We did some dragracing on the public roads in the late 70s with all kinda bikes. H1, H2, daytona specials, Z650, z1000, gs 850e, cbx 1100, etc. We all wanted to have the fastest bike. Till 1 day a guy we didn’t know came over with a xs 1100. He made a mess out of all of us…ha. What fun we had.!!!!

Man I used to have a black 79 one of those, in the late 90s and early 2000s. Loved that bike.

Glorious bike. I had an XS1100F with Peter Allen 4-into-1, and a Vetter fairing. Would go 200 klicks all day every day two-up. Miss it. 😢

I had a79 in Blue. One of the best bikes I’ve ever had. Put 80k trouble free miles on mine equipped with Vetter Windjammer, fairing, bags , and trunk. Btw, there should be a kickstarter arm under the right side cover in case of emergencies.

I have an XS1100 still to this day that I bought new in '78 from Big Jim's Yamaha in Little Rock, Arkansas. The bike in the video is missing the rear turn signals, and the mufflers are not original. A common problem with the XS1100s was that the stock mufflers would rot/rust out very quickly, and people would replace them with better aftermarket pieces back in the day. My bike has a set of chrome Alphabet 4-into-two-into-one headers which looks (and sounds) very _very_ cool! 🙂 Edit: The front brake rotor on the right side of this bike is slotted, so it's not original. The rotor on the left side is _not_ slotted and appears to be original. A common problem with these bikes was a 'wallow' at speeds over 90 MPH while turning left or right. I solved that problem by adding a Telefix fork brace and using a higher viscosity fork oil.

Nice to hear from someone who really knows these bikes.. thxs for sharing .👍

@@mikanakayama-ss5co You're very welcome! I made a mistake about that Alphabet exhaust system though. It's _not_ a 4-into-two-into-one system! The pipes from cylinders 1 and 4 are brought together into a single collector and exit into a muffler on the LEFT side of the motorcycle where the original muffler was. The pipes from cylinders 2 and 3 are brought together into a single collector and exit into a muffler on the RIGHT side of the motorcycle where the original muffler was. The primary exhaust pipes have to 'crisscross' each other in front of the engine to allow for this, and it looks _very_ cool! I bought the Alphabet system because I thought the bike would look 'funny' if it was missing a muffler on one side like it would with a Kerker 4-into-1 system. Did you know that the XS1100 was the _first_ motorcycle to have an electronic CDI ignition (no points)? It was also the first to have a _vacuum advance_ ignition system (like an automobile)! The vacuum advance is what allowed it to make all that power and STILL get decent gas mileage on the freeway!
