In our 2015 interview with lead singer Stephan Jenkins, he described this song as "a noir about a guy who jumped off a bridge and killed himself because he was gay," adding, "It was really about bullying."
Netflix just added Yes man and I re watched it for the first time since it came out on theaters. Made me remember how much I love this song, fucking legendary. Keep you heads up kiddos ✊🏽
The lead singer of this band is still alive... Stephan Jenkins has said that the song came from a story 3EB's manager told them about a guy that was a friend of his in highschool who was gay. Being gay wasn't accepted where he lived and the guy ended up committing suicide because of it. The song is also about difficult experiences Stephan went through during his childhood.
I busk often (performing in public for tips, in my case, acoustic guitar and singing), and I've had this song requested literally a dozen times in a night, three of which were from the same person (I probably spent a good ten minutes that night explaining to the guy that I didn't know the song), so I think it's about time I learn this.
@@roebucksummers8614 I learned it, only to discover that none of the people requesting it knew or cared about anything after the intro-chorus. It’s still fun to belt, though.
Love this song... Jim Carrey has messed it up for me, I always hold the notes to long when I sing it, lol. I feel like he should've actually recorded a cover though!
Don't hate the movie. As a fan you should be happy that there are people actually becoming fans of Third Eye Blind. I know I have heard people do songs by artists I've never heard before and it made me want to look at all the music that artist has done. So, stop knocking the fans of Yes, Man. You should be jumping for joy that Third Eye Blind has more fans because of that movie.
Stephan wqas one of the best things to happen to the 90's, he was truly unique in his style and lyricsm. He deserves our respect regardless off what he songs like live. If he thought like you maybe "3eb" and "blue" albums, would never have been written. And i can't even begin to think how unfortunate it would be if he never graced the music industry. Cheers.
Jim is a great actor. Jut when he sings it- it is to happy to represent the meaning of this song. To stop someone from committing suicide would not be pleasurable.
It's popular because it was playing on the radio all the time when it was released and still is played... This song wouldn't have even been in that movie if 3eb hadn't made it what it is.
That high vocal note is so clean and good… I’m assuming Stephen has a lot of different singing qualities to his vocals I’m not sure he’s showcased before in songs (in studio form).
almost... i love this type of music, and play guitar so i like learnign these songs.. but ur right i didnt no that band until i saw Yes Man. this song is great.
All I have to say is, for how many drugs he's probably on and done, he can sing this good in his own respect. Stop hatin', and learn to appreciate music. I'd love to see anyone try to do what he does as well as he does and get as much appreciation.
I almost feel wierd commenting about this. This is a great song, however Jim Carrie's "cover" in Yes Man makes me sing and shed a tear EVERY TIME I see it.
The Sessions@AOL overlay and bleached Guy Fieri style hair gives this video an overall vintage Web 1.0 sheen...someone literally probably downloaded this on the Pirate Bay on a Windows XP, later wrote it to DVD along with 50 other music, "videos," (because it was shot on actual video) which probably took hours to finish and then a few years later uploaded it to RU-vid (also taking hours to finish because their internet speed was probably around 1MBps in 2009).
@WiFeSLaYer - Right on! It is a sad state of affairs when most people relate a great song to some movie, commercial or TV show. I grew up in the 90's too and I know this music means more than that. I would bet that this song has saved some lives and that is incredible! Suicide should not be taken lightly, and far too many people do. Prayers and thoughts go out to everyone who has been effected by depression and is, or has, thought of suicide. Especially our military folks, come home alive please!
Yes! When I heard it the first time that's exactly what it reminded me of. It's really the same 'theme' I guess, and they sound pretty similar on an acoustic guitar as well.
Tony! He’s going to make that acoustic play that solo damnit! That guy is a phenomenal guitar player, most people don’t know that he can seriously shred.
This song still brings tears to my eyes. When someone is having a tough time in life and talks suicide, do just more than tell them I Will Understand. There are 1-800 numbers. On the web there are counseling groups. ● sorry Ralfie . I failed you. ● ● ● ●
i don't know why you got 2 thumbs down but you're exactly correct on your judgements... when they performed Jumper on the Letterman show, They were awful but i saw them back in August when they came to Seattle, and they have improved their live performances.
