has all the power I need, it’s comfortable, nice quality etc, but has no ‘personality’. If I had somewhere to hide a second bike from my wife, I would buy another RE tomorrow. Thanks for your great reviews - I agree with everything you say.

Good words Stu - I only wish that Canadian R-E dealers had heard that word about lower cost model. We’re being gouged here and that is hurting sales. Too bad, I love to own one. The technical documentation issue is of course another concern which ought to be addressed. I do hope that Royal Enfield sorts that out because it is a rather silly problem in this day and age.

Hi, Unclle Stu, As an Aussie muso, I love your music. I love the Bluegrass and the Bossa Nova and especially the early music, (Spanish or French ?) featured on the Green Dragon story. I only quit bikes a couple of years ago but, l feel, rising 81, l have left my run at a 500 REsingle,a bit late. It makes mme feel sad but, l really enjoy watching your stories. Don't quit!!

I recently bought the Interceptor 650 as my very first bike. Although the weight and power took a day or two to get used to, I absolutely love everything about it.

I totally agree with your views, Stuart. After five years with a Classic Bullet and two years with an Interceptor, I am still very impressed. My only problem is getting older and the weight of the Interceptor is becoming a struggle. Health issues may not be helping with this.

I have had a B5 EFi for six years now, and overall am very happy with it. I would say that the quality control on it was less than stellar, with a drive chain needing replacement after less than 2000 miles and chrome that shows rust. My bike came with Avon SM2 tyres on 19" rims, and I can't get modern tyres to fit, on the rear wheel, anyway. A bit more power would be nice sometimes, along with a higher final gear ratio, but on the whole I see no point in changing. Ted Hunt

I ride mainly with friends who ride Harleys. Mine is a Kawasaki. So the banter can get almost brutal at times. But I have the upper edge, even if I´m outnumbered. This is because my bike never breaks down, never sheds any parts and does not need tinkering with. And hey, we live in Sweden. So when I have to fight dirty I only need to bring up cowboys, wannabe angels and such to get the upper hand. And talk about gullible people who believe american lifestyle commercials. After all these years they have learned the hard way not to engage in any word duels with me. Spent some decades convincing unwilling customers to buy our work stuff, these guys are a pushover. But we all love each other regardless. This comment was because you mentioned fanboys, for some reason people who ride Harleys get a bit like that. But we all share a love for motorcycles so in that sense we are all brothers. A little ribbing among siblings is okay, even healthy. Yet another great video, and a good topic to bring up.

Thank you for these excellent video. I am 57 years old and I live in Canada. I own several brands of motorcycles. Personally, I have no more problem with my Royal Enfiled Interceptor than with other brands. For my part, the price / quality ratio is fantastic. When asked about my satisfaction with my Interceptor, I always respond positively and recommend it.

For the longest time I perceived Royal Enfield brand as not for me. Here in India, I have seen The ‘Bullet’ since I could understand what a motorcycle was. However, believe me, India always had small motor motorcycles and scooters more popular at the time. E.g. My father always had a Vespa like scooter for his commute. And a 350cc and above was considered a big motor. And since fuel economy in motors is unbeatable and in price and running cost of a small 150cc something motorcycles/scooters were somehow a competition for RE products which were considered bulky and inefficient machines. Now is a different story, the economy is better, and people have many middleweight bikes and many brands to pick from. As of 2021, RE bikes are selling like hot cakes, have a long waiting period because of somewhat high demand. And when asked around, RE is considered a dependable brand, which makes reliable, easy to run, maintain machines, and has become a platform with immense potential to customise.

I really like the way you present your view. Most ppl will do run of the mill reviews but your way is unique. And the information presented covers most of the area about the bike. Indian manufacturing is now matching with that of the best in the world. Many automakers in India are giving good quality with a decent price. Good review.

Brilliant and useful information and points made! Im considering an RE or Triumph, kind of want a Triumph for the occasional pillion and touring aspect as my only bike but a 6th gear for distance on a 650 twin and such charm and value is a serious consideration also.

I am going through the process of getting a Meteor 350 to learn on. I was so impressed by the reviews and the way it felt just sitting on it, I decided to pull the trigger (the shop will not allow test rides to people on a learner permit).

@@twoeightythreez The local dealership has several of the Meteors and I have to agree 100% with the seating position being perfect. The heel-toe shifter is nice too. I am a bit worried about the low power-to-weight ratio. Then they release the new Classic 350s! More gorgeous bikes. Don't know if those will be coming to the USA but I think it is quite possible.

Your RIGHT ON! I'M 69 yrs old yooper Dan from Michigan and just got a Kawasaki z 400. But I want a bigger cc. I noticed on any bike no matter what size you wind up paying $2,000. for accessories. I know this for sure. But what i like about the Royal Einfield you get it all. So im planning on getting the tour 650 this spring. Gives me more money to pay for a date! Also I can haul her around.

Hi Stuart, thanks for providing the facts on Royal Enfield it's very refreshing.My son who is 31 bought a 500 Bullet 5 years ago and despite a few minor issues he absolutely loves it and certainly wouldn't swap it for an electronic crotch rocket. I am a real fan of Triumph but my last motorcycle purchase may well be a Royal Enfield Interceptor. I think that Royal Enfield over the next few years will give all the main stream brands the wake up call they need !

I've owned a RE meteor 350 for one month now. 180 miles on the odometer (would have been more but its been crazy hot here) Has been a perfect first bike for a new rider in his 50s, except for the very restrictive break in recommendations!!

I've actually done 1800km with my new interceptor and I'm absolutely satisfied, I've just fitted cheap exhaust cones and now sound's amazing! However I have got to say, that the exhaust crome quality is not enough, and you will need to be polishing and cleaning it very often if you don't want the rust dots to grow up, also the seat is not comfortable for touring, but enough to commute.
