The iconography on the boards may be valuable. You can put the boards in a clean plastic garbage bin with a tight-fitting lid. Place charcoal briquettes in the bottom and put a rack over it, stack the wooden pieces up, and close it up for about two weeks. The charcoal will absorb the mold and then you can take them outside and gently brush the surfaces with a soft brush.
I get so excited when there are art supplies in a unit. I collect and use vintage art supplies and paper. Wish we could have seen the brand name of the paints and watercolors...... Koh-I-Noor is a good brand. The pens will sell easily. If I lived near you I'd buy all those supplies!!!! You got a treasure of a unit! Congrats!!!!!
Oh, I love the Ornament box with beautiful artful pieces and the art supplies. 💖 So many treasures were discovered. I hope you can recover some of that porcelain. Such nicely packed household goods. And it just kept on going. Well done on this storage unit. Woohoo❣️👍😍
Without seeing it close up the furniture may have been salvageable if it was just surface grime. We pick up pieces like this all the time from the reseller areas in our local waste transfer sites. We just vacuum off all surfaces inside and out, then a going over with a damp cloth with a bit of washing up liquid on it will soon remove and mould or mouse pee or fly poop. Then we what we do if the furniture is pre 1980s which means it is made from traditional materials like solid wood or plywood and finished with a lacquer or varnish is to clean it deeper with a three part cocktail that brings life and shine back to the wood. Get yourself an empty and clean jam jar with a lid, pour into the jar equal measures of boiled linseed oil, white spirit and methylated spirits, put the lid back on tight and give the jar a shake to mix the contents then remove lid and apply the cocktail to a clean, soft rag (old tees are ideal) and generously wipe the surface of the furniture with it, shake the jar before each application as the contents will separate. When you have finished cleaning the item with this brew leave it to dry for 10-20 mins, then buff the treated surfaces with another clean, soft rag and the furniture will look as good as new!
Art supplies a score for journal making and paper crafting in general. I hope you keep for your own creativity. Hundreds in money saved. Priceless in expression.
Yep and along with the Romanian currency it would suggest a very strong Eastern European link to the unit. It’d be interesting to learn the history of who had the unit tbh.
Renee I had a $20 unit I got last month as well. Some mice there because they had stored food. Some very used furniture and lots of half open cardboard boxes scattered around. 10x10 unit and based on ' looks '.. why it sold for $20. Not looking very appealing. Had some totes or boxes with brand new unopened small appliances, bedding and various boxes of youth sized New Uggs. as well as other resellables. Uggs are good. But the kicker at the end was something that did NOT belong there based on how unit was stored and its contents. Some black plastic bags with clothing/coats on hangers. One had a label but no identifier. The company (was sold to SF Based Emporium stores-now closed as well ) made clothing and based on label date appears to be 1960's Vintage... Black Mink Coat. The other coat which had a content label said Russian Black Rabbit Fur. Did NOT expect to find that in a trashy $20 unit. "You never KNOW what you are going to find "
Yay Renee. This really was a great Unit. I say you really got your money back from this Unit Sweet Heart. God Bless you Renee. HUGS 🤗❤️. Mari'a. 🤗❤️🤗❤️🤗👍👍👍👍💕💕💕🍂🍁🍂🍁
This was a great unit. You made your money back just in the art supplies alone. That paint is still good. I would jump for joy if I found those. Thanks for sharing 🎉❤
I hope your dump does what ours does. They take any reusable furniture and they have a store right next door to it where they sell all reuseable things. I have gotten many a resellable treasure there and listed it and sold it so it went on to have a good new life. One day ONE DAY!!! I will take video of this and start a channel. I am LOVING this storage unit and am super excited for you.
That gray mens Ralph Lauren blazer looked like it was a purple label. The purple label is top notch and the most expensive. Usually made in Italy and worth good money.
Renee, this unit was a gold mine !! Im glad it turned out to be a good one and you will be able to help pay for your trip to Yellowstone !! Congrats !!🤗♥️
The big painting is a mass-produced decor painting, absolutely typical in all respects. Probably from a furniture store in the 60s - if you bought a sofa, they would ask if you would like a nice painting to hang over it.
@@vinyl1Earthlink I believe you are correct. As you know, just because it is on canvas, it doesn’t make it an original. It is simply a print on canvas.
It looks like this person took great care in their possessions What a treat not to have alot of garbage to tend with You scored big time with this one 💚💜💖🇨🇦🦩 Stay Happy 💫✨🌟✨
I'm baaack! The Paris painting is nice...needs a simpler, classic frame...that one is overpowering...looks 60s. Better than a Black Widow! The owner must have been an artist, and kept herself beautiful! Interesting purchase! Mickey did what nature calls us all to do-do!
While the furniture is a disappointment all the very resellable items make it more than a bargain. Great score Renee. I'd love to hear the final tally on this. I bet you break 4 figures in profit. Great follow up on the first video too. Your usually stellar content.
