Still working on getting our on farm dairy processing plant operational. We just installed our thirty gallon vat pasteurizer and tested it! It worked great and are very excited about using it soon to pasteurize our dairy products! We also cover some basic information about how vat pasteurizing differs from other types such as ultra pasteurizing.

Very interesting. This is a unit that should work well for your dairy. Easy to use and understand. Waiting patiently for the first bottle of milk to come off the line. Direct sales from the farmer to the consumer equals the real value of your products. Great video guys, keep em coming!!

It is pretty nice. I’ve vat pasteurized on older vats where you have to manually throttle the steam valves to maintain the temperature. It’s very labor intensive and requires a lot of attention from the operator. Ours is all programmable, just set it and check it occasionally. It’s “hands off” enough that you can actually go do other things whilst it’s heating. Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!

Very Interesting , I'm learning more about the Dairy Business as we go along. Growing up we had two local Dairies bottling milk and selling it at their location. It was very nice for the local folks. Good video Thanks 🇺🇸
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 4 года назад
Glad you enjoyed the video! I remember when locally there we a couple different milk processors, which meant that dairy farmers had different choices, and there was some competition which made prices for farmers better. Sadly it’s not like that anymore, and most dairy farmers are only left with one choice, if any at all.

Glad we can help. Must be hard watching to cows go. I think dairy cows are different than any other livestock because dairy farmers have such close contact with their cows daily. And even though we know the how the eventual life cycle for a cow will end, we still build relationships with them.

I don’t drink milk for a myriad of reasons. I have had both raw and pasteurized. I see the benefit for both and I think there is room in the world and markets for both. Every dairy carefully chooses their methods and I respect you both for all the hard work and research you have done! Your customers will appreciate it! I can’t wait to buy the yogurt and ice cream! 🐮 🍨 My kids want you to make banana flavored milk too!

We drink our own milk now. For us, it will be a matter of convenience. Do we have pasteurized, bottled milk in the cooler and we can just grab one? If not, we’ll just grab some raw milk out of the bulk tank. Either way, makes no difference to us. As a farm, we should be proud to consume what we produce.

That’s why we like vat pasteurizing. It’s such a low temp, that it doesn’t destroy the milk like the stuff you buy in stores. It’s milk that still tastes like milk! Around us, we do have a lot of licensed dairies that sell raw milk, so we also don’t want to impose on their market. Thanks for watching!

I have to agree that UHT milk is nasty, but worse still is Sterilized Milk. My Grandmother didn't have a fridge and used sterilized milk. Like everybody else's milk at the time it [doorstep delivery milk] came in glass bottles, but while normal pasteurized milk had an aluminium foil cap, sterilized milk had a "crown cork cap", the same type of cap you find on beer bottles and which has to be removed with a bottle opener. If you want the definition of nasty, sterilized milk is the essence of it [and it is still available to buy]!

I’m in the process of building a micro dairy ultimate goal is milking 6 cows. For now 3 is where we are at. If you were to use a container how would you lay it out. Where did you get your 30 gallon pasteurizer?
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 2 года назад
The pasteurizer is from Northwestern Tool out of Ohio. Container like a shipping container? I’d lay it out the same as my barn. It’d be narrower (the dairy is 12’ wide). Parlor in the back, then the milkhouse, then the processing room, and then office/storage in the front. I imagine a raised parlor would be difficult to build in a container, so I’d go with a flat parlor.

greetings looking at this one as well! had a question how do you control the temps? the range is 90-190F correct? if I only wanted 110F how do I go about that? didnt really see any controls on this for temps thanks! (digital for setting setpoint parameters)
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 4 года назад
The temperature is set on the chart recorder itself, as it is what controls the jacket heating element and the air space heater. I’ll admit, the controls are a little “clunky” to use, but not too bad. After doing it a few times, it starts to make more sense. I don’t know the limitations of the set points, as we only program it for the required pasteurizing temperatures depending on the product, and it covers all of those temperatures (145f for regular fluid milk, 150f for chocolate milk, and 155f for eggnog. Airspace is 5f over pasteurizing temp.) Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

does this pasteurizer heat up with the use of a boiler system? thanks in advance.
@vnthomas16
@vnthomas16 3 года назад
Hello there! The pasteurizer does not require a separate boiler. It is a self-contained unit, with a heating element similar to that of a hot water heater to heat the water in the jacket. Ours requires a 30 amp, 220 volt dedicated circuit. We also need a 20 amp, 110 volt receptacle for the agitator. This isn’t a dedicated circuit, just part of the convenience receptacles for the dairy. Thanks for watching!
