This interactive seminar will introduce the concept of dis-metacognition as a way of formulating discussion, debate and theories rooted on one of main principles that underpins the Joy of Not Knowing philosophy of education, which states that ‘the best learning happens when we don’t realise that we are learning’.
The seminar will introduce a range of models, practical ideas and student’s work that show how individuals can acquire a deep love of learning and an intrinsic motivation that enables them to thrive at all stages of life and with all of life’s challenges.
The seminar will discuss how we can all develop a positive mindset to situations in which we feel uncertain, where we are not sure of the answer, where we feel confused in the knowledge that these situations are prerequisites to being able to make progress as learners and as individuals.
The Seminar will discuss the theory that in order to be a successful lifelong learner and to be able to contribute successfully to society, adding cultural capital throughout our lives, individuals need to make the transition from knowledge to understanding and then to wisdom and must develop the dispositions that makes us feel ‘comfortable with being uncomfortable’.
The seminar will enable all participants to adapt each of the ideas presented to the differing contexts in which we all operate and to all stages of life and education.
