Yes it’s my weekend toy but smg2 is F1 tech and you just have to learn it’s a manual box with no clutch pedal. Not lightning but no missed shifts and two hands on the wheel. I use the stick in town and paddles when hustling

11:15 You feel those gears because it is a manual gearbox. Sequential MANUAL gearbox. If you want to gentle change gears you have to let go of gas a bit during every gear change. Just a bit. Try that trick In a 100% manual. Change gears and don't let go of the gas. The gas pedal is pushed down all the time and you're changing gears in manual. I dare you to do that. And then you'll see what is an SMG gearbox.

if you couldnt drift this car stock you cant drive lol and he suspention is a bit soft stock but you can kick the back end out with ease

Nice brief review! In general, not towards you, I do not understand the hate on SMG. It is a different kind of animal that you need to adapt for; which is exactly what you say. I do change gears mid drift in my 02 m3 SMG without any issues. And daily my car in traffic as well. Yes it has some shortcomings in hot weather stop and go traffic. If a manuel is 8/10 then SMG for me is 7/10. Absolutely love it, it adds a nice drama and another layer of mastery you need to work on. It has a character of its own and works with you particularly when you are 100% on it. It would be pointless to argue it is better than a manuel, but not far behind imho.

I know I'm in the minority but I actually really like BMW SMG's. They're expensive to maintain, unreliable, unpredictable, and uncomfortable. However, they're SO much better than the traditional torque converter automatics of the period. The SMG just adds to the character of the car with those brutal shifts that kick you in the spine, and when pushed hard, it shifts surprisingly quick. I'd still take a manual over an SMG, but I'll take an SMG over a traditional auto 10 times out of 10.

BMW is a terrible corporate murder factory. Takata is the biggest scandal to every hit the auto industry. BMW replaced my e46 323ci’s defective Takata airbag with the same defective part in 2017! Now Dec 1 2021 my vehicle still has a defective Takata airbag and BMW has been sending me threatening pamphlets telling me that Takata airbags have killed people I get a pamphlet every week. I spoke with their consumer department. So unprofessional…. I am not allowing them to repair the vehicle I want the vehicle replaced with a comparable vehicle that has not been tainted by Takata scandal. Takata became Joy Sun company they made the current revised airbag that BMW wants me to have installed at the dealer. Takata is in operation to this day under a name change and power shift internally. I have lost my faith in BMW they are delirious to think this BEV is the first luxury EV. BMW is a corporate Murder House in my opinion forcing people families who died from Takata Scandal to sign NDA (non disclosure agreements) and also offering these families huge payouts for their silence. They would rather keep a liability like my vehicle on the road than doing the right thing in replacing it. I am mentioning this here because I would like to bring awareness to my plight regarding BMW North America. Help me brother. I haven’t been able to have passenger in my car in a long time because it’s the passenger side airbag that’s affected. Take care! Nicholas.

I had a coupe and convertible e46 m3 at some point in my life lol. If I could get another one I would. I now have an e92 m3. Very enjoyable car and so well balanced. The v8 is just to die for. Only thing that sucks is the fuel economy vs the inline. I don’t think I’ll ever sell my e92. It’s so hard to replace these vehicles once you get rid of them

SMG's are the way to go for the 46 M3's, they add more character to the car of its time. I have one and I wouldn't consider getting a manual or converting it to anything. It is defiantly worth installing the CSL software and rev-matching software for the gearbox in order to enjoy the gearbox 100x more

I have a 03 SMG and love it. On the 03 and up cars you can program in track mode and you can have dsc with a little wheel spin, and reflash the SMG computer with the CSL map and it transforms the SMG it shifts faster rev matching down shifts. If you have a SMG I recommend you reflash with CSL tune it will work on all years of e46 and if you have the MK60 dsc (if there’s abs stuff behind the right front wheel it’s not compatible) 03 and up have the MK60 and you can download all the BMW software for free you need a laptop and a $20 obd2 k d can cable you can get on Amazon just google e46 CSL SMG tune and you will find write ups telling you exactly what to do and the same with MK60 track mode. When you get track mode programmed the little M on the cluster you have always wondered what it was for it’s the track mode indicator. You activate it using the dsc button so it’s nothing more than reprogramming. And look up MSS52 / MSS54 BINARY MODIFICATION TOOL. It’s like $25 for a 1 car license but you can do a lot to the car including the CSL tune. It does it by just checking a box. Great video and a beautiful example of the e46 M3.