It will be a little bit before I can provide an idea of how much profit came from the unit. I've only gone through the health & beauty tote so far, working on the linens next!
@@PaperandMoose I had an antique booth before cancer hit me. I made 3 storage unit deals.. I would clear them out for free as long as there was vintage and antiques in them. I once got one unit filled with 80s and 90s duck decor. Like the cheesy blue bow ducks. Omg. 😂
If I were going to guess, I would say the storage unit belonged to a Romanian woman. Why: one of the coins found, iconography looks similar. She lived through communism and learned to value her belongings, having had to live with scarcity. Also, the cookbooks were dear to her because of her mother's land food, which she treasured and probably prepared herself.
I strongly support the theory that the renter of the storage unit was a lady from Romania. The icons are not very old, but were obviously made using the traditional painting technique (as can be seen in the damaged areas): Egg tempera on stucco, background gilded, probably on a red bolus ground. Icons are the sacred images of the Eastern Church; the lady was probably of the Orthodox faith. A somewhat different and very interesting storage unit. Congratulations again, Renée! Gabriele - Berlin
@@Gabriele-sv9qg Absolutely agreed. I also think that these icons are "newerish", because they don´t have much patina or something that we call "Krakelee". But: who am I to give a decent expertise on icons ! Gute Einschätzung, Gabriele !
The storage unit didn't have a document with the renters's name, but the content provides some clues. Work for Sherlock Holmes 🕵🏻. The museum where I worked also had a collection of icons. I wasn't responsible for it, but I know some of the basics.
Wow! I am so impressed with this unit. $20 is such a great buy. This one is a winner. So happy for you. I may want some of those cologne's. Really enjoyed it as always. You are one of the best!!
I got a feeling that storage unit is the leftovers from someone’s estate . The heirs made sure to destroy or keep all paperwork for the estate lawyers and will reading . Notice there wasn’t any gold or silver jewelry ? Or even vintage costume jewelry ?
So many new high ticket tagged items, was it her business, shop lifted, she sure loved purses🫢 a great storage unit, that will take time to look through.
Cred ca proprietarul a fost din Romania, Europa de Est. Cartea de bucate a Sandei Marin este cartea dupa care au gatit multe generatii de tinere gospodine. Love from Romania ! ❤
Is it work ? For sure, that stuff is heavy ! Is it stinky ? Yup, mice smell bad, and leave there droppings everywhere ! At the end of the day, you hope for units that will pay for their price, and make it worth your while. For me, it's like my hobby , metal detecting. You dig a lot of trash ( in my case, cans and pull tabs ), to find the good stuff ( in my case, rings and cool old stuff ). That was a really well cared for bunch of totes, I bet it turned out great !
I love your channel!!! This unit was amazing, and I think you are going to make a lot more profit than you realize. Old enough to be your grandma and I see some things you will be surprised at when you look them up. lol Congratulations Renee💜
I really enjoy your videos. You inspire me and dazzle me with your smile. I hope you find more good stuff and keep on posting videos, so I can watch during my recovering from post COVID illness here in the Netherlands.
I love all your content Renee, especially these storage units. I don't know if you've done it and I haven't caught it, but it would be great now and then to put a video together as a compiled follow-up, where you show a few seconds of a unit to remind us which one it was then go over highlights of what came out of it and total profit from it. I can't be the only one who'd enjoy those from time to time. Great units like this leave me thinking "I bet this unit ends up bringing in $1000 when it's said and done". Thank you for another good one!
Probably still some pleasant surprises in there..good solid unit. Shame about the furniture- makes me wonder if they moved with an open truck and got caught in the rain.
The Koh-i-Noor set of pens (15:29 minutes) are very expensive and can cost around $270 Canadian (about $200 USD). You've found some great art supplies and the frame alone on the Paris painting is worth a lot. You hit a jackpot winner with your $20 unit. Great job!
Those paintings on wood are called studies, they are the rough work to larger completed studio-size paintings like the big painting of Paris you found, should seriously consider getting them evaluated by an Expert, I would recommend Dr. Lori Verdanmae it is possible each one could be worth over 5 grand a piece if they are not reproductions which I don't think they are.
It may have been hard work, but it looks like you have hit a mini jackpot! (Poor Taco, between your furniture and the sofas and matresses from his unit he must be feeling it! Hopefully you bought him an iced coffee or something?) I always wonder about the people who store away religious items. Have they lost their faith or are they things that are unwanted inheritance. (I think I would be worried the Big Guy was watching what I was doing and raising his eyebrow and shaking his head at my actions... ) Actually those pieces of religious art looked really valuable. I'm not an expert or anything, but they looked legitimately old and worth researching. They at least need to find a home that would appreciate them. Looks like you are going to have to put up your prices for some of the items from this haul! Well done for taking the risk, Renee!🤘
