@evandickinson3254 context could be that if he doesn't react the Mongols may bypass him or place themselves on an even better position. He either have to catch them where he thinks he will be less disadvantaged or wait for them to get what they wants and start the fight on their own accord.

How about Battle of Marj As Saffah? The battle famous being so catastrophic to Mongols, it is said the ruling Khan was furious enough that he bleed his nose due to anger.

@@VoidOfDarkness9 You are right. One of interesting fact about the battle is it challenged the idea that Mongols always have edge due to their multiple mounts per soldier, to enhance mobility. In the arid climate of MENA region, lots of horses would result in attrition and that's just perfect for Bedouin ally of Mamluk lying in ambush, near seemingly harmless oasis.

@@cool06alt One of the biggest reasons actually, due to which foreign invasions failed to penetrate inside middle east. Hattin is just another example of this same phenomenon of water scarcity

my city I am so glad to hear its name here .....homs in the Mongol era witnessed 3 battles one peaceful entry of the Mongol ...and one funny story of repelling the Mongols in which the people spread news of a plague causing everyone to go crazy ...the Mongol army didn't believe that but at arrival they found people riding donkeys backwards and acting crazy and thus the soldiers refused to come close ...that incident made homs known as the city of the crazy
